KISS UR FACE FOREVER (Patreon)

Hello to the SDC! My sweet little flower babies - the time has come for a new *official* Orla release :’) welcome to the world this new baby girl: 🌺 Kiss Ur Face Forever 🌺 you can listen here and watch the karaoke style lyric video here ! also delighted to let you know (though some of u guessed) that it features in season 2 of HEARTSTOPPER out on Netflix today! It's a smaller moment than my song got it season 1 (that was SO lucky) but still an amazing thing nonetheless:)
Ok - let me paint a picture of how the track came together - I wrote this song initially in London with Tom and my best friend Lauren Aquilina. I cannot understate the joy writing with my friends brings to my life - it felt so good that day to be so understood, both musically and as a person without having to explain or overthink any of it. I loved the intensity of this song - those drums got my heart rate up right away and felt like the perfect backdrop for the twisted love song I was so desperate to write.
So phase 1 - the writing - was complete; it felt almost effortless. Phase 2 - the recording - would commence a few weeks later down at Middle Farm studios, home to Pete Miles & the place I recorded my smash hit debut album WOMAN ON THE INTERNET. Pete has been a huge part of my musical journey the last few years (Pete produced the FIZZ album) and had engineered on WOTI but never until this point stepped up on production duties on my project. Having built such a great synergy up with Pete it felt like the right time to welcome him aboard the prod team with Tom and I.
Soon into the recording process for this song (and more to come) we established some nicknames; Analogue Pete & Digital Tom. This is dismissive of course and doesn’t ofc paint a true picture of their skillset - but in broad strokes terms Pete loves the old school (recording to tape, outboard gear.. production that takes place outside of the computer) and Tom is a true whiz at programming, synths; working digitally & a bit more ‘in the box’. I loved having the balance of worlds across this recording session - I think we learned a lot from eachother and our different approaches to producing music and found a middle ground with this track that landed very much in Orla-world, with a fresh energy.. something familiar, something new.
We tracked the main elements of the song (drums, guitars, bass, synths) all at once - that felt important. Once we built the skeleton of the song we could see what extra sprinklings were needed - my friends Grace and Soren joined me for BVs (and Lauren’s original BV stem from the demo is in there in the outro, too) - a true moment of GIRL POWER. I tracked my lead vocal and the puzzle was complete - some back and forth & prod finessing happened in the weeks after Middle Farm before sending it to our friend Geoff Swan to mix.
My favourite things about this song:
- The DRUMS !
- How long the verses stay on one chord. I think it builds up tension rly well!
- “let’s play a game of emotional monopoly in the name of monogamy”. Ok. Chef’s kiss
- The breakdown and scream at the end :o this is going to be SO fun to do live omg
- The BVs in the verse (the timing is so weird - I love)
- Sooo many of the guitar riffs. I really went to town lol
And that’s it! Expect a post from me this week with instructions of exactly how you can help me further the song along and reach the masses - but for now, it’s yours! Listen loud, live with it and let me know what you think :)❤️🔥
And on a final note - we have a new FIZZ song out today too! BIG WEEK ! I think it’s a perfect sister song to Kiss - it’s called ‘As Good As It Gets’ and it’s Gret’s lead moment on the record. It’s similarly got a gnarly yell in it but with a different tone - it’s a song about the moment where you wake up and realise you deserve more than you’ve been given. Hell yes. Plz go listen :)
SDC - I love you dearly. Thank you for embracing this song! You mean the world to me!
