Happy Feature Friday!!

This movie was so captivating! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this one in the comments below. Also yes, I did stupidly refer to Zoë Kravitz as Halle Berry for half the movie...I think my brain got confused with X-Men stuff when I saw Nicholas Hoult haha.

As always, thank you so much for your support here on Patreon and until the next one, ✨stay golden!✨

I freaking love this movie! this time around i was a bit emotional than the first time i seen it. Just a masterpiece! Also it was released in a theaters so I took my AirPods and listened to your reaction with on earbud lol. I watched it again the following night and as like “I can never get sick of this movie”

Kelvin

Best road trip

Gavin Day

As a fan of the Mad Max films I absolutely loved this movie, it went through production hell to finally get to the big screen

Darryl Low

Happy Fury Road Friday Nat 😊 Not seen this movie since it came out, so I'm excited to re-visit it with you. I'd forgotten how epic this movie was. The action is relentless, but never loses sight of the characters, and has real emotion to it too. And the score was just so good. "I'm not drinking alcohol, but I'll pretend" Yep, it's definitely that kind of movie Nat 😂 Hearing Ridley yelping away in dreamland was so funny. Thanks for another epic movie reaction today Nat, and as always, thanks for all your awesome work this week. It's been a ride. Have a great weekend 💛

RoadTripAdventuresWithAndrew

Now I definitly think you should check out the original trilogy. Those are good and this one is so good as well

Ben Wheeler

Watching in Black & Chrome this time around!

Night King01

One of the best action movies ever made. Also from the director of happy feet lol.

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 This is a great movie. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day & weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Night King01

How sad was every mad max fan in the theater when you see the interceptor get destroyed 3 minutes into the film.

Michael MacDonagh

Cool haven't seen this yet either. Both of them are in Xmen, Zoë was in First Class.

Katrina Lehto

Like what you like. Some of the best people I know are Burners.

jamie jones

Seeing as were starting with part 4 in the mad max series. Taking that precedence forward, You should skip the majority of the dceu and watch the suicide squad then peacemaker. Both absolutely incredible.

Robert Haynes

I dragged my wife to this movie when it first came out, and she rolled her eyes at me. When we were leaving the theater, she turned to me and said "we are going to see that again!" It's the only movie we've ever watched twice in the theaters.

Rich

What a lovely day!

Curaitis

Best Action Movie ever made, atleast imho and i cant wait for Furiosas Spin off Movie. Btw its a perfect example how to write and present a strong female Character. Nat, if you wanna know more about the making of i can suggest this to you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB1CoVl1kfw

XanderWhat

I would have assumed the Zoe Kravitz/Halle Barry mix-up was due to Catwoman 😀

Daniel Ketchum

Some trivia: Hardy and Theron hated each other.

Byron

Ooooooooo… this is gonna be funnnnn!

Byron

…at first. And hate is a strong word. They had a lot of animosity over their clashing styles, but by the end they were mostly ok with each other, and they both look back on it with ownership of their part in it.

Nautilus1492

Thank you Nat for this reaction! I was looking forward to it and frankly it was worth it 😄 This movie is just wow, visually it's impressive, and from the beginning the rhythm announces the color hahaha (so much tension and adrenaline haha), but the few moments of calm are very good, they allow to catch our breath and to dig the characters, and unlike many films in the genre, those scenes are not boring at all. And yeah, some moments/things in the film are disgusting and gruesome. I hope the other movies will get a chance, they are cool too! I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

MikeLL

Trivia: Which movie won the most Academy Awards for 2015? Mad Max: Fury Road, without winning any of the top line awards. It won for Film Editing, Hairstyle and Makeup, Costume Design, Production Design, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing.

oscar latorre

some say it was in part because hardy is a method actor and he wanna feel about theron same as maz about furiosa. In the end of the movie it seems they where doing ok.

Eve

About the editing, George Miller asked his wife Margaret Sixel to edit the movie. She didn't have any experience editing action movies. He said if any other guy would cut the film, it would just look like a typical action film. She had to cut and weave over 470 hours into a 120-minute movie. She went on to win an oscar for her editing work in the film.

Troy

About your Burning Man disclaimer at the start and you wondering about L.A.'s influence on your personality/attitude/etc.: 1. It's all good, most of us have been watching long enough to know what you're like and we're more than fine with it, presumably anyone who wasn't jumped ship long ago. It's part of the fun of your reactions. 2. Maybe part of it is from living in L.A., but so what? Most of us are to some degree influenced (and in some cases molded) by our environment/region/country/etc., so it makes perfect sense. I would expect similar regional differences from someone living on the coast of Newfoundland, or NYC.

Ilsuk Yang

Yeah, Halle Berry is a beautiful woman, but she doesn't look that young, Nat, lol. And that is indeed the actor from the X-Men movies (Nicholas Hoult who played young Beast). Glad you enjoyed this movie! It's an entertaining one for sure

Riolkin

This movie is crazy, and so well done. I hadn't seen it in several years so it was fun to sit down and watch this one with you. You said a lot of what I was going to say in the post-movie discussion so I won't rehash it, but I'm so glad you enjoyed the style of this film.

Dioskur

I love this movie and it seems you do too :) And no, you learn nothing from the other mad max movies. The only real connection is Max and even he is hardly recognizable. They are four movies that follow the same theme, but that's it. 90% of all the connections people see between these movies is realy just head-canon. The funny thing is, unlike most other movie franchises, the fanbase of MadMax can't unite behind one "best" movie. because they are all unique in a way.

Philip Davetas

Just so you know the spray paint in the mouth was a religious thing. At least that's what I understood about it. But MAD MAX as a franchise was always my favorite. As a child growing up it implanted so many of my core beliefs. Even when you're stripped to you core and barely any neccesities that there are still people out there that have virtues and willing for fight for others. And what I love about Mad Max as a character is that he's a warrior not a politician. That's prevalent in all the movies. Unfortunately or fortunately, this is the best of the franchise. The other movies are also excellent, but all the movies keep cranking up. It's just that FURY ROAD is the apex. Also, the reason why you noticed ADR is because the film had no script. It was just an office of storyboards, concept art. I think dialogue was added after they shot the movie to help the movie make more sense. This flick took 15 years to get off the ground. They even had the greenlight when Mel Gibson was still attached. They even build some of the cars. But when funding fell through, they melted them all down because WB wouldn't pay to transport them to Australia. But the making of this movie was just as harrowing as the movie looked. Also, FURIOSA just started filming this week. So, catch up on your guzzoline.

LJ Mickey

Fury road. Top 3 Best pure action movies of 2010s. Easily.

Allen

Nat, I’d really like to see your reaction to Everything, Everywhere, All at Once when it’s available for streaming! Best movie of the year imo, and given how much you enjoyed the Matrix and Turning Red, well it seems right up your alley!

Philip Davetas

I dig it when she comes up with nicknames for things. From art cars, Halle Berry to screaming planes (TIE fighters).

jamie jones

The road warrior is the best one

DMB

I could really tell how impressed you were with this one during your closing comments. I love Marvel and a lot of the popular movies you watch but I really hope we get more of these cinematic masterpieces. People focus so much on actor's performances but with this one the work of the whole crew creates something greater than the sum of its parts.

Henri

I'd love to see you react to Avatar (2009). One of my favorites, and the effects are out of this world for a thirteen year old movie.

Nathaniel Castle

Loved this reaction Smeg is a paticularly nasty bit of British slang that I personally love (being a Red Dwarf fan) The first mad max is a very interesting watch that I think you would enjoy Looking forward to the next one!

Xenic Mark

Boy they really deaged Halle Berry in this one 😂😂

Fostena

This movie is so good! I want to watch it again! Let's go

Jason Dolan

Yeah I do not even consider this movie canonically connected to the Mel Gibson trilogy. This is like the Ghostbusters 2016 version of Mad Max - not in quality, just in terms of it not really being part of the original trilogy's universe. It's almost like a nightmare that Mel Gibson has where he looks like Tom Hardy - that's the only way I can really describe this movie in terms of whether or not it is on the timeline of the original Miller films. I do recommend going back and watching the Original Trilogy. For my money, The Road Warrior is still the best Mad Max movie ever made.

Ben Wheeler

Isn’t she Catwoman in The Batman as well?

Connor Crout

Is there a place I can see where she watched this before I start it so I can have that service pulled up?

rhaegar

I don't think she posts it in the description but she usually says it toward the end of the intro what platform she's watching on. She said for this film she rented it on Amazon.

Kevin Mowery

An action movie that only the director of Babe could bring you! Really, though, this is maybe the best action movie ever made. I love the previous Mad Max movies, but this is George Miller with about 40 years more experience than when he made the first one, and it's amazing.

Mastervodo

Hey there Nat! Yes you! Hello You! I figured you would love this one as much for the lighting/sound/set/cinematography as for the acting and/or action. I had to watch it a few times with captions to get all of the "jargon" and twisted speak for these people in a world without schools and education. Unfortunately, the previous Mad Max films were not as EPIC as this one. But if you watch them, you will definitely see the roots of this film. It might be fun for you actually to watch the other films, and then re-watch this one to see how they differ. Love watching you react to these! Keep it up! (insert obligatory plug for Arcane)

jamie jones

Technically you could say none of the mad max films are canonically connected to each other. The only similarities are max and the wasteland. Therefore fury road is as much a sequel as any other mad max film. Only difference for fury road is max being recast which was done to keep him young.

Michael Cruse

Rather than a continuation of the original Mad Max trilogy, Fury Road is a reimagining of the second one. That one, "The Road Warrior", was the first rated R movie I saw in the theater without my parents (I was only 14, don't tell anyone) and it is great, it will always be one of my favorite films, but Fury Road takes it to a whole new level. Its just absolutely brilliant, and it keeps getting better every time I watch it. Thanks for sharing the experience :)

Jason Dolan

Fair point but they still all feel connected to me, the Mel Gibson ones - those movies believe it or not feel grounded compared to Fury Road which feels like a fantasy movie

Toy Soldier

For anyone with a VPN Mad Max is also on Netlfix in Canada.

Daniel Vezina

Let's go find, an over 30 years old Oasis in the middle of the desert, I'm pretty sure it's still there. Even if water is the most valuable commodity. It's sill there I'm telling you.

Patrick Toscano

There is also a black and white version (black and chrome edition) that gives the movie a more claustrophobic feel.

jose giron

We are not going to judge you for what you like Nat lol you like what you like that's it, never been to burning man but seems fun

George Baxter

Except the same actor appears as an enemy in the first movie and then the helicopter pilot in the second... In terms of the fantastical both are pretty out there. In the end who wants to see a realistic apocalypse?? It can only be depressingly mediocre.

George Baxter

Is that sarcasm? I have no idea how oasis' work... Do they dry up over the years?? This one seemed to just become toxic. But I'm willing to bet that if I dont know then Furiosa wouldn't either. She doesn't have even have access to the internet!

George Baxter

I thought the Cult comments were a little harsh. In a world where there are literally no other options why wouldn't you worship cars?? They are literally the only commodity these people have! Hope under those circumstance could only come from fantasy right?? honestly this film is the first time I've ever understood religion. They should probably worship water and womanhood... clearly the old ways aren't working too well here. On the other hand I do wonder if Furiosa will be able to sustain the population now that they've all stormed the Citadel at once... you'd think it would be a feeding frenzy. How do you explain to a desperate desert dweller to ration food??

jose giron

What I love most about this movie is that even though it has max name as a tittle I would argue its more of a furiosa movie than max, talk about a badass female character that just screams power and complexity, god I hope we get a full fledged franchise based on those women.

calum1

Absolutely love this movie, this movie is a great example of how cgi is not always better, most of the car action sequences in this film are practical and not created on a computer which is awesome. There’s a whole behind the scenes about this that i think you would enjoy watching on your own time.

Daniel Vezina

If she doesn't know how water preservation works, I'm surprise she lived that long then.

MightyHobo

Every time I rewatch Fury Road I find new things I missed. The movie is so dense. No scene is wasted and every moment is a city you can explore in an incredible world.

Jason Dolan

I mean they did that in Game of Thrones and it didn't bother me, replacing a significant actor with an actor who played a minor character in seasons prior. The Road Warrior for me will never be surpassed, but I do understand why this movie is so loved. But for me, I prefer the Original Trilogy, the first film is incredible independent cinema and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome's Tina Turner is just SO fun for me - it's just a really interesting film - it has this dirtiness to it like Time Bandits.

JarHead0351

Sorry I just don't all hipe about this movie Fury Road. Mad Max still king of the Mad Max series and the rest is a tie amoug the rest. It might just be most in this group are on the younger side of me and see this as I do with Mad Max. Just because I don't care for this one doesn't mean it isn't a good movie to another person

Geoffrey T. Blackwell

Totally unrelated: I think a reaction to The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the Eighth Dimension would be amazing.

Keith Jacobsen

This was a great reaction, Nat. I may watch it again too! PS Book of Eli is another excellent post-apocalyptic film, starring Denzel, Gary Oldman, and Mila Kunis, IF you wanted to add that to your list of possibilities. AVOID SPOILERS

Hugh Mungus

God I never get tired of watching this movie.

sarCC

lol rewatching this with you and, welp, this is the 3rd time I've watched this in 2 months time. Such a great summer blockbuster. I think this and Casablanca are the two most perfect movies I've ever seen.

Michael MacDonagh

Well they've both played Catwoman too. Zoë was much better at that, ha ha... No need to watch that one. It's like "show your rough work" for the comic book movies that we have today.

Logan Kerlee

I enjoyed this movie for the most part. Well, no, that's not fair. I really enjoyed this movie as a whole - just NOT as a Mad Max film. This movie was beautifully shot, much of the film was plain gorgeous. It was exciting and fun. Thrilling and scary at times. VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER. But it did NOT feel like Mad Max to me. This is after having watched Mad Max a good number of years ago. The setting was pretty okay but it wasn't Australia and that was a bummer for me.

crawlie

Lots of cool things about this movie. Main thing to me is that Max has essentially reverted to being a beast at the beginning. He talks about people being broken in different ways. His way is to become animalistic, a creature running on instinct - and that's reflected in Hardy's performance, barely speaking, rapid movements, completely selfish. By the end, he's reclaimed his name, helped others (literally giving his own blood) and become a man once more.

Yasin

I've seen this movie so many times! I laughed so hard at "Are we just driving the whole time?" What excitement! I enjoy this every rewatch. Some behind the reel talk, I've heard - They had a really tough tme shooting this film. I mean, like, supposedly Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy thought the project was gonna be atrocious and George Miller spent years editing the film so... they hadn't see the film in completion until the premier and were blown away by their own movie! Insane! So glad you liked this one! It's the absolute tops for me. Anyway... I live. I die. I live again. Witness me! and don't be a smeg who eats schlanger!

Andrew Zachman

I love this movie! However as great as is is you should really watch the originals, especially Mad Max and the Road Warrior. It is like watching the breakdown of society through the eyes of one man.

Chaz Mannington

Motor oil is bad for your skin. Also bad for your skin: radioactive wastelands

Edouard Suenson

I really don't get why people is so hyped about this movie, watched it and found it mhee... am I going to watch it again, yes ofc because it's a Nat reaction

Roook

This movie is so beautiful. The behind the scenes of the making of it is pretty crazy also. It was edited by Margaret Sixel, George Miller's wife, who doesn't typically edit action movies. So much footage was shot that when she started to edit it took 3 months just to watch it all. She put together a beautiful film and the Academy Award was well deserved.

abz

There's a great book on the making of this film, an oral history called Blood and Chrome. They pulled in artists from all over and built the cars in Australia. Before the shoot there was a flood and the desert bloomed flowers - so they decided to shoot in Africa, but the studio said no - a producer chartered a barge and sent all the cars to Africa anyhow without telling them. Then they set up a Burningman camp in the middle of the Namibian desert for like 200 days and shot the movie. This one is really special, glad you dig it!

abz

imo the Max films are legends of the wasteland - the timeline isn't canon, it's myth - so different faces and shifting tones make sense. The next movie is Furiosa, with a new actor, and that will be its own thing too.

Geoffrey of Monmouth

As some others have said, Max is more a legend than a person. He can't stay in one place, because legends can never remain--they always need to move on, help others. You can almost imagine campfire stories being told about this one or that one adventure of Mad Max. For what it's worth, you can probably watch the other 3 Mad Max movies on your own. 2 is the only really good one, 3 is more campy and fairly strange, and 1 isn't even a post-apocalypse movie--society hasn't completely collapsed yet.

Jomero

I think one of the best things I liked about this Mad Max movie, is the subversion that it isn't Mad Max's movie. It's Furiosa's.

Myles Away

Brilliant film. We won't see something at this scale for a very long time.

Ben Curran

1 is a good old Aussie movie 2 is the best imo, much more of an action movie this one is just "A Mad Max" film for me.. Just done in that style nothing very exciting.. After watching how much you enjoyed this you may not like the others as much. Us older generation who grew up with the first 2 didn't really enjoy this as much as at all ( at least amongst everyone my age I know ) I would say this ones a more cinematic modern movie.

warcrimes

Greatest action movie ever. George Miller just started shooting Furiosa, the sequel, after delays due to covid.

Kevin Mowery

I'm part of the older generation that grew up with the originals, and I think this one is a masterpiece.

jamie jones

Furiosa is a prequel and spin-off, not a sequel.

calum1

Nah man this is a fantastic film which was loved by both critics and audiences, you’re in an extremely small minority of people that don’t like this film.

That’s Not Acting

I'm with you. It's the name, I think. I would say it differently that you did. I would probably say that this ISN'T a Mad Max film. It's just a dystopian future film with unrealistically modified, weaponized cars that gives a nod to the Mad Max films.

Philip Davetas

Yeah, heard Charlize Theron isn't even in it.

jamie jones

Shes not. Shes too old. Anya taylor-joy was the recast.

Fostena

This one is the best in the series. The second Mad Max is the one that defined/cemented the genre, so I'd say that is important to watch as a piece of cinema history and pop culture (Fist of the North Star's setting IS Mad Max 2, basically). The other ones are not that great, honestly. I like them, though, mostly because of nostalgia

Cripkie

Im pretty sure its set in Australia. All the others were before this. Multi accents are common here. We are a refuge for the weary, many come here from many places to start again.

Cripkie

haha i havnt heard the slang "fang it' since i was a boy. The American equivalent would be pedal to the metal. A full-throttle type situation.

Cripkie

max isn't the protagonist and it works. Charlize plays the badass perfectly in this film.

Cripkie

shmeg is slang for dirt. shlanga is slang for, the "male member" I can see why Viking lore is prominent in this film. I can see after the fact that Aussie slang is very germanic/latin. But i guess actually it makes sense because all the Scot\tish and Irish were discarded here 200 years ago.

Foxyguava

"did this used to be an ocean" nah... it's just Australia on a regular day jkjk

My_Cousin_Mose

This movie is almost pure adrenaline and its awesome. The ending is dumb though. Max the man whose one instinct is to survive would not walk away from a utopia immediately after conquering it.

Cripkie

true....but its cool af

Powers209

Fang It! Floor it. Drive faster.

Alexander Steegon

After watching this reaction, I would really like to see her react to Pitch Black.

Pirateman

Seeing how much you liked this film just makes me want you to react to 'Babe'. George Miller's other masterpiece. It really is a masterpiece. I believe it was only a minor success in the US but I think it is a must watch.

Rory Sickles

"There is no together in this society. It's everyone for themselves" How often are you accidentally so wise/prophetic......? I'm genuinely curious.

Mannygogou

"...we who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves." My own interpretation of Max is that he's looking toward a higher purpose. He has not finished his quest and therefore in the end he turned around and would not be contained by the life in the Citadel which would be a life of rebuilding society. I believe Max at this time is done with society and all its failings. That is not where he looks to for solutions. The character of Max throughout the movie is very consistent in what he does and what he says. "If you do not fix what is broken... you'll just go insane." What is broken in this case? Society is broken. The society which consist of the Citadel, Bullet Farm and Gas Town. Furiosa seeks to escape to find "the green place" which is a place of myth, the better place. But there is no better place, the land in the next valley is not greener, "the green place" has long ago vanished. The solutions to problems is not outside, it is not escape. You have to fix where you are, you have to fix society where you are. Where you are is home, it is within it is not external. So Max rode fast to catch up to the party and to tell Furiosa where she must go and how she might find some sort of redemption. It is not easy to understand at first but home is The Citadel. That is the place to fix. "Where must we go?" Where does Max want to go? When he runs into groups of people they tend to capture him and he was just chained up and used as a blood bag. For his own reasons I feel that Max has turned his back on society long ago and now he wanders the wasteland... perhaps in search of his better self.
