Haven't watched this in a long time, super curious to watch your reaction to the film and your overall opinions of it

Darryl Low

Happy Force Friday Nat. Looking forward to seeing what you made of this one. "Screamy planes and horsey things" You're awesome Nat 😄 Your thumbnail today is so cool, and your intro was really fun. The voice of the "rescue dog" droid D-O is JJ Abrams himself, and John Williams is man with the patch behind the bar on Kijimi. There's a lot of long camera shots in this movie to reduce the amount of editing time, as they were on a tight release schedule, due to the multiple script re-writes. Chewie finally got his medal at the end. It's been a running gag since the release of A New Hope that Chewie never got a medal during the awards ceremony at the end. And C-3PO's last line in this movie is the same as his first line in Ep.4 "Did you hear that?" Thanks for a great reaction today Nat. It was a lot of fun. Great to see Koda too. Thanks as always for all your amazing work this week. Have an brilliant weekend Nat 💛

RoadTripAdventuresWithAndrew

This one is hard to watch with it being just not fun to watch at all. Definitly hope you watch the other series like Boba and Obi Wan

Rey

Wooof...have fun with this one, imma wait for the cut down reaction. I can't do this one again lol

Julian Calzada

:sigh: let's just get this out of the way now ...

Daniel Molina

“Somehow Palpatine returned” is still one of the worst lines of dialogue in the history of cinema. Makes me laugh every time 😂

Geoffrey of Monmouth

Reverse course after fans threw a fit: the movie. What a rough watch.

Nic Benham

Only way I was watching this again was your reaction. Makes the last two look like citizen Kane.

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 You made it through the sequel trilogy. There were a few things that I did like about this one. Loved seeing Lando back. The super quick cameo appearance of Wedge Antilles(the X-Wing pilot from the or trilogy). And seeing Harrison Ford back as Han Solo even for one scene was great. Fun Fact: In the flashback scene of Luke and Leia training with the lightsabers, Leia was played by Carrie Fisher's real life daughter, Billie Lourd. All of Leia's scenes were reworked deleted scenes from the previous two sequel movies. Yesterday at the Star Wars Celebration convention it was announced that season 3 of "The Mandalorian" will be released in February 2023(next year). It's VERY IMPORTANT to watch "The Book of Boba Fett" before that because of spoilers for season 3 of Mando. Also, the new "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Disney+ show just started today. Looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day and weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

SmokeAndACoffee

your singing's great! you're all good xD lol

Steve J

yeah, it's so bad. It's essentially how a 6 yr-old would start off a Star Wars fan fiction.

Adam Grunther

I personally like this movie and I’m pretty sure I’m one of the few people who actually does.

Chen

looking forward to the livestream!

YYZHawk

You are correct.

Curaitis

Horses in Space says it all. Brutal abuse of the Franchise and beside Dark Fate probably the biggest Garbage a once iconic Franchise had to endure, Only absolute mindless Drones will tell you how great the Sequels are. The whole Sequelstory should have been burned.

David Sumner

This is the worst Live action Star Wars movie given a theatrical release. You know what's a better movie? ROADHOUSE!!

Jason Dolan

This movie is underrated.

collegeguy6377

At 24:50 when he grabbed the necklace that was foreshadowed in The Last Jedi when the water from the planet Rey was on splashed Kylo Ren in the face. Also yeah healing has been a Jedi thing for a while now in the old expanded universe. I think The Mandalorian was the first time it was shown on screen. And they did say that there was a second transport ship in the desert, which they did show for a few seconds when Chewie was getting captured. I feel like I'm explaining a lot here, but it's been established that Leia has a connection to the force. In ROTJ Luke said to her "You have that power too" and Leia replied "Somehow I've always known."

Jason Dolan

I like that you seem to just be going with the plot. You had all your theories and immediately just threw them out when you realized this movie was going to go a different direction. At the end of the day, with this being the furthest into the future, technically anything technological is possible - light speed tracking, x-win fighters and tie-fighters are able to travel at light speed now, but even that was possible by the time Return of the Jedi rolled around - lots of X-wings were going light speed to the second Death Star attack.

Tay Schumaker

Saw it in the theater and have no desire to ever see it again, thankfully I've forgotten most of it. Bums me out that Favreau and Filoni have to make their shows fit this mess

Marc Ammundsen

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on this one. Gotta agree with the majority of (or all) fans here. This was truly terrible. JJ Abrams does not know how to conclude stories. He's a one trick pony with his "Mystery Box" story telling that leaves it for others to try and wrap up. This was a rarity for him to have to come back and do that for something he started. 🤣

BobRooster

This movie is a series of increasingly stupid and lazy writing decisions. Along with terrible retcons that make this trilogy feel barely connected at all. Hard disagree. It’s rated as it should be

Jason Dolan

Hey look I get it. That's my exact feeling about the Prequels. I mean, in a galaxy of Space Ghosts, I didn't have any issue with Palpatine coming back. If anything it finally showed how the Sith could take advantage of the Space Ghost side of the Force, transferring his consciousness into a cloned body of himself. Honestly, really clever IMO. For me, the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren is more interesting than anything in the Prequels

Jason Dolan

For context, this is my ranking of all the Star Wars ESB ROTJ ANH MANDO TLJ TROS TFA SOLO R1 OB1 (so far) TBOBF TPM ROTS AOTC TCWM or more succinctly: Original Trilogy Mandalorian Sequel Trilogy Star Wars Stories Obi Wan Kenobi Book of Boba Fett Prequel Trilogy The Clone Wars Animated Movie

Adverb

The worst Star Wars film.

Opti_Frog

The only Star Wars film i'll never watch a second time.

Byron

Oh Jesus! Well, this will be something!

Jenny Tolls

Look I think most people are wayyy too critical of the Star Wars movies. Like the prequel trilogy was ripped apart by critics but the audience loved it! And people hated on the Last Jedi but it really wasn’t that bad and I feel like people ignored how beautiful and amazing the cinematography was. This movie however was absolute trash. Story made no sense and my expectations were so low because I had heard the reviews and I was still left utterly disappointed. So sad to see a trilogy end so terribly. Good thing the shows are really really good though and they truly capture the essence of Star Wars.

Brian Jones

I'm not saying this is a great film, or even a good one, but Obi Wan makes this look like high art..... At least judging by the first two episodes. It's a dumpster fire.

RoadTripAdventuresWithAndrew

Those first 2 were so well written. If we're comparing then just the 2 eps alone makes this movie look like a toddlers movie

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

I like this movie, we can see how they try to course correct everything that the Last Jedi changed on how the Force Awakens was trying to do. They also had to use unused scenes from Carrie Fisher on this movie as she died before the Last Jedi even came out. Also many force situations were shoved in this movie as they were barely touch on the previous movie, and many of them already existed on the Expanded Universe. The Mandalorian explains how the Emperor returned as the experiments they were doing for Grogu are the reason why they were able to get the emperor clones as they were trying to bring him back, this is how Rey's dad came to be as he is what they considered a "fail clone" of the Emperor...and yes, Finn is force sensitive, which is what he was going to say to Rey. Kylo's shrugg is the exact same as Han Solo did, many have even noticed they have very similar reactions. Mark Hamill grabbing the lightsaber was a nod about the disrespect it was of him throwing it away on the last movie as it wasn't JJ Abrams who worked on it.

Steve J

The good: The concept that the Sith can transfer their power through generations and cumulatively power up through succeeding 'Emperors' is a cool idea. Just too bad it felt less like lore building and more like 5-minute tacked on plot point. Ben Solo having more charisma in 90 seconds of screen time than Kylo in 3 movies worth of plot. The bad: literally the entire plot and execution

Othorious

I still don't understand why Nat has such a hard time grasping that Leia could use the Force lol

Matthew

"The Force is strong in my family" was established ages ago.

Crab Man

I like it too. It wasn't perfect but I enjoyed it.

Ian Rastall

The greater your familiarity with the deep story the better this is. It's the first time we see a Sith holocron, a Tho Yor, or the deep core. The problem with Abrams is that he operates on weed time. You can't notice it unless you're baked. Then the pacing smooths out. Luckily kids also operate on weed time.

Nautilus1492

Hi Nat and thanks for the reaction! Well, I won't speak about the film (we all know how bad it is and the reasons why it's bad) but your reaction was funny and bubbly hahaha I don't know why but I'm half surprised that even with a bad movie you got tears in your eyes, you are definitely golden hahaha Kodaaaa is so cute! Too bad Ridley didn't show his little nose hahaha Anyway, your reaction was pretty funny to watch, I hope you'll react franchise you didn't finish even if the films are "bad" (Hobbit and the rest of the Matrix films), I'm a believer that when you start something you have to finish it hahaha I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Brian Jones

Spoilers.......Well written??? lol..... They broke canon twice, the dialog from a young Leia was laughably bad, not to mention poorly acted, and speaking of poorly acted, Inquisitor Reva who's being held up as our big bad also had horrible line delivery. And that's not even getting in to the bad CG (genuinely worse than the prequels), sets, lighting, music, direction, and everything else that was horribly wrong with this show. Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor couldn't even save how bad the dialogue was. Their lines were wooden and nonsensical as well. To claim that it was "well written" is outright laughable. There were moments in those episodes that literally made no sense. But hey, you do you, you're welcome to your opinion. Dutiful consumers of hot new product regardless of quality like yourself are the reason Disney can continue to get away with regurgitating a garbage product and slapping a Star Wars label on it rather than actually being forced to show an ounce of quality, creativity, or originality......smh

Steve J

Nat laughing at the emotional climax of the trilogy kinda says it all :)

Darryl Low

Please delete this comment as it contains spoilers. Nat hasn't seen the show yet, so be a little more considerate with your remarks.

Fostena

I remember the fans being split in two when the prequels came out. The new generation enjoyed them, while the "true fans" and the press basically bullied the actors and the creators (Jake Lloyd quit acting and his life went to shit, George Lucas sold everything). Now, many years later, the prequel trilogy is highly regarded and the new trilogy is universally despised. I liked episode 8 very much, while the trilogy as a whole is a mess. Episode 9 is unwatchable. But I believe you can't evolve Star Wars past what they are doing with the TV series if you wish to please *the most toxic fanbase ever* . You must keep Luke alive with CG, Yoda, Obi Wan, Anakin, Boba Fett etc... it's the only way. And I hate it.

Brian Jones

@Darryl Low There were no details given about the shows plot. Not sure what you're referring to as a spoiler. It was strictly a list of what is technically wrong with the filmmaking aspects of the show. Of which there are countless examples.

Brian Jones

@RandomAndysChannel If you really want specific examples of my above claims I'll happily warn for REAL spoilers and give them to you. I just find it hilarious that the show has already broken canon twice and your claim is that the show is "so well written". Never mind the absolute absurdities that take place within the first two episodes. You can claim it's an "opinion" all day, but that's not opinion, that's unavoidable fact.....smh

J.C.G.

Ian McDiarmid continues to kill it as papa Palpatine, and in a perfect trilogy, the Emperor's return would have been properly foreshadowed through out. I particularly found the language used in the text crawl at the beginning a bit too over the top, since the next scenes show his introduction anyway, they could have left it a bit ambiguous as to who was behind the threat, though even the trailers for the movie had echoes of the Emperors laughter, so we knew he was in here somehow. The Emperor cloning himself or returning in one form or another was one of the staples of the extended universe of books/comics/video games from back in the before time, the long long ago, and was a well that writers went to way too often for my taste - but McDiarmid is so good as Palpatine, I was happy to have him back, I just hope this doesn't become the pattern that it did in the old books.

Brian Jones

There has absolutely been some revisionist history where the prequels are concerned. There was most certainly controversy surrounding those films at the time, and as @Fostena stated, it did split the fanbase as well.

Cody Steele

... ... ... I'll see you next week Nat. Happy Friday!

Steven Rose

@Brian Jones even mentioning characters that did not appear in the trailer is a spoiler. It doesn’t have to be plot related. Some people don’t like to know any details before going in to a new series or film. It’s not for you to decide. Also… you can’t just say something is laughable (expand your vocabulary btw) and claim it as fact and not opinion. Let’s not let the toxicity that the SW fan base is known for find it’s way on to these comment sections :)… smh

Paul G

not a million miles from my order.

Brian Jones

@Steven Rose How else would you describe something when it literally breaks the lore of the universe and people are calling it "well written"?? I'd say "laughable" is pretty appropriate. It's not "toxicity" at all.... It's pointing out why a show is the dumpster fire that it is.

John

Hux, not "Hugs." "How did the Death Star end up here?" They're on Endor. The Death Star in Return of the Jedi was destroyed in orbit - that's the debris. Go to Endor to find the wayfinder. Use the wayfinder to find Exegol. We don't see Leia's Jedi training in the films, but Luke does mention that he'll train her in Return of the Jedi when he reveals they're siblings.

Brian Jones

@RandomAndysChannel I'm not sure what relaxing has to do with it.... I personally find this conversation quite amusing. Who's treating it like "the end of the world"? I'm genuinely having a hard time taking it seriously at all.... :)

Brian Jones

It's not..... It's really, really not.🙄

simon.shoots

Theres a fan video by Heroes Fan Productions - The last Skywalker has clips from all the movies - better than the trilogy and it's 27minutes long, focuses on Kylo too // Would LOVE to see a reaction to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eQmk_GR59I

Darryl Low

Nat doesn't read that stuff before she watches shows, so I'm going to ask you nicely again, please delete that message, and the proceeding ones.

Steve J

The whole sequel trilogy comes across as one long brainstorming session. There are some good ideas in there but so many unconnected streams of consciousness plot points... At this point Disney is kinda stuck. They can't very well go forward in the story without trying to make sense of any of these plots, and all the plot backfilling they're doing in the D+ TV shows are up against a hard stop to get to whatever the state of the galaxy is at the beginning of Ep.7. We already know how it all ends so even though the Mandalorian/Boba Fett/Obi-wan/Ashoka/Andor/Acolyte/Lando shows might be all well and good, there are no stakes other than the nostalgia memberberries. At the end of the day, if the best case scenario review of a Star Wars sequel movie trilogy after 40 years of anticipation is that "It's not that bad" then what are we even doing (I know I know, making a bunch of shareholder money because at the end of the day it's a business first, but still)

Myles Away

Man I hope there is a scene where they get stuck in some quicksand but it drops them safely into a corridor below but the sand doesn't also follow and then a injured giant snake thing is healed by a previously unseen talent by a character, then the snake reveals a special dagger with directions on it, and it breaks a hole in the wall and shows them the way out. That'd be cool. But in all seriousness, Babu Frik is the best.

Nathan Smith

Well that’s just like, your opinion man

Josh Baker

@Brian Jones, what is wrong with you? Not only did you spoil some cool ass kenobi info we want in her reaction, but you clearly don’t even understand what a spoiler is! Delete your comments, and find somewhere else to spew your extremely unpopular opinions.

Josh Baker

@NAT’S MODS: THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THESE COMMENTS!!!

Aaron Taft

I can't download these anymore, what's happening?

Darryl Low

Thanks Josh. I'm glad somebody understands my point. That guy is a totally self-centred and selfish. Unfortunately at the moment Nat has no mods for Patreon, so we can only hope she skips over those comments. Here's hoping.

Byron

Hugs is better

Byron

Yeah. This was the first Star Wars film where I left the theater feeling absolutely nothing. It was a bunch of stuff that happens but there wasn’t really much emotional impact or stakes of any kind. I think Ryan George has a great comedy bit that sums things up nicely: https://youtu.be/b2zZFtq13c4

Zairan Brown

They weren’t on Endor. It was a moon in the Endor system as C3PO said.

Zairan Brown

I don’t understand why people think the cloning thing is dumb. The Sith has the cloning technology BECAUSE HE MADE THE CLONES IN THE CLONE WARS. SO THEY KNOW HOW TO CLONE. IT MAKES SENSE. And Leia being a Force User/Jedi was told in Empire Strikes Back or ROTJ (can’t remember which one) where Luke is talking to Leia and he says “There’s another Skywalker.” (or something like that) As dumb as I thought the scene in TLJ was, it makes sense. The Sequels are hated because the internet tells people to hate it. It’s a good trilogy. Maybe not the best. But they are good movies.

Well

....................really

John

Now that you've seen all of the sequel trilogy, you should watch this commentary on it... The Anti-Trilogy: https://youtu.be/XtArKawnWNI

ISeeTrees ofGreen

lmao i thought you said it was the only star wars story that you would watch a second time

Brian Jones

No, lol, it's not a spoiler you pedantic children. And no, I'm not going to delete the comment. It's public information, all over the internet, and publicly listed on the most prominent film sights on the planet. But JUST FOR YOU, I edited to put the word "spoilers" in because you seem to think that something that is widely known around the world, and you find out in the first moments of the series, is somehow going to "ruin the series" for Nat. You guys sound like 8 year olds.....lol

Brian Jones

Pacing was definitely a big issue for this film. Not that I hate it per say, but everything about it screams that it was a rushed production. Had they actually fleshed out the story a bit, included some further character development, and stretched it across a couple films it might have fared better.

Dooly

Maulers analysis is the best.

Josh Baker

Brian, I hope Nat removes your toxic ass from her page and blocks youZ you disgust me; learn how to be a decent human being

Troy

A few random thoughts: 1. I enjoyed the brief ASMR bit at the beginning, that was funny, and also kinda accurate. 2. I enjoyed this in theaters a lot more than I did watching it at home; the bigscreen spectacle made it somewhat more palatable, especially once I just accepted it as a rollercoaster ride finale full of references. 3. The thing you thought you should recognize was the medal that Chewie didn't get at the end of New Hope that has upset fans for years, so they put it in this movie even though as far as I know there was no reason for Maz Kanata to know (or care) that he never got one, as I'd never heard any in-universe character bring it up.

Troy

Also, now that you're caught up, I strongly advise watching "How It Should Have Ended: The Rise of Skywalker." It addresses some of the things you brought up, in an amusing way. (Also Pitch Meeting: Rise of Skywalker. But mostly HISHE.)

Brian Jones

You have a wonderful day as well Josh. :)

Brian Jones

@RandomAndysChannel You know what? I take back my original reply to you. @Josh Baker and @Darryl Low are actually treating this like it IS the "end of the world". :)

Kevin Bartelen

The return of Palpatine is easy to explain. Disney was adamant Kylo had to be redeemed because he was too marketable as toys and such. Then fuckwit Ryan Johnson threw out the only other villain just because fans wouldn't expect it. JJ Abrams therefor had 2 choices, he could create a whole new villain and try to make us care enough about him in this one movie, or bring back a dead villain that we already care about.

NobleSon32

Nat your expressions through out the movie were the exact same as mine. A lot of "What!," "Really?!," and "Oh so that's what we are doing..."

SquaredSpekz

The new General guy that killed Hux was Old Man Loki

SquaredSpekz

The Forest Moon of Endor is where the Ewoks are. The Big Ocean planet with the Death Star wreck IS Endor

Jules 4 Fools

So - when this movie came out, I was still working at a theatre and part of the perks was that you got to get free movie tickets at any of their branches. I'm really into movies and at the time, watched as many movies as I could, sometimes on multiple occasions. This - this was the movie I left actually feeling viscerally angry that all of the hopes I'd put into this - I mean - I love Star Wars, I have Lego sets, I have a light saber - but I cannot give Disney the satisfaction of even viewing this movie one more time. As a moving picture - there was just so much lacking here. Everyone in this movie is just paying the bills at this point. Just, top to bottom - an unfortunate cinematic failure of script and planning.

Steve J

spoilers for... this movie? I think that's the point of the comment section? I didn't see any other SW spoilers

Tiger Chu

My hope was having Rey be a clone with multiple Jedi DNA which would explain her ability to use the force so easily. But instead they had her being the granddaughter of Papa Palpatine which ruined it for me. There where some fun moments but overall, it was an absolute mess.

Brian Jones

@Steve J I believe they were attempting to tattle on me for making a comment earlier regarding my feelings about Obi Wan. It's in the comments around the beginning of the thread. Wow, they really went all out, even after I tried to appease them. No pleasing some people....lol..... Oh well. I think I called the ages about right. :)

Austin

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Carrie Fisher is in this movie through deleted scenes from the last two films, her daughter who has a small role gave her blessing, so they wrote scenes around the dialogue they had of Leia and digitally added her to those scenes. And it’s seen a few times in the original trilogy, mainly episodes 5 & 6 that Leia was sensitive to the force, being a Skywalker. Not my favorite film ever made but I didn’t hate this one.

calum1

my favourite of this trilogy by far. Personally i think they did a good job with the storytelling in this one, especially considering the calamity of a second film that they had to try and patch plot holes and idiotic decisions made by a different writing team in the 2nd film

Ian Rastall

Yes, there was also this sense that Disney didn't want to make it a priority. Which sucks. They have the capabilities to make great material now. For one thing, Star Wars basically invented going to the theater for the special effects. I mean, whatever the latest Star Wars film is is the one with the best effects. But there is a rushed, bored feeling, too.

Brian Jones

Pretty much nailed it at the end there. Disney doesn't look at this as anything other than a cash cow at this point. Obi Wan being a great example of extremely low effort, zero creativity, and awful storytelling. The only real direction forward, or out of this mess they have gotten themselves into, is to go way back to the old republic era, or jump forward past the sequels, and tell a new and original story that's removed from this Skywalker period they are so firmly cemented in. But sadly, much like Marvel at this point as well, the intention is cashing in quick and getting out over any kind of actual originality or good storytelling. The quality of their franchises are just slowly devolving by the show/film.

Brian Jones

Actually, I'd disagree with you a bit here. Disney wanted to make it TOO much of a priority. Sort of a ready, fire, aim scenario. After they had fired Colin Trevorrow, and while they were still severely reeling over the hit they took on TLJ and the way it split the fanbase, rather than waiting and getting their proverbial shit together, they plowed ahead anyway, stubborn not to change the release schedule. So the end result was elements from Trevorrow's draft mixed with JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy trying desperately to ham-fist a script together that tied up a trilogy while repairing what they felt were mistakes made in The Last Jedi. All on a VERY tight timeline. Everything about that spells disaster. But it also explains why there are a few good ideas littered throughout the film.

Keith Jacobsen

"Hon....can you Force-project me a Force-burrito a bit later? Thaaaaanks...."

Leetmouse

They bought JJ out of his contract with Paramount because they desperately needed someone to come back and fix the mess that the last movie left the storyline in with nowhere to go. JJ was also put in a bad situation with this film. If he didn't retcon enough of TLJ the people that hated EP8 would hate this movie. On the flip side, if JJ retconned any of TLJ, the people who loved EP8 would hate this movie. personally, if you ask me he didn't retcon enough of TLJ. On top of all of that, JJ was also having to fight Disney in regards to storyline because they were trying to appease both sides of the fanbase. From what I have seen, JJ's early artwork looked more interesting than the way this movie turned out. Daisy was also pissed that she trained really hard for a lightsaber fight scene between her and Palpatine that ended up getting cut out and rewritten. BTW, you can blame RJ for Palpating returning since he made the stupid decision to kill off the main antagonist in the second movie of the trilogy and since Kylo didn't pose enough of a threat to carry the final film as the main villain. The writers had to come up with a big bad for the final film and they couldn't pull another Sith lord out of thin air yet again the way they did Snoke in the first film. Is this movie perfect? no but it does a lot to try and fix the mistakes from the second film but it probably would have needed two more hours to correct everything.

Eve

She stopped putting up download links a few months ago when she got copyright strikes on there

Byron

People don’t appreciate how respectful it is to provide a character with a compelling arc with real stakes. Throwing away the light saber was the perfect way to quickly illustrate that he had reached the nadir in his character arc after kylo turned to the dark side under his tutelage, and give that part of the story actual consequences. If he valued it at that point in his arc, he would have still had it or gone to get it. It’s totally consistent with why he would go into hiding from his friends and family. That gives him a point from which he can regain his trust in himself and recover from losing his nephew to the Sith. Allowing him that kind of arc requires a lot of trust and respect for the character, rather than forcing him onto a pedestal for the sake of fan service.

Opti_Frog

LOL you must have done a double take 😄

Opti_Frog

Fostena, i can tell we are of the same mind. I could not take more than a couple of episodes of The Mandalorian S1, because i'm not on the nostalgia train.

Opti_Frog

"...my sister has it."

PrayTellCaesar

The original script from Colin Trevorrow was the sequel to tlj and as a fan of ep8, I would've loved to see that movie. Ep9 is definitely what you said. Kind of a production mess

jamie jones

The main antagonist was setup to be kylo ren. Bringing palpatine back because tlj killed snoke is stupid. Kylo running the first order is definitely a big enough threat but a certain part of the fandome like you demanded a repeat of the same and led an online back against tlj for daring to be different. They should of just ignored the cry babies who hated tlj and we couldve gotten a proper sequel instead of this trilogy ruining garbage called rise of skywalker.

Tay Schumaker

No dude you went out of your way to talk about characters that are in the show that were not widely known and appeared in no trailers or promotional material. I don’t care if they’re on IMDb. I am a huge fan and had no idea that character would be appearing, and pretty much every other reaction I’ve seen had no idea too. People usually aren’t scouring an IMDb page before watching. And what’s more you decided to be an ass about it for some reason and go out of your way to talk about how much you dislike the show. We get it, you’re very cool. Have you gotten enough attention yet?

John

That's what I was thinking.

Leetmouse

I loved what I saw from the Trevorrow artwork as well but IMO, that would have made an awesome second film in the trilogy.

John

I will say the cast did a great job with the material they were given. They also did a good job with Leia considering she died before filming and all of her scenes were unused footage from Last Jedi, augmented with CGI.

Leetmouse

JJ did not set Kylo up as the main antagonist, that was RJ's doing. It is one of the many things on a long list of plot points RJ ignored from the first film. nobody feared Kylo except Hux and even that was questionable at times. Like I said, he did not pose enough of a threat. About the only thing he did well was throw tantrums. TLJ as a stand alone film with different characters would have been a fine movie but NOT as the anchor point of a trilogy, especially when you ignore everything set up in the first film. If we had gotten a good writer on EP8, we would have had a good trilogy.

Brian Jones

@Tay Schumaker Nah, I'm pretty confident the only reason you're crying now is because you just didn't like hearing a negative opinion about the show. Especially considering the comment was amended and you're STILL crying about it. Which means I was right all along..... It had nothing to do with what you're perceiving as a spoiler (which is a hilarious notion to begin with), and that is actually just a big bait and switch with a very bad child actor, but more likely everything to do with people like yourself being butthurt because the show is a complete dumpster fire. Between them breaking canon twice, horrible acting, bad script writing, and a general failure overall to tell even a moderately sensible story, I don't blame you for being a little hurt. But don't blame me for pointing out the problems, blame Disney for causing them. Boba Fett was already a bit of a disaster. At this point both Marvel and Star Wars have become a case of "consume latest product regardless of quality" rather than something truly special. And they are both getting progressively worse by the release.

Leetmouse

So, without having first hand knowledge of how Palpatine was resurrected by his minions, how would you have worded it?

Ceruleo

@Brian Jones, how did they break canon twice?

Brian Jones

REAL SPOILERS.......... 1.) The Skywalker name being common knowledge among the inquisitors. That was a closely kept secret known only to the emperor, and only vaguely suspected by Thrawn and Tarkin. Had it been common knowledge, finding Luke would have been trivial and he would have been dead long before A New Hope. 2.) Leia having any personal interaction with Kenobi as she didn't know him at all in A New Hope and only speaks of him as being someone her father knew during the Clone Wars. 3.) IF the grand inquisitor is dead.... which given the nature of his wound he certainly should be.... that would also be a break in canon. But I'm sure Disney will magically weasel their way out of the third one. Considering how poorly the script is written for the show, they could pretty much do anything they want at this point without making it worse. Hell, common sense me is still wondering how Obi Wan goes from looking like Ewan McGregor to looking like Alec Guinness in 7 short years.... But given all the other problems with the script, that's just me nitpicking. :)

LionBro

You should watch 'Only Murders in the Building.' Only one season so far.

Ceruleo

Thanks for the reply. There was a Star Trek fan named Graham Kennedy that passed away a couple years ago, but I always think of something he wrote when it comes to continuity issues like these. “When I feel that people who care about the show they are making have made a genuine mistake because they are working under tremendous time and money pressures, I'll jump through hoops to try and explain things and have fun doing so. But when I feel that mistakes are being made because those in charge just couldn't care less about this aspect of their product and are largely contemptuous of those in their audience who do care, I see no reason to try and do their job for them.” I haven’t decided which side I consider Joby Harold because certain things, like the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi, turn me into Charlie Brown hoping Lucy lets me kick the ball. Spoilers. As for your complaints, in the likely event I decide that Mr. Harold doesn’t care, then they are spot on. In the unlikely event I decide Mr. Harold does seem to care then I could explain it away with: 1) Since the Grand Inquisitor was a temple guard and the other inquisitors were Padawans that turned to the dark side, if I remember correctly, they could have been kneeling off screen (off-projection?) in the holo that Obi-Wan watched in Ep. III. They would then know. Though it could be a secret kept from the empire as a whole and the imperial administration which is why Thrawn and Tarkin figure it out for themselves. 2) Obi-Wan introduces himself as Ben. I bet they do the annoying prequel thing of “you get to see the thing you like, but the characters won’t know so it doesn’t break continuity.” In her mind, Ben rescued her, she was sent to get Obi-Wan Kenobi, and she doesn’t put it together until Luke says “Ben Kenobi.” 3) He’ll be in a bacta tank or it’ll turn out the Grand Inquisitor from Rebels is a different guy of the same species, a brother or something. A First Brother. While I think that’s stupid, the Grand Inquisior’s face shape was bothering me so if we get a guy that looks more cartoon version, I’d actually be fine with that. Tatooine has two suns and life is hard there. I’m sure that’s enough to turn a 2022 version of a 51-year old actor into a 1977 version of a 63-year old actor in 7 years. I haven’t specifically paid for anything Star Wars related since The Last Jedi so it’s possible that my head-canon explanations could be out of date with subsequent books and comics.

Henri

I'd recommend giving the CinemaWins video on this movie a watch; it addresses a lot of the points you raised, and it might heighten your opinion of the movie in hindsight.

Allen

I love your content, Nat, but I can’t stomach another full viewing of this abomination even with someone as lovely as yourself.

Marty McGee

Roadhouse is freakin awesome!! Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliot as legendary uh bouncers!! Kick ass fighting. Or is it dancing? No, it's fighting. Jeff Healey playing the blues. Great lines like, "Pain don't hurt." The low stakes of a small town mafia. Man it don't get no better!! How dare you mention it with this movie. LOL

Brian Jones

@Ceruleo SPOILERS..........Oh I can think of quite a few ways to get around the issues with canon as well, but I can't think of one that would be very convincing or realistic narratively. And the Haja character refers to Ewan as Obi Wan directly in the presence of Leia, so nah, simply going with the "Ben" explanation doesn't work either. Short of some miracle Jedi mind-wipe it's going to be tough for them to write their way out of that box. Keeping him nameless WOULD have been the smarter move, but Disney has been devoid of making smart moves for quite some time now. While I appreciate your faint glimmer of optimism, I'm getting the feeling that Disney really could care less at this point. They seem to be more about "show the audience the thing", and then just cashing in on the member berries of it all rather than actually putting any real effort or creativity into their storytelling. Hence why we aren't leaving the Skywalker era behind. But hey, there are still mindless drones lapping it up because they think it's good entertainment, which sadly just means we are in for more of the same. Likewise with Marvel.... It's been nothing but downhill since Endgame for the film universe, and pretty much downhill since WandaVision for the TV shows. It all just shows a careless disregard for the audience. I think people saw that with the decline of the Star Wars films as well, but there's still a half a fanbase out there that just don't want to face the truth. Until Disney finally goes so far as to lose them I think we are doomed to a prolonged period of mediocrity. There's nostalgia done well, such as Top Gun: Maverick ( Spoilers for the kids above..... There are planes in it :), which I just got back from and can happily report did a really great job with the continuation of the story, and then there's nostalgia done horribly wrong, as it has been with Disney Star Wars, and currently there appears to be zero course correction in sight.

Martin7777

Brian, this is not the place for long rants and arguments.

Martin7777

It's not the wording. It's that the ultimate threat to the trilogy is one that was already defeated across the span of 6 movies, and then brought back with a two word explanation: some how.

Brian Jones

Martin... It's a comment section and we are discussing Star Wars. It's EXACTLY the place for long rants and arguments....lol

Nat !!

I think my main issue with this movie is that it's just clearly so reactive of the criticism that the Last Jedi got. The Last Jedi definitely has its issues, but overall I think it's an okay movie. At the very least, the ideas felt like they were the result of genuine creative thought from the writers. And I can respect that, irregardless of my personal feelings on it! At that point I think they should have just owned up to their decisions and moved on with the story with the material they had. The problem is... they didn't. The change in Rey's parentage was so clearly their attempt to win back fans who were upset with the reveal in the previous film. That's bad enough in my opinion, but then they just made it worse by making her a Palpatine with a flimsy explanation as to why that would even make sense. And I stand by the belief that Kylo Ren shouldn't have gotten a redemption arc. Not only did their whole relationship just feel like fanservice to me, but I think it made him a less interesting character. I actually like what the Last Jedi did with him, where he was a sympathetic character but ultimately still chose to be the villain. Redemption is a big theme in Star Wars, but for once I think it would have been cool for them to show that you can't redeem someone who doesn't want to be. It would have been much more heartbreaking for Rey to have to confront that reality when taking him down rather than just giving them a cliche and frankly awkward Romeo and Juliet-type ending. Idk I have a lot of thoughts about this movie and it's the one movie in this trilogy which I really cannot defend in the slightest.

Kris Nimitz

you're right, I also think if Nataly has the time, she should give "Strange New World" a try. But it's not up to me, Nataly if you read this, think about it ;)

Logan Kerlee

I big time support this idea! While Strange New Worlds isn't my favorite Star Trek show, having her jump into one sounds fantastic to me. :)

Chris Lane

This is only the second time watching this since I saw it in the theater and...yeah, it suffers from what the entire trilogy suffered from...no overall plan for the story. I didn't like TLJ but this swing in the complete opposite direction also didn't help. I also didn't get any romantic chemistry between Rey and Kylo....err Ben, so the kiss felt VERY forced and out of place. There was a lot of "forced" (no pun intended) things in this film, but it's a result of the rest of the trilogy not making sense. Especially when compared to the MCU which, admittedly after 28 films, etc. has had a FEW changes in direction with characters, but they had a plan that they have stuck with very successfully overall. Yes, they had previous comics to start with, but I don't think that excuses the Star Wars team (I'm not going to call out Kathleen Kennedy because I honestly can't say she bears all of the blame as many people try to pin everything on her).

Geoffrey T. Blackwell

This is the first time I've re-watched this since I saw it in theaters. It is as bad as I remembered.

Diego

Excited to see your thoughts and reactions to this movie! Personally, I loved this movie based on pure nostalgia and the callbacks from the previous movies! As a whole on these three movies alone, I would rate it my second favorite trilogy. So much potential we could of explored with characters such as Finn, Snoke, and Rey honestly. But in all fairness, the amount of awesome theories we had back then made us had super high expectations of these movies. Obviously having Palpatine as the main villain pulling the strings was a massive letdown and hoping to see a lightsaber showdown to go par on par with the Mustafar battle in Episode 3 was never given to us. As time goes on, my love for this trilogy has grown on me a lot!

Guy-on-Couch

Does this mean we don't have to hear you spew your nonsense on her coming Star Wars reactions? you know since you think they're dumpster fires? I mean why would you want to watch them again if they're so bad...I feel bad for you....nitpicking shit like this must be a horrible way to live...

Guy-on-Couch

someone that has a different opinion from yours doesn;t make them a mindless drone

Brian Jones

@Guy-on-Couch Some of you guys seem awfully bent out of shape over my "nonsense" and "nitpicking". I think it's more a case of your being in denial than anything else. :)

john collins

To me it seemed all three movies were made in hopes of pleasing the fans instead of telling a good story. I mean for this one alone they did things like add more of the force ghost things and even crazier powers for cool moments without real build up or reasoning, i mean some are a bit more established in the animated series and comics but only really big fans would know and care. They get in a few good light saber battles for the action fans but the audience knows ben and rey won't actually kill each other. And the ending was horrible, i mean they explained their whole crazy special force power in one sentence and no one would ever understand what it really meant if they're watching it for the first time. I'm glad they've done a great job with the live action series. I hope she watches them.

Michael Rockenfelder

Except Disney didn't say that at all. That was toxic fans spreading a rumor that literally has no base.

Michael Rockenfelder

I liked about 60% of the movie. Also, Leia was shown being able to tap into the force all the way back in ESB, not sure why it's such a problem for people that she's still doing it. Also, while I'm thinking about it, I guarantee about 75% of the stuff you/other people didn't like about this one can 100% be Attributed to Disney caving into the toxic side of the Fandom after TLJ. Those people got basically everything they wanted and *still* bitched about the movie.

Matthew Periolat

I’m biased, even if there is stuff I don’t exactly care for, this movie is just so much fun and actually a bit tear jerking at points (the Jedi Voices have gotten me every single time since theaters). I think the fairest criticism of the Sequel Trilogy is I am not convinced they had a clear vision from beginning to end, which leads to the unevenness. Either that or Carrie Fisher’s passing really threw things off. We’ll probably never know for sure. As for me, I’m content. Favorite of the Sequel Trilogy and I’m glad you had fun. But correct me if I am wrong, but there is still a movie missing - Solo. I personally really think you’ll enjoy it, but mileage may vary. And I do hope we will get to Kenobi and Boba Fett in the future.

LJ Mickey

I remember seeing this in theaters and not enjoying it that much. Now seeing it again I enjoyed it more. I know that hardcore star wars fans don't appreciate this and that is their opinion but I have to give credit to J.J Abrams trying to balance between doing fan service and at the same time creating new characters and stories. But you can't succeed everytime, especially with star wars and their toxic fanbase

warcrimes

thank god these trash movies are over

Ulrich Unterbrunner

Took me a while to find time to watch along, but I still enjoyed it and cringed on some of it. Let's see where we can find some information to the reaction. -) Calling for help, no one came and now everyone did: It was directed at the Outer-Rim in TLJ and only a signal. This time Lando went to the core systems in person. Being a celebrity and people-person sure did help as well as the threat of annihilation or total submission -) Grabbing something as a force ghost: Depends on the power. A Jedi becomes one with the force and is still able to manipulate and use it if he is powerful enough. So he grabbed the saber using the force and made it appear as if he used his hand. -) Kylo Ren "finally" overpowering Rey: Actually he was always the better swordsmen. Only when he was distracted (conflict over killing his father AND seriously wounded, his mother dying while stopping his hand) Rey stood a chance, but it was quite obvious that he was toying with her during the fight on the Death Star wreckage. -) Emperor cloning: Cloning itself is not new and also the ability of spirit transfer. Palpatine always had contingency plans in place if his rule was threatened. So the clones of him were probably already in place, when he died in ROTJ, but clones can not handle powerful force users, that are just transferred into them Avatar-style as they matured faster, not able to adapt naturally to the midi-chlorians. Not an issue with a clone-trooper, who has no force affinity, but otherwise the body decays fast. Using the ability of Rey to manipulate the force to create life and the connected essence of Kylo he was able to restore his clone body completely. -) Will he come back again: Probably not. He could transfer into another clone body, but all of them and his acolytes were destroyed, when he died. He could transfer into a weak body, but losing most of his powers while the new host would almost die instantly. He wanted to transfer into a body capable of handling his strenght, but in order to do so, the new host had to do it willingly (like doing the sacrifice). Rey did not kill him, but used the lightsaber against his lightnings (one to stop them, the second to basically store them) and her own power to deflect them back on him. So he killed himself. The cringe: The f***ing timeframes. The entire movie starts out with 16 hours of time left before the Final Order deploys. From there we go to Burning Man, to Kajimi, to Endor, to Exegol and amass a fleet of 50.000 starships from across the galaxy which then navigates the difficult and narrow path to Exegol. Which brings me to the (not) space battle. I know they tried to create an Avengers Endgame moment, but it fails. While Star Wars battles actually should be that massive, they have to be on a smaller scale to invest in the individual fates and to be able to follow them. Here it was like throwing a ton of Lego bricks into a room full of domino pieces. Meh. Aside from the opening shot, when the ships arrive to spot all the ones from other shows they put in the fleet I blinked the battle away. Story density was also way off the scale. It was like a whole trilogy cramped into one movie. A lot of side characters were apparently meant to have back-stories that should have been explored more to get a connection, but they got practically no screen-time. The fun: The main cast was good. They are all good actors and even when the story does not do them credit, they manage. Isaac and Boyega were fun together (and when solo) all the way through the trilogy. Ridley also did well, but apparently having a hard time with Reys "your parents are a mystery... no, they were no one... but only because they chose to"-storyline, but she had a good chemistry with Driver, who portrayed the conflicted son quite well. Art design was top notch, as always. Sound design also supported the movie very well. When Rey reached out to the second lightsaber when standing up against her grandfather and you hear it rotating through the air into her hand was a goosebump moment. You know exactly what is happening without seeing it. Music was not as good as in the other movies, because there were fewer new memorable pieces, but they tuned it down to give the sound effects more weight, which was a good choice.

Ulrich Unterbrunner

What space? The battle takes place in the atmosphere - stated at least twice.

SilverWolf

Ah, that was fun! It might not be the best movie ever, but your commentary brought me so much joy! Thank you for brightening my evening, stay golden!

Roland The Gunslinger

If you plan to watch the new Star Wars series like The Mandalorian I strongly recommend you to watch the Clone Wars Series first, at least. Love your reactions.

Lucas Bosgra

this is the best thing to come out of rise of skywalker, you're welcome

Richard Maurer

Roadhouse is a better movie........and I don't really like Roadhouse.

Richard Maurer

the worst for disliking a movie you like?

Richard Maurer

Episode 1 is LotR compared to this garbage.

Richard Maurer

I do wish Nat would watch The Hobbit films. While they are definitely not in the same league with LotR, they are a damn sight better than the sequel trilogy. Some parts, particularly the Smaug sequence, are quite well done.

Richard Maurer

Really? I never read any online stuff about any movie before I see it just so I won't be influenced. I hate these 3 movies.

Richard Maurer

At this point you can apparently do anything with the Force.

Richard Maurer

What Disney should have done is have someone who really understands and cares about Star Wars keep tighter reins on their Star Wars properties (ala Kevin Feige at Marvel) instead of just handing it off to a bunch of morons

Richard Maurer

Too bad Disney doesn't have the balls to do that. Although, considering how much money Disney spent for SW, they may have to grow a pair in the future. If they were smart, they would have their Disney+ series slowly precon (? is that the opposite of a retcon?) the sequels out of existence until they could make new movies based on the D+ series.

Richard Maurer

It's as if they noticed they had a small dumpster fire on their hands and started chucking cans of gasoline at it, somehow thinking they were cans of water.

Leetmouse

I blame Kathleen Kennedy for that one. You can hire different directors, that's fine but someone has to oversee the storyline and make sure it keeps a consistent flow across all three films.

MikeLL

I finally watched this reaction after waiting for a few weeks. I really enjoyed your reaction to Star Wars Ep 9 The Rise of the MacGuffins. I laughed out loud at several points. Very entertaining. My feelings about the movie is that they packed so many macguffins, plot twists, surprise cameos, and shocking revelations into this movie so quickly so that you literally didn't have time to realize how nonsensical it all was.

Richard Maurer

Spoilers are spoilers. Not liking a show is no excuse for spoilers, period
