huh. I watch everything i can with captions, but with Daredevil in particular, I also watch with the audio descriptions. The narrator reads off the captions in languages other than english, so I hadn't noticed. That captions issue must be a d+ thing, bc that never happened when these shows were on netflix

Good lord, streaming services seem to fuck up subtitles pretty often given how easy it should be to avoid it. Like, have one person look at them maybe.

The acting in this show is incredible, in particular Vincent D'Onofrio and Rosario Dawson were stellar in this episode. Really captivating every second they are on screen.

just one of the episodes that show why Kingpin is the best MCU villain...Showing him out on a date, showing him sincere and caring towards her...then finding out all the people there were plants to protect him, then the beating at the end...just amazing...and this is just the beginning :)

Wow, yeah, the subtitle issue IS annoying -- I'd have had a problem with that, too. (Now I'm wondering if I ever saw the Russian subtitles the first time I watched it...)

I hadn't noticed the subtitle thing before, but then I haven't watched this on Disney+ before and I don't remember if that was the case on Netflix. If everyone reports the issue to Disney, maybe they'll figure out how to fix it.

Ha ha! I just started binging this when you started watching it. When I watched this episode the first time (with subtitles like I always do as well) I thought it was a choice they made to not caption the foreign language sections. It was interesting. Even though you don't fully understand you can still get the gist of the conversations through the acting and editing. But no it's just a technical issue lol. This whole episode really tells you who Wilson Fisk is. Intense, emotional, vulnerable, and incredibly brutal. Very, very scary dude.

I've never felt Reactors should use close captions.. it leads to pre-empting the dialogue and disengaging from the scene. I hadn't realised Nat had been using close captions all this time. I guess its trickier when you are intentionally talking over dialogue. Tricky! Hope Nat enjoyed the episode regardless. Definitely prefer the intimidating Fisk. Honestly Hawkeye should have used him entirely differently. Or just revealed him in Ep 3. Have a scene where he intimidates Yelena, a character who we know is formidable. I cant even remember Kate's Mom's name! The TV shows have a bad habit with last minute reveals. The villain needs to be as prevalent as the hero for a final showdown to work. And I guess that wanted Fisk to fit in with the tracksuits but it just seems like a huge step down for him! He's the Kingpin!

It's a tough situation. I agree that subtitles lead to pre-empting the dialogue, but reactors also often miss vital dialogue without captions. It is actually pretty hard for most people to listen to and comprehend audio while speaking at the same time. Subtitles allow the reactor to provide commentary without missing as much. Nat still often misses things while she's talking even with subtitles lol.

Just a heads up, Nat. Turning subtitles on/off on Disney+ doesn't pause the episode :)

Phew! Watching through this again for the first time in years, I forgot about the car door decapitation. Sorry you had problems with the caption, but if you hadnt said anything at the start of the show I wouldn't have realized either so thanks for that. I'll be on a plane next Marvel Monday to visit family for a couple weeks, so I'll see you all in the comments next month as I get caught up!

Yeah, Disney desperately needs to re-do the captions, this was painful. I was flipping back and forth between captions and no captions too to try and follow. Plus side… you kept your head. 😈

I hate alcohol personally, but my understanding is that the reason people taste wine before having a glass is not regarding if you like the wine or not. Instead you taste to see if it is corked. If a wine is corked, it is supposed to taste horrible (and the whole bottle is ruined). So it really doesn't matter who tries it first.

In Into The Spider-Verse his dead wife was Vanessa, this woman is Vanessa. I don't know if she dies in the comics, or just that movie but it's the same woman regardless.

Really enjoying this rewatch with you, Nat. My reccomendation for viewings is DD Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 1, Luke Cage Season 1, DD Season 2, Defenders (only 1 series) and DD Season 3. And you're done, lol. You will enjoy how they all link together, you can skip Iron Fist, not too good.

Yeah I tried it yesterday to be sure and it doesn't pause. Some other streaming services do, so I understand the caution. I think HBOMax pauses and she streams from there a lot as well.

It depends on the comic. Originally she suffers from brain damage only. In other issues she is killed but in other issues she is alive and well in Japan. I personally like the stories where she has brain damage and you see Kingpin be just the wee bit human.

A fitting reaction to that final scene! Fisk is such an interesting character. A lot of good comments by you and others above. I thought I might add one thing - even when Fisk lets his emotions overcome him, he immediately masters himself afterwards. He's clearly considered what he's going to do, and what the next steps are. What I took from this is that Fisk has immense self control - and has allowed himself this vindictive murder because it also furthers his plans.

No, in the comics shes kidnapped from japan. Then later shes becomes amnesiac and mentally unstable . And eventually she dies and remains dead.

The only streaming platform I've ever had issues with subtitles with. Turned them on once, now they show up on everything I watch and I have to manually turn them back off each time. Dis+ deffo has some weird subtitle issues going on

No.... They aren't going to censor an existing show. Especially one that established. But I'll bet they tame it greatly once it becomes a Disney product they advertise. I'll gladly put up a dollar that any Disney DD show going forward won't be remotely as graphic. Again, how cartoonish they got with Fisk in Hawkeye is a perfect example. And while Deadpool WAS (past tense) "confirmed" to be R, I won't be surprised in the slightest if they tame it. Considering how awful the writing is on the Kenobi show, and how half-assed most of the Marvel shows have been to date, I don't have any faith in this company going forward regarding much of anything..... ESPECIALLY keeping the tone of these properties adult.

Oh, I love Punisher, deeply. As a vet and a film buff. And here's the thing, the most brutal parts of DDS1 are the bad guys, and she's gotta steel herself for those scenes. What happens when those kinds of scenes are doled out by the protagonist and she has to say "oh, that's rough, i don't think i can handle this"? Make no mistake, I hope everyone who watches Punisher loves it as much as I do. And also, I believe Nat might grow to feel uneasy about it. I just don't wanna watch her feel that way about a show I love.

That intro was actually pretty helpful, i originally watched these on Netflix, but now watching them on Disney+ i also had the subtitles turned on and was wondering if there just never were any subtitles for the other languages.
