Personally, I'd just make a 6" (that's 15cm to you lousy Brits!) shelf with a couple of neodymium magnets embedded in it. It could sit along the front edge of the space, and the magnets would stick it to the front steel. See, only room for two to sit there and 99% of the time, you know it will be one. You. It would hold securely and have a slightly larger surface area, and all the space the table currently takes would be freed with NO legs and no space taken on the floor. Sorry. My inner engineer brainstorming. Wish I could post images, then I'd do you a drawing. :D

Not sure how long ago this was posted or if you have solved the problem. Initially I though fold it down (so it doesn't get in the way of the view forward or stop light coming in. But I don't think it would fit. My solution would be to leave the narrow legs (nearer the stern of the boat) attached to the cross members and hinge the cross member at the top where it meets the table top. This would give greater stability when the top is lowered, otherwise the legs would splay under weight . Leave the wider legs (nearer the bow) where they are but hinge them and remove the bottom cross members running from the (now) fixed legs to the (now) hinged legs. Perhaps a moot point though as it is so long ago!

As if someone as able to procrastinate as me would ever have actually got round to doing the table! No, it's still exactly as it was. Really must do it sometime... Great suggestions by the way, thank you!
