Hey everyone,

Bob here. And I come to you full of gratitude, because today is the 15th anniversary of when I first took over hosting duties of Retronauts. Yes, way back in the year 2011: when podcasts once belonged to things called "websites," and we as a society were all fixated on our 3DSes, skinny jeans, and hula hoops. Because I already celebrated 10 years of Retronauts with a longish post, I don't have much more to say here. My sentiments remain the same, so if you missed that chunk of writing, check it out and swap in the updated numbers when necessary.

As a way to commemorate 15 years of hosting Retronauts, I've uploaded my very first episode to my personal YouTube account. Thanks to archive.org, you can find everything from our pre-independent run with a few searches, but I wanted to make this particular installment a little more accessible. So thanks for listening to me for 15 years—and hey, here's to 15 more. Since the podcast turns 20 in October, that proposition doesn't seem too unlikely, does it?

Retronauts Live Episode 17: Super Nintendo 20th Anniversary (Part One)

My very first episode of Retronauts, which originally went live on August 4, 2011. Can you believe the Super Nintendo was once only two decades old? And can you believe I've been hosting this podcast for 15 years? In any case, I'm reposting my debut here for posterity. Also to show that we all start somewhere—and our vocal cords eventually develop a thick callous that makes us sound more professional. Note: I don't own this—the world does. And if you want more 1UP.com-era episodes of Retronauts, please turn to your friends at archive.org. But in general I recommend listening to the new ones and giving us money. It just makes sense! I've been listening to Retronauts since episode 1! From the very first 1UP.com episode. 20 years! More than half my life!

Jared Breland

congrats, Bob! Happy you're still involved this many years on. Agreed - here's to another 15!

Alex Irish

Congration! I feel like I’ve been there since early 2012 and never got off the train ride since

James Krusling

I got into the podcast right around when you showed up! The 1up.com finale with your intro of “security escorting me out of the building” was an all timer. You and everybody at the pod continue to do great stuff and I continue to enjoy it to this day!

Graham McNaught

I've been around since maybe 2015, but have been partial to a Bob episode from the start. Here's to many more years!

Wow! Hey, huge congrats on this anniversary! I vividly remember this episode; it's forever linked in my mind to putting together my son's cot before he was born. He's turning 15 in just a few weeks! It's wild to think my boy would be so far ahead of the Super Nintendo era – he'll probably see it the way I see stuff like Sputnik, the start of colour TV, or those early transatlantic flights that happened 20 years before I was even born. Time just flies, Keep on Keeping on, Bob, my sometimes virtual buddy. Listening to you definitely makes the hours go by in a much more enjoyable way as I zip through this time tunnel!

There was a different theme? Congratulations!

Jeremy saying “Aeris” reminds us that proper pronunciation of names was still in development over here

Shadowmask

I binged your back catalog during covid and have been a loyal listener ever since, cheers!

You are one of the reasons I like this podcast. I hope you will enjoy being part of this journey for many more years. 👍🏻

grats, bob.

Way back in 2010 I would download episodes of Retronauts from 1UP.com and listen to them on my 3rd gen iPod Touch on long drives to and from the college I was studying at. I recall enjoying some of the other shows such as the crudely titled 4 Guys 1 Up and Games, Dammit! I took a vey long hiatus from podcasts in general and only returned to them in the last few years. To my pleasant surprise Retronauts was still active and even better than I remembered. Some podcasts seem to lose the plot as they age but this has certainly not been the case. Thank you for the dedication all these years and I only hope the show continues on for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for all you've made so far, Bob! The Christmas specials are, for my money, always a show highlight. The Retronauts Treehouse of Mediocrity, if you will.

Bob, congratulations on a truly amazing 15 years! Listening to this OG podcast was quite entertaining; I totally lost it, hearing Parish utter "The 3DS has been sucking balls." Was not expecting that from Jeremy. Ribald.

Bob sounds like a baby! Congrats on 15 years!

Bob I’ve followed you your whole ride. I started listening to retronauts back in 2008 and I remember when you took the reins in 2011. I remember the end of 1up and being long time forum member there. I remember that one other show that Jose used to do on the 1up network and the very last episode had alumni saying there farewells. It’s been a crazy ride. Thank you for all your hard work and everything you brought to the table. I’ve enjoyed it all.

Thank you Bob!
