QotM: i sometimes wonder with playing so many adventure games and Pokemon Snap means I could probably do well as a private detective. Probably don't have the patience though.

Stuart Gipp

QotM: I think I would make a decent, if not exceptional video games writer and podcaster.

Grant Baxter

QotM: When I was like 10 or 11 years old, I played the first Ace Attorney. It made me genuinely think that I could become a defense attorney and I just needed to make good arguments and find logic holes. I thought lawyers could be just people who wanted to help others like Phoenix and only take on innocent clients. I still wanted to be a lawyer until I was like 16. Insert The Simpsons "World Without Lawyers" clip here.

Sebastiano Gerace

QotM: I am surprisingly good at boxing games, from Punch-Out!! to Fight Night to Wii Sports. I can take the jab I have honed playing these games to at least a .500 record against other low level boxers.

Diamond! I'll look for you at PRGE. Look for me, I look exactly like my profile pic. And don't worry about the weather, it turned into fall one day last week and hasn't stopped since.

Stu, I did see "Jaws" for its 50th anniversary at a small, local, one-screen theater recently. One of the things this Portland is known for is its indie theater scene.

I've been to that Osaka aquarium with its funny but scary formaldehyde shark.

Diamond’s reaction when Stu says Galaxy 2 is one of the worst mainline Mario games 🤣

Wow, this was an awesome episode (despite the trash fire that was September 2025). I'm somewhat ashamed that I didn't know just how awesome Robert Redford was until after his death. Stu, not to be that guy, but of course the Jaws game doesn't live up to the first Jaws movie because it's actually based on Jaws: The Revenge. The shell collecting, shark radar, mini-sub, jelly fish dive-bombing minigame and stabbing the shark to death with your boat are all out of that movie. I'd have to argue that Jaws for the NES is superior to Jaws: The Revenge in every way except the beautiful house Michael Caine purchased with his giant shark money. QotM: I've played hundreds of hours of the Freelancer mode in Hitman: World of Assassins and it makes me think I'd make a great personal assistant to an international hitman. From studying the locations to choosing loadouts and kill tactics, I think I could make the act of taking out scumbags as frictionless as possible (pro tip: ALWAYS bring a baseball). There's just something weirdly satisfying about choosing all the right gear for a given contract from Agent 47's immaculate basement of death.

Not really an answer to QotW but tangential - As a construction equipment operator and Gen Y-er I was used to being able to learn a new type of console controller or game controls quickly and easily. Cue me completely failing to have any skill in a 20 tonne excavator (dual joystick controls) yet a 70 year old, digitally-illiterate, experienced operator could use the bucket to roll a cigarette (figuratively speaking) such is his ability with the machine. Goes to show that being great with digital controls doesn't port over to real world physical systems with power curves, control slop, real world physics and so on. Would be great fun to offer the same experience to gamers everywhere. By the same token I only needed to play Truck Simulator for ten minutes (enough to enjoy the fidelity of the game and how the gameplay adapts real life) to feel frustrated with it compared to the reality of handing and reversing etc medium sized trucks. Ditto again for Snowrunner, where the ground traction physics are uncanny-valley for those who actually know how trucks behave on muddy or wet ground. Missing the physical presence and tactile feedback of a real machine makes all the difference for the enjoyment and suspension of disbelief of those who know.

QotM: cooking dubious food

I look forward to hearing Stu's thoughts on Silksong's checkpoints after he reaches a certain area in Act 2. I say that not as a 'gotcha', just that I mostly agreed with his assessment of the checkpoints until I reached that area at which point I was like "Oh come the f*ck on"

QoTM: I never made this connection in my life until Diamond posed the question, but I'm starting to think video games prepared me to succeed in middle management. I'm one of those Koei sickos (think Aerobiz Supersonic, Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, etc.) and I love games with (sometimes unnecessarily) complicated systems. While I am by no means a statistician or management consultant, I've taught myself enough with Excel to run circles around my middle management peers when it comes to analyzing business information to understand what's going on and make decisions. I also second Diamond on the driving. Having driven vehicles in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, a youth spent playing video games did pretty well to give me a head start on driving skills in these environments.

For the question: Relating to the recent excellent train ep by Nadia, Victor, and Kevin, I think train simulations have undoubtedly readied me for a career on the tracks. Which I actually was going to do a decade ago but stopped because of horror stories during orientation (missing fingers, missing holidays and precious moments, and missing...well, their life because of rail tragedies).

QOTM: I've been on a real job-based jrpg kick lately. WIth the amount of parties I've assembled for their cool, cute, outlandish outfits, I bet I'd be able to manage an idol group of some kind. At the very least I could run a Vtubing organization.

Phoequinox

QotM: I've always loved finding secrets in games, especially things that were never intended to be found. That fascination would likely suit a job unearthing mysteries, so I'm thinking either archaeologist or marine biologist. Something that satisfies my desire to find interesting things and my penchant for exploring outside of what we know. At least until a profession comes along that encourages destroying the laws of physics and phasing through walls.

GameBoyJames

QotM: Between two Death Stranding games, a myriad of Crazy Taxi clones/derivatives, and countless open world adventures with points of interest peppered across the map like so much buckshot, I think I would be an exceptional delivery driver of some kind. Plotting the most efficient routes that allow the largest number of deliveries possible while utilizing the least amount of gas would be a cakewalk. Oh, and there was one liquid metal character from the Mega Man franchise that came to mind for me: Mercury from Mega Man V, for Game Boy.

The mention of the Kaiyūkan reminds me of the time I went there and ended up near a school trip were all the students were looking into the giant aquarium tank and earnestly commenting on how delicious all the fish looked.
