Hello, all, I'm attempting to upload this episode from an airplane, which is probably not the best idea I've ever had. We'll see how it goes. Anyway—cramped quarters here, difficult to write something pithy. Thankfully, this episode speaks for itself, and we speak for ourselves herein. And, thankfully, it seems as though the multiple intended participants who had to drop out due to COVID or other grim concerns have all recovered. Thanks to Diamond Feit, Stuart Gipp, and especially Kevin Bunch for coming together to help in a pinch. This episode almost didn't happen! But it did, and now you're going to listen to it.

Edits by Greg Leahy and art by Amanda Pruitt.

Hunny wake up, a new Retronauts mailbag just dropped.

NGPC stick is sooooo good. It's a shame there are like two controllers ever to have a similar microswitch setup (PDP Versus and the NGCD/PS2/PS3 pad). Oh and another controller that has a mix of concave and convex buttons is the Saturn pad

Julian

I would like to second Jeremy’s suggestion that Kevin host an episode (or episodes)!

Robbie

That Yakuza Maid anime sounds incredible.

Loved this episode! I hope you do one for the Patreon questions. Also, I hope you do an episode on the BEST hardware to play certain games on. I'd love to know what is the best way to play Tempest or Pacman outside the arcade. I noticed a huge difference when playing on the original equipment.

Wood Duck [Legacy Edition]

Diamond your comment on a possible Dreamcast-aesthetic-indie-wave reminded me of the excellent stylised, arcadey jet game "Sky Rogue". Even though I think I have literally never set eyes on a Dreamcast IRL, the game certainly gives me the vibes of that era, from the GameCube ports I played anyway. A very addictive game with flight physics they don't take themselves seriously and heaps of weapons and planes to unlock across multiple runs. Check it out on Steam if any of that sounds good!

I feel accomplished that I got the word Grandia said on Retronauts. I’ll take it.

Stu, you're not the only one who loves Sierra games.

TeamVenom

Looking forward to the Blandia episode.

Does patreon auto renames all the mp3 to 1.mp3?

The back and forth between Stu and Jeremy had me cracking up!

MVB

I agree, you should do a Shadow Hearts episode

"There are no dated games." Capcom's 1942 and 1943? 😀

Kevin Hardyman

Great episode! Thank you for addressing my question.

Wil DeCarde

Excellent back and forth, right on the edge of rowdiness, which is a great energy to inject from time to time in a very fact-heavy subject matter.

Jefklak

I want that Apogee one!!!!

The discussion of books and printed matter sources for video game history was excellent, and not just because the hosts are current and future authors! It made me think of Box Brown's Tetris graphic novel, which I will need to reread now that Tetris is available through Switch Online. Glad to have some "new" titles to add to my reading list.

What’s the name of Kevin’s book? I’d like to preorder it.
