Jeremy: I told you that the Metroidvania Book Club would be a series! And I wasn't lying! Here, we kick off our conversation about the second game in the series, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. We being myself, Kat Willaert, Stuart Gipp, and Chris Sims.

Since that's not exactly a retro release, having shipped only about a year ago, we open this episode by recapping the history of Prince of Persia with an eye specifically on what the new game takes from the old. (Quite a lot, as it turns out.) We actually don't talk that much about the overall game flow this time, instead focusing largely on some of its core mechanics and our respective feelings on things like how combat works, but! Thanks to the Retronauts Discord community, we do have plenty of thoughts about the opening hours of The Lost Crown. You, too, can join the conversation and possibly have your feedback incorporated into the show by hopping into our subscribers-only Discord. It's good! And fun! Much like The Lost Crown.

We'll be recording our second and, I suspect, final conversation about The Lost Crown in about a month. So until then, enjoy this conversation and go chat it up in Discord.

I love me some timey-whimey shenanigans.

I picked up this game as soon as I heard it was going to be on the book club. I’m glad I played it early because it’s a long game for a metroidvania.

Heart of Darkness is still Eric Chahi like Another World.

If only somebody could get Digital Eclipse, Jordan Mechner, and Ubisoft together...

Of the original series, Tomb Raider 1 and 4 are the ones I like. 2, 3, 5, and 6 are too much combat.

Hey, I love Sands of Time, Jeremy. And thanks to Stuart for bringing up the lovely little GBA game.

Not really on the Discord, so I'm only aware once the episode hits my feed. That being said, I just rolled credits, and it's one of the best games I've played this year. While I agree with some of the minor grievances, I can't believe how whiny everyone was about parrying. You made it seem like it was as required as it is in Sekiro, when outside of the DLC you can get away without parrying the vast majority of the time. Not to mention the timing window is far more forgiving than Street Fighter 3 or any Souls game. I'd argue that this might have the best combat in any "Search/Action" game I've played.
