Guest host Jess continues her extremely specific fascination with point-and-click games from the waning years of Full Motion Video games! (Actually, this came out the same year as the other one she's covered: Toonstruck! Boy, 1996 was a big year for big failures.) And this time, she's bringing along two of the actors from the game: Curtis Craig (Stetler) and one of his many in-game romantic interests, Therese (Sigrunardottir)! They discuss this bizarre game and the strange hybrid of movie and game production it underwent, only to bust out on the scene and be one of the death knells of Sierra!

Also discussed: how to get into videogames way past the prime age to do so, how not to go crazy during a pandemic, and how awkward it is to shop for bondage gear with your boss!

And don't forget to check out Paul's Youtube channel, Conversations with Curtis (https://www.youtube.com/@ConversationsWithCurtis), if you want even more behind-the-scenes trivia about this gory and gothic and goofy game.

Oh wow! What tale from the scary side of the computer store! Another great episode

Kormakur Gardarsson

Wait, a fellow Icelander voiced this game? How cool is that!

Uhhh...Greg

Classic game that you see, and then ten years later suddenly remember it and doubt that it could ever have really existed. I was way too young for the game, but saw a lot of it anyway because I was at a chess tournament where one of the administrators was playing it at the registration desk between rounds. Like, he knew I was too young for it (13-14 or something), but was nonetheless unable to chase me away, and unwilling to just stop playing the game. He would at least insist that I leave when prophylactic -infused cocktails started showing up.

I loved this episode - while this is totally in my wheelhouse anyway as a graphic adventure fan, as someone who was also too young in the 90s and very influenced by magazine reviews I have still never played either Phantasmagoria game, and this was a really interesting look at some stuff I had no idea about relating to it (admittedly less on the mechanics/gameplay but that's perhaps for the best...!). Amazing to get people who were involved in making it on the pod as well, and both host and guests were really interesting to listen to. Thanks very much!

"Note: Jocilyn died on the way back to his home planet."

Well, I’ve now inaugurated my brand new July Black Friday gaming laptop with 50 minutes of Phantasmagoria 2 from GOG. Might finish 1 “day” (or disc) per night the way Ken Williams used to recommend.

Shrunken Shrine

Without question, a modern Retronauts masterpiece. Every now and then you have topics that offer a warm, fuzzy feeling because they wouldn't be happening were it not for several stars aligning just right, and this is one of them. Paul (and his channel) makes for a fascinating game historian because he doesn't actually come to his topics and interviews from a 'gamer' background. Could have listened you all talk for twice as long. Truly unique - brilliant episode, Jess!

I’ve lived in Seattle for the last ten years so it’s always cool to hear about stuff from the 90’s even if it’s “We went to a leather dungeon shop in this neighborhood to buy props…” and I think “Oh I know the place they’re talking about!”

Another excellent episode. I missed out on many point-and-click adventures because I never had a computer growing up -- that and pointing is rude.
