Asuka performing a stress test on the new MPE units under NEPV supervision.

Here's my story with Evangelion: one of the first animes I ever watched. Only watched the first season (24 episodes) and went into it expecting big robots going boom boom against weird monsters - for context, I never actually watched any anime mecha anime so far.

Then Shinji started crying, his dad was kinda bad. He gets into the big robot, cries a little more and punches the monster. BOOOM. His aunt is kinda hot but also an alcoholic. Then he starts piloting mecha. Then there's that gay kiss somewhere in the middle. Then... Hmmm... There was some lore bits here an there, but I don't remember much. A lot of people die to a giant diamond. I think Rei is Shinji's mother? The last episode doesn't make any sense unless you go into youtube and watch 1 hour and half video essay explaining it.

What I wanted to say was: Evangelion is so kino 👏👏👏 10/10 genre defining.

And that was my Evangelion review!

Evangelion rocks! Sound effects, monster designs, mech ui, superb stuff. I don’t really understand it all either, but I do like the cheesy good job tv series ending compared to the judeochristian apocalypse of the movie. Might’ve been my first anime similarly, that or berserk (Krysta design wise reminds me of pre-eclipse Casca, minus everything going on with trauma stuff lol). But uh in reference to the post, didn’t know this type of scene was called blowbang, but it fits… (and I caught that 420 ref too)

Any version of Evangelion does get kind of convoluted and weird in the end, but they're still fun series to watch :-)
