Lore-writer's Blog - Leviathans Part 2 (Patreon)

In part 1 of the Leviathans blog post, we had a word puzzle regarding Leviathans. Congratulations to Adam Williams on solving it first. For those wondering, here is the puzzle.

The first Leviathan creature we will be introducing to Day of Dragons is the [redacted] and it is a HYDRA species with THREE  HEADS that each have their own element, one being Fire, one Frost, and one  Lightning. Each HEAD is controlled by a different PLAYER  so it  requires all THREE HEADS to function. Leviathans are post end game content for the ELEMENTAL faction.

So end-game for Elementals is going to be truly awesome. When Elementals consume Dragons, they gain power, after consuming enough dragons, a Fire, Ice, and Storm Elemental can combine to form an Hydra Elemental Dragon that will be class 9 and playable. This Leviathan-class Dragon will have the ability to fly and each head will have one of the 3 elements of the Elementals - Ice, Fire, Lightning. 

There will only ever be one Hydra alive at a time, and it will be truly terrifying to all Dragon-kind. But that is all we're going to say about that. Be watching for the concept reveal coming later this year (hopefully).

Here are some answers to some questions some of you might ask.

Will there be natural Hydra species for the Dragon faction?

No. Hydras are not natural so we have no plans of having naturally occuring Hydra dragons, but the Hydra elemental will be an unnatural dragon for the Elemental Faction.

How does the Hydra work? 

When Magma, Thunder, and Glacier combine, they transform into a Hydra Leviathan. The player who starts the merge takes control of the center head and body, while the other 2 players each control a head with their element. If the Hydra dies, so do the Elementals. If one player logs off while the Hydra is formed, the Hydra transforms back into Elementals. 

How long does the Hydra stay in the game?

Until it dies or runs out of dragon bile (food) which it will then transform back into 3 Elementals who will then need to get their power back up again to transform again.

Is the Hydra selectable/spawnable?

No, it is session based and requires 3 players.

Can Elementals join or form clans?

No, they can not be in clans or form groups with the Dragon faction. They cannot clan with other elementals either but can form groups with Elementals and can only see Elementals in the player list.

Will this Hydra be able to fly?

Yes, it is in all essence a "dragon" with 3 heads. So 4 legs, 2 wings, 3 heads.

Are there Hydra Elementals on Nharogk? 

No. After the Elementals first came to Jrakhon, they realized the power that consuming Dragon Bile gave them, not only does it make them stronger, consuming enough dragon bile allows them to do things that are unnatural, such as take on a form of the Dragons, albeit, an abomination to Dragonkind. 

When can we expect this Leviathan Elemental to come into the game?

2023 at the earliest.
