Last week I have done some more work on TOTDC 2. I wrote a short bad end for one of the fights that still needed it (art pending) and I have been improving the UI some more, trying to make certain buttons smaller and using tiptools where they make sense, harmonizing the look of menus where it makes sense, and so on.

I also fixed a few typos in Caliross, and I started working on the last few things to add to Caliross (I am starting from the trophies for the trophy room). I think I'll try to add some collectible of sorts for the final quests of the guilds and then I'll rework the trophy room a little to fit this as the final number of trophies. I am considering possible trophies for exploration-related stuff (maybe for finding the abyssal and the dweller? I'll have to look at the map and see if those are the most secretive/most appropriate spots).

Finally, the short story got some love as well, so the update for it should be ready soon.

I feel like I did something else, but now it's slipping my mind. XD

Anyway, more posts should come out this week, and next week we should get an update for Caliross, that's the short term plan. See you guys soon! ^_^

What has your debut in Ren'Py been like? 🤔. Is it easier or harder than working in RAGS and RPGM? 😅👍.

I have been using Ren'py for a while now. Even if slowly and with long breaks, I have been working on TOTDC 2 for a few years, so I have had the time to familiarize myself with the basics (and even forget some stuff after particularly long breaks! XD). If we are talking about ease of use, RAGS and RPGM are actually easier, in the sense that there are more "out of the box" features built-in, and you can do a lot with just the scripting language. With Ren'Py it's easier to customize things to the last detail, however, and it's very flexible with the things it allows you to do (for a VN engine, that is). I think RAGS was overall the worse engine, but it wasn't really that bad and it even had some things over RPGM or Ren'Py, so despite some big, inherent flaws, I can't badmouth it too much.

I'm just excited it's in Ren'py because that will run natively on a Mac. Man, the hoops I had to jump through to get VX Ace games to run on newer Macs (even with a Windows emulator installed)...

On Windows, you also need to download a separate file from the official VX Ace website; otherwise, you will get an error when running the game. However, this can be solved in 5 minutes by searching online 🙏.

Do you know if the Mac version has its own set of bugs or quirks? I can't remember if any of my testers have a Mac, so I might not be able to get the Mac and Linux version specifically tested.

I've never owned a Mac and never will, so unfortunately I can't help with that 🫠. Lucy, I suppose you're having trouble with your newer Macs because the VX Ace software is ancient. In fact, the patch that you have to download from their official website for Windows 11 is from 2012/2013 🤣. And it doesn't seem to work quite as well as other RPGM versions, either. For example, these VX Ace versions don't recognise something as basic as a controller's D-pad (you have to use the left stick, which is designed for moving around in 3D environments). Technical issues aside, "mdqp" is a genius for what he created 😎🙏🎉. I also appreciate that "mdqp" has switched to a more up-to-date engine.
