Jeremy: Just a quick heads-up before you begin listening to this week's episode—there's a lot of background noise this time around, and that's because Diamond and I recorded this on the spot. We literally left the convention center as BitSummit closed its doors and immediately began recounting all the cool stuff we saw while said stuff was still fresh in our minds. That means there's a lot of street noise and, later, café noise, but sometimes you gotta strike while the iron's hot. There's also a change in audio quality since one of our portable mics permanently died about 15 minutes into the show. But no matter; neither noisy traffic, defective equipment, questionable cover songs, a terrible espresso drink that tasted like sick, nor the body-melting heat of a Kansai summer sun could deter us from completing our mission to talk about new games that feel authentically old!

Also this episode: A brief on-the-spot interview with voice actor and game designer Jörg Tittel. It's quite a random grab bag of material and circumstances, but that's what happens when Retronauts embraces the moment rather than dwelling in the past.

Edits by Greg Leahy and art by Greg Melo.

background noise aside this sounds better than I expected! most of this was just us talking into iPhones in our pockets!

The sound is fine! I’m here for the new retronauts in cars getting coffee series.

There was a bit about traveling internationally and seeing landmarks in movies - I’m flying back from London and watching one of the later Harry Potter flicks, and “Ah! that’s Piccadilly Circus … suspiciously devoid of traffic.” “Ah! That’s the Millennium bridge (suspension foot bridge across the Thames between Tate Modern and St Paul’s) I was just there two days ago the bad guys blew it up. Glad I got out in time.” https://youtu.be/Mo-U5iOinM8 Regarding Hebereke 2 - in the the late 90’s when everyone was discovering emulators and getting ahold of the entire SNES/SFC library on a single burned CD-R, the quirky character designs of the Hebereke games jumped out at me. I thought it was an anime that had been adapted but - no - it’s was an entire franchise that never made it to North America. Sure I’d like to see Sunsoft mine their old properties for ideas. I’d like to see Konami do that to their 80’s and 90’s character roster, too.

Multiplayer Dungeon

Cat with nine lives game sounds a lot like a borg simulator.

These guerilla on the ground style shows are fun in how they bounce around. I like these more than the live con panels you've done in the past. I hope these continue every single show any of you go to.

JJR

Which issue of Dreamcast Magazine is he referring to at the interview at the end?

Yeah the audio was fine. I appreciated the vibes of this episode. It shows that Retronauts can be just as successful when it's off-the-cuff as it is when it's thoughtfully planned and painstakingly researched.

Personally, as a Virginian living in Cali, I enjoyed hearing the cicadas.
