In this month's post, we take a look at an example of NPC Dialogue trees. Dialogue trees allow us to create branching story lines that are dependent on your questions and answers to the NPCs you dialogue with. Some dialogues will be influential in unlocking certain things in the game. With Dialogue Trees, we have the option to impose conditions for getting certain dialogue options to show, and conditions for NPC dialogue response which, if all conditions are met, will trigger an event that may or may not be noticeable at first.

Lore Posts from the Lore Writer's Blog are not just part of Patreon, but will also be a part of the lore in Day of Dragons. What is the "Day" of Dragons? Has it happened in the past? Is it today? Is it an event in the future? The day a dragon is born? Was it a war? Was it a change in the world of Jrakhon? In the Lore-writer's blog, we will discover the "day" meaning in time. For now, let's talk more about Dialogue Trees.

In DOD, there will be 2 types of NPCs, story and combat. For the sake of simplicity, we'll call the story NPC's, NPC's, and the combat NPC's, "AI." The main difference is that Story NPCs can be talked to,.. if you meet the requirements. Some NPC's will only speak to their own kind, some will only speak to you if you've spoken to someone else first and was "sent" by that other NPC to them. Some NPC's, I guess this would be a 3rd type? may also contain AI, and either follow you or attack you after speaking to them.

In DoD Genesis, we will have some minor lore NPC's in the game, but the deep story NPC's will come in later updates. As updates come out, players will want to explore the world to find them and continue their venture into the lore of Jrakhon. In time, we plan to have a very cool and dynamic story, strung together in a large web of interconnected dialogues that give players who like lore, a chance to delve very deep into the lore of Jrakhon by seeking out hidden and reclusive story NPC's, often ancients from a bygone era, that for the most part, just want to be left alone...

Awkward experiments with dialogue, check. Me cringing slightly as I read the PC dialogue options, double check.
