That Gipp is dynamite!!!

Multiplayer Dungeon

Dr Lunatic is fantastic. As soon as I heard "free on itch.io" I went to install it. I have not played much of it, but it has that old action puzzler style of play that I like. Chips Challenge or Lolo but you can shoot hammers and with more level variety. Great stuff. Thanks, Gipp. All games are good, but this game is especially good.

I *can* pay more? I guess I’ll just go do that, whether or not Diamond goes to the shrine or I get Stuart’s plastic bottle or no.

Love these month-end recaps! I gotta know who did that delicious cover of “Black Hole Sun,” though

QotM: so for a less obvious game I'm looking forward to (which came out in Japan last year but should be here this year) is Ys X Nordics. Gotten into the franchise in the last few years and the concept of the regular gameplay of the last 3 games mixed with ship combat seems like it will be a good time.

My most anticipated game of 2024 is easily Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Depending on the day you ask me, Suikoden might be my favorite series of all-time and Suikoden II was my favorite game ever (until I played Skies of Arcadia). I had lamented the definitive death of the series ever returning after Konami turned into the shell of itself that it exists in today, but when I discovered the original Suikoden creators and team were making a spiritual sequel, I literally backed the Kickstarter within the first hour when I learned it was up. The only shame is the the rich world-building and evolving world and characters of Suikoden that had been built up over the course of the series has to be abandoned with this fresh start, but I'm confident the team will craft another intriguing, rich, and creative world and cast, and the excellent gameplay thankfully seems to be completely faithful to the originals. This seems to basically be the new Suikoden I never thought would ever happen in everything but name.

Thanks for reading my comment. It was nice to hear "Omori" spoken authentically.

DF - do you have a voice modulator on hand during all podcasts?

Craig

I’m starting to measure time specifically based on the release of This Month in Retronauts

The game I'm looking forward to is Hollow Knight Silksong! Just like last year! This year for sure... for sure. (Also it's pronounced like "eye-k'm".)

Thought the NY 1994 anthem was going to be the Knicks’ “Go NY go NY go!”

It's been a while since the gaming world has been able to excite me the way it has the last few years, and this year has two titles in particular that I'm very excited for: Hades 2 and Eiyuden Chronicles. The original Hades was shockingly excellent with how it made the most crushing defeats into a reward, with more story to learn and exploits to unlock. Not to mention the various ways in which weapons and the abilities granted by gods mixed together to create inconceivably broken builds, and keep each attempt at bypassing Hades fresh and exciting. As someone who finds roguelikes tedious and redundant, that's no small feat. Eiyuden Chronicles. . . It's Suikoden. By the people who know Suikoden. It looks gorgeous and seems to really have the heart of what made the first two Suikodens so special, with modern design sensibilities and quality of life features.

My most anticipated game of 2024 at this point is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown which, funny enough, will be nearly a two month old game by the time you read this on the podcast. (If you read this.) So much for anticipation. Though to be fair, I probably won't get my hands on it until next winter anyway. Anyway, I have a good feeling since it was announced and I keep hearing great things, plus I've been hankering for more Prince of Persia for a while. I would be there day one if the classic PC games showed up on modern consoles too. (Not so much if they made another movie.)

Easily my most anticipated game of 2024 is, and I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet, Chrono Trigger 2: It's About Time. I don't love the title, but I'm sure the game will be fantastic. I'm also excited about Breath of Fire 6 in 2024 because it hasn't been made yet. I wonder if it will be on Switch, PC, PS4/5 and Xbox...but obviously not on mobile because that would be stupid. All of those new Castlevania's will be rad too.

CapNChris

Has it really been a year? I'm sold on the new format. I look forward to the monthly podcast and use it and Diamond's This Week in Retro to measure the months/weeks, respectively. Based on another comment, I'm not the only one.

Shrunken Shrine

I'm fortunate enough for my most anticipated 2024 game to already be out! The goodwill that the first Like A Dragon RPG instilled with its wonderful new protagonist Ichiban was so overwhelming that it easily made up for occasionally dodgy RPG mechanics. Assuming they've tightened up the job classes and combat a bit, I have no doubt Infinite Wealth could be a very early GOTY contender.

Wood Duck [Legacy Edition]

I'm very much looking forward to STALKER 2 this year. The original games were something very special, eurojank warts and all. The community has been dedicated with hundreds of mods over the last 16 years which is saying something given how uncooperative the original game engine is. The glossy, UE5 look of the game trailers makes it easy to be sceptical that it will just be another generic modern shooter, and the development has had its issues including being developed in an invaded nation but I still want to believe! For anyone interested in experiencing the word of STALKER for no cost consider trying "STALKER Anomaly" a free, completely overhauled mashup of all three original games areas. Purists will rightfully argue it doesn't contain the vanilla gameplay, original plot or the janky charm of the originals but it's free, standalone, runs well on modern systems and can be tweaked or modded to your satisfaction! Cheeki breeki and get out of here stalker!

Virtual Balboa

My most anticipated game of 2024 already released, and I wasn't disappointed! Tekken 8 is fantastic!
