Greetings from Diamond Feit! I hope everyone reading this is enjoying their super-sized February (now with 29 days). I know Stuart Gipp and I certainly enjoyed ourselves recording this, our latest community podcast. You left a ton of comments and feedback to cover this month and it was a delight to read!

Truth be told both Stu and I are recovering from ailments but I don't think that impacted our conversation. Fair warning: the episode takes a turn for the scandalous in the final minutes, so those of you with children may need to cover their ears. But don't let that dissuade you from listening to and responding to our monthly audience question!

QotM: it's a bit of a boring answer but instead of working with Mercury Steam for the followup to Metroid Dread, Nintendo outsources Metroid to Wayforward. They do great Metroidvanias but if they did Metroid it would be closer to their the Mummy Demastered game a few years back.

I think a reverse Valis could be fun, in which we take an Adult rated game and make it more family friendly. Nintendo's "Leisure Suit Luigi" anyone? Baldur's Gate 3 is fantastic, but just imagine what Konami could do with with it. Larian who? Pachinko please! Finally, Nintendo just give Zelda 2 to WayForward.

It is indeed the PC-88 version, the original. It's a bit of a rougher play, but the music and art is still stellar

'Mario's Phimotic Penis' sounds like an unreleased Software Toolworks edutainment game while they had the licence. It must be on The Cutting Room Floor... I'd set Bloober Team loose on making a new Rule of Rose. Make it equally as bad as the first game, but in the opposite way to play to their strengths: modernise the gameplay, ruin the atmosphere.

QotM: This is a somewhat niche response, but I would love for Bethesda to make an open world-style Shadowrun game. Ever since the mid-90's, I have eagerly been anticipating any new Shadowrun game (for anyone that knows, the 2007 PC/Xbox one doesn't count). While I've been extremely pleased with and played all the Harebrained Schemes Shadowrun games (2013-2015), I believe the lore, richness of the universe, and the freedom inherent in a tabletop RPG (from which Shadowrun originates), would be well-suited to the style of game that Bethesda has created with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. It will never happen, but I can dream...

Love these episodes! Stew and Diamond have a great rapport!

Wood Duck [Legacy Edition]

Goes to Diamonds new website. deaddove.jpeg It's like 2001 primary school computing class lesson! (I joke I'm sure you've got lots of work to do) Also I nominate Retro Studios to give us a new F zero game, very creative I know.

Stu, I bought a “time for chili” hat so I think my time issue is finally squared away.

Absolutely nothing about the Contra episode was too long. Every ranking shootenanny should be over 3 hours.

Wow, first Stu mentions Gabber on the Contra episode and now we have Happy Hardcore in this one. Retronauts is turning into quite the rave.

To the monthly question, I actually have an answer I don't have to think about. For years, I have really wanted a proper revival of The Lost Vikings, but given to Valve. More specifically, given to the minds behind Portal. The dry, yet absurd humor and ingenious puzzles found in both series would be a perfect match. It Takes Two is the most like a modern Lost Vikings of anything to come out in the last 20 years, but the gameplay is more akin to a two-player Banjo-Kazooie than a proper puzzle game. The game design presented in Lost Vikings deserves to be revived, and I can think of no other company with better heads for recapturing that than Valve.

My answer to the QoM: Final Fantasy Tactics in the hands of Supergiant, makers of Hades.

Spec Ops: The Line was likely delisted because of music licensing.

Answer to monthly question: Give Pokemon to the Shin Megami Tensei developers. When I first got into SMT, I noticed the similarities between the two series. Both involve collecting various creatures to do battle, and both have battle systems centered around exploiting the rival creatures' weaknesses. However, I find SMT's battle system much more interesting and fast-paced. Sure, Pokemon's battle system is much more complex than it would appear at first glance, but that complexity only ever really matters in competitive play. SMT, however, is notorious for having early-game bosses that will completely wreck your party if you're not prepared. Most of the time in Pokemon, you can simply steamroll your way through most battles with your starting Pokemon, who will likely become over-leveled very quickly. In SMT, your demons don't gain enough experience to keep up. To progress, you have to sacrifice your old demons to fuse new ones, meaning every couple areas you explore, your party will have changed drastically. I feel like applying the SMT forumla to Pokemon would make for a much more interesting and challenging experience.

My contribution: Elden Ring took the world by storm, but let's not forget its most enduring trait: the beloved dogs... I mean turtles, among which stands a big exquisitely-rendered and well-spoken TURTLE POPE. Considering FromSoft is owned by none other than movie/media giant Kadokawa, I propose the following: Give FromSoft the world's most beloved overgrown turtle: Gamera! Make a follow-up to Panzer Dragoon-esque Gamera 2000 with its renowned live-action FMVs. Or make an action game in which you control Gamera in the style of the mech in Armored Core or Metal Wolf Chaos, laying complete waste to enemies (and cityscapes) cheered on by the songs of children all over the world. Koh Ohtani, who besides the 90's Gamera movies provided the score for Shadow of the Colossus, could do the music! The possibilities are endless. But knowing From Software, they will do the Guardian of the Universe justice.

For the Question of the Month: I would love to see La-Mulana developer NIGORO take a turn at a Zelda-like game, specifically in the top down action adventure style. A Legend of Zelda game with the in-depth layered puzzles of La-Mulana would be a fantastic way to experience the sword play of Link to the Past while also getting those brain wrinkling feelings. The Legend of Zelda puzzles have always seemed superficial to me, typically only requiring a specific tool for a specific situation. Outside the box thinking is few and far between and seldom reach outside the dungeons. I feel like TUNIC is something that got close to what I am looking for here but I’d love to see what NIGORO would do specifically.
