Hello esteemed Retronauts supporters, Diamond Feit here. I know it's hot outside and Halloween is months away but it's time for another terror-themed podcast. I just can't put the Resident Evil series out of my mind and that means I'm back talking about it for your (hopeful) amusement.

This week we're covering Resident Evil Revelations, the short-lived spinoff series that zagged while the mainline series zigged towards bigger budgets and even bigger spectacle. Beginning on 3DS and later going multiplatform, these games put players in dark, cramped locales, surrounded them with shambling ghouls, and asked them to survive.

Stuart Gipp and returning guest Richard Eisenbeis join me in lauding Revelations for trying to frighten us when the big money men said that straight-horror didn't have a future in video games. Take note: we curse in this podcast because Moira Burton would have wanted it that way.

Art by Greg Melo and extra special thanks to our editor Greg Leahy who went above and beyond with the introduction. That's his voice you'll hear at the start!

I'll be that gal: Rev2 was actually my first RE game. I've since gone through the series and even cleared the bad, deceased online ones. I've seen all of the lore drops in Umbrella Corps. Despite this criminal lack of taste, I'm with Stu: Rev2 is my favorite game in the series by a mile, replays are still tight as hell and the tone always works.

A skit intro *and* Diamond swearing all within the first two minutes? Truly our cup runeth over.

I wonder if the big ending twist of Rev 2 will ever come into play in any of the future games? Resident Evil is full of dropped plotlines, though.

I haven't played this game since it came and, in keeping with all the Simpsons references in this episode, "My memory! The brain do nothing!" Maybe it's time for another playthrough?

OK. After listening to this I tried RE Rev1 again for the 4th time. Between The 3ds and PS4 port, I never finished the 2nd chapter. I hunkered down and got to chapter 3 and the game really starts getting good. It’s not perfect and I still prefer classic RE, but now I’m near the end of the game and I’ve loved it. I had no idea the meat of the game was basically classic RE with Jill.

Okay I’m pretty sure this was the 1st game that I used gyro aiming with. I’m pretty sure I bought a FrankenStivk to play this on my 3DS. Ended up not liking it at all and found the gyro aiming to be way easier. Ended up selling it to GameStop. Wish I had one though that would work on my 3DSXL. I bought Kid Icarus right before the shop closed down. Man that game sucks using a stylus. Anyway back to the Revelation games. They are awesome on the Switch except for the GyroAiming it is still broken if you are an invert the Y-axis kind of guy like I was. Inverting the Y-Axis also inverts the motion aiming making it impossible to use. I basically rewired my brain when I played Revelations 2. now I don’t invert the Y-axis unless I’m piloting something.
