Can you believe it? Our little podcast has now been around for 15 years! (That's the crystal anniversary for all of you out shopping for gifts.) So instead of reflecting on classic games this week, we've decided to do some self-reflection by talking about where we've been, where we are, and where we're going on this wacky rollercoaster we call "podcasting." And, in the back of half of the episode, we respond to your questions and comments about 15 years of Retronauts. Thanks again for all your support, and here's to 15 more!

So I think I am probably the guy that Bob is referring to when he said that people were still finding out that you guys are back to podcasting. I missed out for about ten years after 1up shut down. I felt bad for all of you, and bad for myself! I remember Tina cried! Wanted to say, without overburdening you with pathos, that listening to Bob, Jeremy, and all your new contributors has resurrected that feeling of looking forward to something fun every week. A moment where I can sit down, put on the headphones, clear my mind, and listen and laugh along with you all. It's a small gift you give, not life-changing in any way, yet one more thing that can make my days feel more enjoyable. In this boring dystopia, I thank you and congratulate you for 15 years of helping tip the scales toward joy. These little things count, and I will keep slapping a cool crisp five dollar bill down every month for the all the fun. I hope you always take pride in what you do for us!

What a great podcast! It was really fun to learn some of the behind the scenes stuff and just how you all do what you do. Also cool to see how Retronauts has grown and changed over time. I'm looking forward to 15 more years (at least) of Retronauts for sure! Congratulations on such a wonderful podcast and community. :)

It's great to have been there for the first retronauts and the 1up days and see where you're all at now. I look forward to every episode!

I’ve loved following the podcast over the years and am very thankful for all that you have done. Looking forward at all that is to come!

I've been following a long time, since early in the 1up days. To think that you'd reach the other Funny Number independently is just unreal. Here's to another 15 years!

Gosh I hope PRGE happens again next year too 🤞

Thanks for the 15 years! Retronauts was then, and remains to this day, my favourite podcast.

Been a fan since the beginning! Here's to more successful years to come!

Really looking forward to Jeremy’s upcoming take on Twin Peaks that was mentioned!

Bob, that's funny that you mention Spy vs. Spy in that way because for me it was the opposite. My dad wanted me to get Contra but me being a Mad magazine reader, insisted on Spy vs. Spy instead.

In regards to quality golf games, I've tried as many as humanly possible and have concluded that the Everybody's Golf/Hot Shot Golf series perfected the form in the 3rd, 4th and 5th outings. Relaxing music, dumb characters and the putting is tough but fair. I'd also like to co-sign as to how enjoyable the Famicom Detective Club remakes were. Love the animation in particular.

Great stuff, I got into it around the time Bob took over during the 1up days and continued through the Kickstarter and Patreon era, you guys have been crushing it for all these years! By the way, I still remember Bob’s opening from the last 1up episode (but thankfully not the last one ever) and I laugh about it every time I think about it, “this week on Retronauts…security escorts me out of the building!” Big Irish wake energy on that one! Oh! One more thing in this already too long comment, I got Warioland 2 specifically because of the podcast and it’s now a favorite of mine as well, the pod gave me a much greater appreciation for it!

The old music brought me back to high school ❤️

Congrats on 15! My absolute favorite podcast.

Why are the podcast files inconsistent from one episode to the next?

As a writer I really appreciate you commiserating about the online freelancing world. When you tell people you write, they either have very out of date ideas about it, or think you're a slacker who just posts all day and calls that their job.

Started listening during the 1up days. You all got me through my terrible commutes to college. When you all came back a few years ago. I was so excited. 15 years later you all are still one my go to podcasts.

Great episode! What's the song you used in the intro? I was able to hum along but cannot remember how I know it.

Listener since the 1UP days here, thank you for continuing to make such a great show! I’m lucky it’s been a regular part of my life since being a teenager, this episode brought back a lot of memories. It’s been rewarding to hear the show get even better over the years and meet you guys at various PAX Wests and PRGEs. Looking forward to the next time the world is safe enough to have another Retronauts @ PRGE meetup. Thank you Jeremy & Bob✌️

It’s good to be reminded that our Patreon money supports a whole ecosystem of people, not just the hosts. The more creatives with genuine passion that this podcast can support the better!

Spy v spy was also one of my first NES games, and under the same kind of situation. I liked Mad magazine as a kid for some reason and recognized the characters, but my mother spent her hard earned cash on it and it was very disappointing.
