As part of our annual tradition, it's time once again to remind our listeners that a year which seemingly wasn't TOO long ago actually took place two decades prior. In the face of such shocking news, we must steel ourselves, gather together, and reminisce about the various events that happened; so these incidents will or won't repeat themselves—your call. On this episode, join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Kevin Bunch, and Diamond Feit as the crew settles in and remembers an era in which 60 gigabytes used to be pretty sizable for a hard drive.

I still play my PS3 on a regular basis. A lot of games never got next gen ports so it makes the console a necessity.

I have a lot to say about this one, first of all I can’t believe this podcast is 20 years old and now I’ll never think about everything after the poker game in Casino Royale without comparing it to the Inverted Castle, an all time comparison 😂 Anyways, I remember graduating from high school this year and going to college thinking “it’s time to retire”…and then the Wii came out with Twilight Princess and that thought quickly vanished. And I will say the other thing I loved about the Wii besides having a Zelda right off the bat and Wii Sports was the Virtual Console, which obviously could have been even better but having the ability to just pay $5 to play Kirby’s Adventure was mind blowing. Did I end up buying Mario 3 over and over again after this? Obviously, but this was the first time!! I’ll have to wait till next year to talk about Mario Galaxy winning me back over until Sunshine but 2006 was definitely the year of the Wii for me!

I hope you guys do record a Twilight Princess episode. I replayed the Wii version (the only one I’ve ever played) for the first time since 2010 this year, and I loved it. Honestly, it might be my favorite Zelda. I feel like it’s kind of unfairly maligned now because of the backlash TO the backlash of Wind Waker, but, dated “realistic” graphics aside, it’s a damn good game. It’s got a lot of interesting ideas and mechanics that I think get ignored, with people waving it away as “Ocarina of Time, but bigger.” But there’s a heart to Twilight Princess, and the motion controls still hold up IMO. Plus, it introduced snowboarding to Zelda, which I think is pretty cool.

Disappointed no one said "I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch!" when Bob called the Wii a sales juggernaut.

My daughter works at an old folks home and the residents there STILL play Wii Bowling to this day.

Going back to 2006 Retronauts is a worthwhile experience. Lots of new-project excitement and talking over one another to get the thoughts out. It's a very different show, and while I prefer what we have now, there is basically no "wow that aged poorly" in the older stuff. It's a catalog to be proud of. Here's to the next 20 years!

Having been on the SA anime forum at the time, I think your history of it was entirely fictional lol. I doubt anyone involved in starting other websites was ever even banned from SA. The bad elements would probably be Lowtax, and that species of weird guy on Bluesky who only communicates in formulaic threats about shoving people into lockers or calling people pissbabies or whatever. That is clearly from FYAD/LF but I wonder if they even know why they're doing it.
