Happy Wednesday, Natalie! 😊 This was a good episode. However, I've always felt that the chase scene with Obi-Wan trying to get to Leia and Reva going after Obi-Wan all at the same time could've been either filmed or edited a little better. But all in all, it was a good episode. Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job portraying Obi-Wan's emotions when he found out that Anakin/Vader was still alive. And during that last few seconds of the episode marked Hayden Christensen's return as Darth Vader. And Fun Fact: The girl who tried to sell the spice to Obi-Wan is Ewan McGregor's real-life daughter. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Ben Wheeler

1. John Williams was kind enough to come back and compose the Obi Wan theme 2. The veteran was a clone—storm troopers are not. It was the same actor who played Jango Fett, all the clones in the films, and Boba Fett in Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett 3. The pink-haired girl who gave Obi Wan the spice was actually Ewan MacGregor’s daughter 4. The leader of the kidnappers was Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and also had a part in Back to the Future 5. The Inquisitors hunt Jedi under the supervision of Vader and were introduced in the Rebels show

Philippe Dessaints

I cannot wait for the rest of your reactions to Obi wan. For me, the series is in no way perfect, and it does have its silly or boring moments, but man am I glad to see Ewan and Hayden in their respective roles again. I always think that Ewan's acting throughout the series is god tier and carried it hard for me

Philippe Dessaints

Also the part where they fuck the operation up because of their pride. Yep that's the way of the sith (or dark force users in this case) for ya since the old republic haha !

Degenerick

If you really wanna know what the inquisitors are, watch rebels. Its a really good show despite being animated

Andy Jordan

In Episode III, Obi-Wan left Anakin for dead on Mustafar, and when Anakin caught fire, Obi-Wan left, not wanting to watch him die, but assumed there was no way Anakin could survive. So he spent the last ten years thinking Anakin was dead.

Jayson Phillips

The girl that tried to sell Obi drugs was Ewan's daughter irl

Jayson Phillips

The only way to understand Inquisitors is to watch Star Wars Rebels

Omni Jacala

To give a bit more context to the storm trooper vs clone trooper thing, as it seems to be a pretty common misconception among star wars viewers who are on the more casual side and haven't watched a lot of the animated stuff: The creation of the clone army was commissioned by the republic (part of palpatine's plot), but after the Republic became the Empire in ep 3, they phased out the use of clones and switched to conscripts. Which is why people like Bill Burr's character in The Mandalorian aren't clones of Jango Fett. This transition is touched upon in the animated series The Bad Batch, which fleshes out the aftermath of Order 66 and follows a group of non-conformant clone troopers who were trying to essentially find their place in the new era of the empire.

Darryl Low

I thought your thumbnail reaction may have been during the fake Jedi scene, but it was for Leia's grandpa quip 😄 I'd be useless for a police line-up. Imagine not noticing that your microphone was gone in your previous 2 videos 🤦‍♂️😊 Your audio certainly sounds good, but the true test will come with Stranger Things 😄 I loved the location for this episode. Star Wars always does world building so well. Thanks for another fun reaction today Nat. Your "brute Force" gag hit the mark, and yes picking up Leia and carrying her would definitely be quicker 😄💛

J.C.G.

Really great acting across the board in the series. If there is a more talented young actor than Vivien Lyra Blair at her age, I have yet to see them. I loved the scene in the first episode where Ewan was watching Luke pretend to pilot, that look on Obi-wan's face had just a hint of dread to it, Luke being so similar to Anakin at that same age.

Nautilus1492

Hi Nat, and thanks for this new funny reaction 😄 The show has several defaults but at the end it's ok, and give a cheesy side as SW can do since the beginning hahahaha (Leia is running so "fast" 😛) If the animated SW series were really shorter, I would have recommended them to understand better the things but it will be endless hahahaha I can't wait for the following reactions! I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Rich House

Doesn't Obi-Wan watch Palpatine name Anakin as Lord Vadar in Revenge of the Sith, and then Yoda tells him Anakin is gone consumed by Darth Vadar? Only a casual Star Wars fan so might be missing something, but given the inquisitors are seen visiting Tatooine in the previous episode (I assume not for the first time, maybe not?) and they are directly working under Vadar you'd think he should be known of on the planet and Obi-Wan would put 2 and 2 together within the last 10 years.

John Bates

Bail, Obi-Wan, and Yoda knew that Anakin was Darth Vader. What Obi-Wan didn’t know was that Vader survived the duel of Mustafar.

Marty McGee

Hey Nat! Yeah the chase scenes are pretty cheesy and unbelievable. The one here wasn't quite as bad as the first, other than the moment she was a foot away and Obi-Wan could have literally reached out and grabbed her. It kind of takes you out of the story, but it's just one of those things. Love your reactions to this show. Yes. Reva is the absolute worst. It's a little far-fetched that even while hiding Obi-Wan never heard news of Vader. After all, he did see the holo of Palpatine calling Anakin Vader so he would've known his identity. But, it makes for a nice reveal and gives Ewan a great acting moment so I can forgive it. People tend to expect perfection out of Star Wars. But out of 11 movies (which are the most mainstream products) only 2 in my opinion could be considered great all-around. The rest are fun popcorn movies but not exactly the pinnacle of cinematic storytelling. So, I've learned to try and watch for fun. You know what? I'm a lot happier with Star Wars that way.

Dominik

Funny thing is, that the girl who plays the spice dealer is actually ewans daugther

Kevin Mowery

Yeah, the chase scenes with Leia are some of the weaker parts of the story. I think they should have, and maybe there's some technical reason they didn't, make the woods, the rooftops, etc. be more crowded and cluttered so that Leia being tiny and able to duck through tight spaces would be why people have a hard time catching her. The actress really isn't much of a runner.

Bou Sculpts

Natalie is pointing out some valid criticism on the series, but some Star Wars fans will say you're just a hater for doing so. There is some legit critisism to be done about this series, but between the "it's crap, Disney ruins everything" and the "it's perfect, flawless, if you don't like it, don't watch it" there is not much room for reasonable discussions. Looks like either you love it or you hate it. For me the dissapointment comes from expectations, I'm fully aware of that. Obi Wan should have been the series in which Disney throws it out of the park, and there are some weak spots that you could expect in a new series, for a new character, that really hurt and stand out when dealing with such a beloved character.

PandaLeHey

This show tries to do a lot for six episodes. I also don’t get what the fans are expecting aside from nostalgia. You know obiwan isn’t dying anytime soon.

Florian Hoyer

thats an old CLONETROOPER not stormtrooper u basicly had no army before the clones

Corissa K

Animation is a valid form of story telling and does not inherently mean that the piece of media is any less than live action just because it is animated. Clone Wars and Rebels are the strongest pieces of work in SW as of the last 10-15 years, with the only live action exception being maybe the Mandalorian. There is no “despite being animated”.

Degenerick

I KNOW THAT. but i also know alot of people downplay shows because they are animated

Florian Hoyer

the reason she runs slowly and he doesnt have his hoddie up are very simple ... its cinematic reasons ... her running fast as shit would just not look as good on camera. thats movie rules that needs to be accepted xD

Florian Hoyer

i also dont see the point of having a "worse" visual to have someone run fast thats not look good on camera in a star wars where nothing is believable anyway xD better this way then i always find it a bit funny when people want realism in STAR WARS xD its not scifi its fantasy

PandaLeHey

I figure for safety reason you don’t want the kid to trip and bust their head so make the set less crowded.

jamie jones

Or play jedi fallen order

Daniel McGuinness

Natttt! That veteran begging for change WAS a clone trooper! Even played by the same actor from the prequels who plays boba fett, Temuera Morrison! 😅 Also, Obi-Wan knew that Anakin was Lord Vader, he just didn’t know that he had survived after Obi-Wan left him to die on Mustafar. Keep up the great work ❤️✨

collegeguy6377

You probably got 30,000 comments saying this, but the Inquisitors are established in other forms of media. Essentially, they're Vader's Jedi hunters

John

I don't know how Obi-Wan couldn't know Anakin was still alive. He knew Anakin was Vader in Revenge of the Sith.

J.C.G.

I think the issue is that one could assume Darth Vader was a 'household name' in the fledgling days of the Empire. I always figured that Vader was more the right hand enforcer and head of what was arguably the secret police for Palpatine. Those at the upper levels, like Leia when she was a Galactic Senator, would know, but not the common person on the street. Add that to Tattooine being far outside what would be considered the Empire proper, it can make sense that while Obi-wan does know who Darth Vader 'was', he wouldn't be aware that Darth Vader had survived Mustafar, and was himself part of the Empire's efforts to hunt down Jedi and other dissidents.

Kat Fender

He did know Anakin was Vader, but I believe what we're meant to infer is that he didn't know Anakin survived Mustafar. It's feasible he cut himself off from the wider reaches of the Force and went into hiding before he would have learned Anakin survived. And that in his solitude that he wouldn't have heard of Vader's exploits at all.

Keith Jacobsen

When Nat was juuuuust about to fall for the fake Jedi's shtick I was thinking, "Oh, you sweet summer child, stay away from the shell game, that's a trick too, Nat!"

J.C.G.

The action sequences with young Leia are by far the weakest aspect of the show for me, but to your point, some different editing decisions may have made a difference, cutting the henchmen running into the tree, or the quick overhead shot of Obi chasing Leia may have helped, but I will gladly sacrifice a bit more effort to suspend disbelief to have that actor play as amazingly as she does in the rest of her scenes.

J.C.G.

Just curious Bou, did you grow up with the original trilogy, or with the prequel trilogy? I have seen several state that Obi-wan is a beloved character to them, and I haven't felt that same level of attachment, and I grew up with just the original trilogy, and wonder if there is a correlation

John

Palpatine was the leader of the Empire and Vader was his apprentice. It seems unlikely that would be any kind of secret, especially 10 years after the fall of the Republic. But Ben being that out of touch on Tattooine is the only possible explanation.

NobleSon32

About the "Old Vet" Clone Troopers age very quickly. It was how they could produce them so quickly. That was a 501st clone marked out by the blue on his suit. The 501st was Anakin's battalion, as well as, the Battalion responasable for the erridacation of all the Jedi in the Temple at Corrasaunt. Including the younglings.

Philip De Leon

As others mentioned, Obi Wan knew that Anakin was Darth Vader (he saw a holo of him being called that by the Emperor in Revenge of the Sith), but he thought he left him to die by the Lava on Mustafar. He was in deep hiding on Tatooine so he didn't hear anything about Vader after that.

Riolkin

I think this is an instant of "correlation is not causation". I "grew up" with the prequels (i saw the originals first but i was a kid when the preqels came in theaters so i liked them more at that age) and have always loved Ewan's portrayal of Obi-Wan and held the character in very high regard. However, my mom grew up with the original trilogy and Obi-Wan was always her favorite. She loves the Mentor character archetype.

jamie jones

Plus tatooine isnt a part of the empire, its a secluded out rim planet so obiwan not hearing about vader is plausible

Brian Jones

"There is some legit critisism to be done about this series" Countless. Hence why you have the "this show is shit" crowd. And you can certainly count me among that crowd. I was happily on board with The Mandalorian, but this show was literal dogshit. I could give you a laundry list of issues from the first two episodes alone. I take it Nat is now pointing some of them out, and the people who liked the series regardless are now attempting to cover for them? Had a feeling this would happen. This is what happens when you have subpar writers at the helm. I mean, the show was flawed from episode one onward based on the premise alone. Obi-Wan, a man who's life oath it is to protect Luke throughout his entire childhood, decides to completely blow off his oath and go on an interplanetary romp with Leia while there are inquisitors already scouring Tatooine for Jedi, and even worse have directly threatened uncle Owen? That alone is a completely botched and nonsensical premise. Never mind questions such as, why would Obi-Wan allow himself to become disconnected or weak with the force, or bury his lightsabers in the desert if he was going to protect Luke at all?? How did he plan on protecting the boy if an incident even did happen?? The use of harsh language?? How is it that Obi-Wan doesn't know Anakin, or Vader rather, is alive?? The empire has been ruling the galaxy for 10 or so years at this point, and there is clear imperial control on Tatooine. They have a holonet (so they get the damn news and propaganda), and a very active spaceport. Everyone is aware of who and what the inquisitors are, so they would have bound to have heard of Vader by now. These are planetary sized holes in the very foundation of the story. And that's JUST the premise of the show. There are countless other things throughout that make as little to no sense whatsoever. Why is a 10 year old Leia, who runs like a 5 year old toddler, able to magically elude a group of kidnappers and a Jedi in a Benny Hill style chase of absurdity?? Why is her character as smart, quippy, and wise as an adult Leia at the age of 10?? You see, this is what happens when idiots write shows. Or at the very least, people who weren't fans to begin with, or didn't know or understand the lore and character motivations. Or hell, even basic storytelling.

Brian Jones

Fans wanted a show that at least made sense. This clearly didn't.🤷

Brian Jones

This is attempting to explain away the obvious plot holes. The people on Tatooine clearly know who the inquisitors are, they all express fear when they see them, and the empire has been running the galaxy for roughly 10 years at this point. Tatooine is already under imperial rule. It's not like Tatooine is completely cut off from the holonet. They do get the news....lol.... They have a spaceport with a constant array of "scum and villainy" cycling through. There is literally no conceivable way that Obi-Wan wouldn't have heard about Vader at this point. Just more shit writing.

Rich House

I can't recall anything in the show that really let her shine as an actor. I think she did well for what she was given but in recent releases I'd put Mia Sinclairs voice work in Arcane so far ahead of it it's not even close to me.

J.C.G.

I will certainly look for her performance, once the bad tasted of toxic Arcane fans leaves my mouth. I would say a 16 year old actress would be in a different 'weight-class' as it were, but thanks for the heads up.

Rich House

I believe she was 11 when she did her voice work for the show. Arcane spent a long time in production getting things right. Kind of sick of hearing Arcane fans labelled as toxic, if you want to label a fanbase by a few bad actors by Disneys own words apparently the Star Wars fans are racist. I wouldn't cloud a whole fanbase with that, and I wouldn't let that influence my opinion of the show either.

Jake w

Natalie please don't burn yourself out for our sake! We all love you and want you happy and healthy :)

PandaLeHey

Idk what you mean by made sense. It made zero sense to me to make an obiwan show in the first place. To avoid all the grievances from fans would be “and obiwan meditated for 20 years”. But then everyone demanded for an obiwan show. And the show was fine/ok. I got some complaints but I’m fine with it.

Daniel Ketchum

They really needed to find a little girl actor who could run faster

Brian Jones

I agree that they never should have done the show at all. They honestly never should have touched any of the legacy characters. They either have writers that don't know the universe, or just don't care about the basic logic or character arcs that have already been defined within it. But since they did, and since you asked, I'll just copy paste this so I don't have to type it all out again. And this is just SOME of my grievances from the first two episodes alone. Everyone is aware of who and what the inquisitors are, and who is running the galaxy, so they would have bound to have heard of Vader by now. If they had any brains or powers of forethought at all, and especially considering how much they love screwing with (screwing up) the legacy characters, they would have made Leia a more believable 10 year old with room for actual growth. Then they could have gone on to screw up a Leia spinoff. Which knowing Disney, they will probably attempt to do anyway. :)

Brian Jones

Yes, it most certainly is a plot hole. A giant gaping one (among many). And yes, of course they would know who's running the galaxy. The emperor and his right hand man Vader would have been very well known throughout the entire galaxy at this point. The empire was broadcasting propaganda on the holonet from the very beginning of their takeover. That's a decade of propaganda that's been fed to the entire galaxy. Never mind a bustling spaceport. It would basically be the equivalent of you not knowing who Vladimir Putin is.😂 As I said above, this is what happens when people are either too ignorant, or too lazy, to have at least known the lore and characters well enough to be writing a show.🤦

Philip De Leon

Brian - The whole last season of Rebels shows that Vader wasn't a commonly known figure even within the budding Rebellion who you'd think would be "in the know" more than an out of touch hermit. And that was five years after the events of Obi-Wan. Half the time they're trying to figure out who this "Dark Figure" or Sith Lord is. So I'd watch out who you're calling too lazy ignorant or "to have at least known the lore".

Rich House

Only a very casual Star Wars fan, but given how this series ends to me it seems the budding Rebellion not knowing who Vadar is 5 years after the events of Obi-Wan makes less sense than the idea Obi-Wan wouldn't know Vadar is still alive by the time this series takes place. But I never watched Rebels so know nothing about where it is based or who is involved or really any knowledge of how news would travel in the Star Wars universe so I assume there's more explanation for that?

Brian Jones

@Philip De Leon - Neither of them make sense. The holonet, which has been established in lore since the OT would have been broadcasting imperial propaganda ever since Palpatine took power post RotS. Never mind all of the backchannels and pirated rebel communications. And Vader would have almost certainly been featured in said propaganda as he was the emperors right hand man. He was never a secret, only his identity was (well, apparently until this show came around, now apparently everyone knows he's Anakin). And he certainly wasn't dormant for a decade. That's why this conversation is kind of ridiculous, and it's a huge plot hole in a show written by people who never bothered to think things like this through. And it's just one of an endless list of logical inconsistencies littered throughout the episodes.

Rich House

Not exactly mastered how to disagree with people in a way that doesn't kill all discussion have you Brian. Why do you feel the need to comment so much just to tell people how much you hate a show they like? There doesn't seem to be any good faith intention to engage with what they might respond to you with.

Brian Jones

@Rich House - No one is forcing you to read it, or comment on it for that matter Rich. But others have, and I've responded to them. From the sound of your comment, "good faith" sounds like "only say things people agree with". Sorry, that's not my style when it's fact or even opinion based dialogue. Do you normally just blindly agree with whoever you're talking to despite how you feel about a topic?

Rich House

I think you can comment a disagreement in a way that isn't pandering but also isn't insulting. Maybe you'd consider devolving into arguing over viewer statistics or a random youtubers personal biases a success when it comes to commenting on things, but if I can have a pleasant discussion with people and respect their opinion even if I still disagree I'm a lot happier.

Brian Jones

@Rich House - The only reason you would think one of my comments was "insulting" is if you were taking a comment regarding details about the show personally, or taking my opinion about the show personally. I can't control that Rich. And since I haven't in any way personally insulted anyone specifically (other than the writers of this show, who clearly deserved it:), and certainly not for their like, love, or hate for the show, I think we're in the clear Rich.👍

Daniel Vezina

NO ONE beside the Emperor, Yoda and Obi knows That Anakin is Vader. If anyone would even suspect that's him under the helmet, he would hunt them kill their family and spread salt on their grave. Not even Tarkin nor Thrawn knows who's under the helmet. Specially not a force user working for him. The 3rd sister would had been chop to piece as soon as she started her Inquisitor training.

Rich House

Could you do me just a small favour Brian and list 3 things you legitimately liked from the first 2 episodes, bring some balance if you will.

Trish Murphy

I’m so psyched you’ve started Obi. Young Leia is perfect casting & well written but I agree about her slow running. I have a few overall issues but I’m so happy that they’ve brought Obi back. 🤞 for s2

Brian Jones

@Rich House - No Rich, I can't. For the very simple reason that there aren't things I legitimately liked about the first two episodes of this show. The question you should really be asking yourself here, is why you personally need my opinion of the show to align with yours to validate your own. "bring some balance if you will" That would be exactly what my contrarian opinion in this comment section does Rich. :)

Brian Jones

@Luis Santos - "So you would rather believe sidious and Vader are out there making propaganda videos telling people who they are and why they should follow them rather then believe a hermit not knowing one person in a galaxy of people is alive?" Firstly, yes, it's established lore that the empire seized the holonet when they took control of the galaxy and it was essentially used as a state propaganda network. So a decade of nothing but state propaganda TV, doing nothing but highlighting the achievements and leaders of the empire, crammed down the throat of the galaxy. Now that you have a picture of what the entire galaxy was being force-fed, you're saying that over a 10 year period Obi-Wan never went to town, overheard coworkers discussing it, interacted with travelers or heard rumors, or even interacted with the public at all? The same Obi-Wan that was supposedly looking out for Luke wouldn't keep his ear to the ground? Hell, you see him do everything I just listed in the brief time the show spans. So yeah, I'm thinking it's a pretty ridiculous notion that he wouldn't have heard any news regarding the supreme leader of the galaxy and his right hand man over the period of a decade.😂 But hey, maybe you're all right ( here's that favorable view Rich :). Through completely nonsensical and illogical writing, Disney has reinvented Obi-Wan as the most incompetent and inept protector ever. So I guess it's entirely possible the guy who's life oath it was to protect Luke, who's also idiotic enough to close himself off from the force, bury his lightsabers in the desert, and basically assure he was in no shape to actually do the job if an incident actually did occur, was also so derelict in his duties as to not keep an ear to the ground regarding the very people he would have been worried about. And now (tripling down on stupid and leaving Luke completely and utterly defenseless) he's willing to go on an interplanetary romp with Leia while knowing inquisitors are currently scouring Tatooine specifically looking for Jedi and have directly threatened uncle Owen. So considering his gross incompetence in his duties and his completely shit skills as a guardian and protector, maybe he was just wearing a set of molded earplugs for a decade as well.🤷 Oh yeah, sure, that's a totally plausible scenario.😂🤣😂🤣 "Just because something isn’t explained doesn’t mean it is a plot hole." When it directly and completely contradicts the actions and motivations of a main character who was previously established as something entirely the opposite, and no good explanation is given, yes, THAT is a plot hole.🤦 "It’s no wonder they say no one hates Star Wars more than Star Wars “fans” because they argue over points like this." It's quite the opposite Luis. People who are fans of something DO discuss, debate, and quibble over things like this. They DO examine the minutia of it. They DO point out inconsistencies and contradictions in lore. That is EXACTLY what fans do. Fans have debated such topics since fandom was a thing. Especially when it appears the new owner of said IP is going out of their way to run it into the ground, and clearly doesn't even understand the characters or stories they are inventing or attempting to tell. THAT is what being a real fan of something is all about. It's about longing for it to be as good as it can be, and criticizing and ridiculing the shit out of it when it isn't. Ever spend time in a comic book shop Luis? Ever argue over a Dungeons and Dragons or table top game table regarding vague rules or character alignment? Ever hotly debate the offscreen or unknown details of a beloved character or object in a film? That is the very essence of fandom.😂🤦 It's the casual, or fair-weather fan who nonchalantly blows it all off and says "meh, it's fine", or says "OH LOOK, HE DID THE THING!!!" without understanding why THE THING is so important. Or, more relatable to this scenario, creates shows and writes books that completely contradict the lore and history of an established franchise. That's usually the very first sign that a person isn't a fan at all, and more likely going out of their way to prey on a fandom for the almighty dollar with complete disregard to quality. Thanks for bringing that up, as it's a very relevant and relatable topic given this thread, this show, and the way Disney has treated this IP. You might want to give it a thought or two.🤔

Brian Jones

No, it's again a case of shit writing and poor staging and direction. And in the case of the kidnappers, poor editing as the scene went on entirely too long. This entire thing could be solved by simply creating an obstacle (narrow alley, small pipe or tiny crawlspace or airduct that would only fit a child, etc.) that would have allowed Leia to evade her pursuers in a way that was even remotely believable or convincing. But nope, fuck it, this is Disney Star Wars, where incompetence and stupidity in story creation and development are centerstage.🙄

Rich House

That's kind of what I expected. The fact you can't list anything positive to me just indicates you're fully invested in hating the show, can't even say something good about Ewan Mcgregors performance? Even in shows I most dislike I could find something good in them but hating things is super easy and apparently that's all you have an interest in doing here.

Endling_king

Brian hates the show so much that he cant just ignore it or any reactions to it. he has to post his views and opinions about it and call them valid problems with the show. true they may be valid for him, but that doesnt mean that others share his views and opinions. (unless you count the rest of the toxic fandom who also rage and gatekeep as a means of trying to make sure that others are made to share there feelings and views about the show) even to the point of making the actors who were in the show regret doing so. it comes down to the fact that he hates it so much that he MUST prove his hate if valid by trying as hard as he can to ruin it for others who find the show enjoyable to watch.

Brian Jones

@Rich House - "The fact you can't list anything positive to me just indicates you're fully invested in hating the show" Or, it shows you just don't like or agree with my opinion regarding the show. I mean sure, I could say something like "Ewan McGregor convincingly reprised his role as Obi-Wan", but it's not positive as the character is written like a bumbling idiot and comes off completely unbelievable in relation to his past appearances. Joel Edgerton does fine reprising Uncle Owen, but he's barely in the show, and again, written unconvincingly in the final episode (won't go into detail for the sake of spoilers). The fact that these two are good actors is a given. They both have a proven track record and I'd expect nothing less. You could throw whoever your favorite actor is, anyone in the universe, into the production, but if they are written like shit and given the wrong direction or material, it's not going to be a "good" result. The problem Rich, is that the only positives are muted and completely inconsequential thanks to just how poorly this project was handled by every single department (writing, directing, editing, lighting, effects, production design) in charge of it. So no, there's really nothing at all to say about this show that's a positive. Again, you just apparently don't like hearing it, so you dismiss it on it's face. It's more you looking for an out than anything else. Kind of telling about your character Rich. "hating things is super easy and apparently that's all you have an interest in doing here." No Rich, not "things", just this show. It's a complete dumpster fire. If you want to discuss the things I love outside of this garbage, I'd happily oblige you.🤷 In fact, just moments ago I was commenting in another reactors forum on how great Jeremy Renner's performance was in Wind River, and how much I loved that film, as well as Hurt Locker. But that's not the topic of discussion here.🤷

Brian Jones

@Endling_king - Again, as I told Rich, you're welcome to move along and not engage with me at all, but it's quite apparent you felt the need. "unless you count the rest of the toxic fandom who also rage and gatekeep" Who would you be referring to? "it comes down to the fact that he hates it so much that he MUST prove his hate if valid by trying as hard as he can to ruin it for others who find the show enjoyable to watch. " Again, completely untrue and pretty laughably absurd when you think about it. I've constantly said throughout that if you enjoy the show, good for you. I've never criticized someone for enjoying the show, nor have I tossed empty labels or smears on them for it. Something I can't say for people who have disagreed. Interesting how that works, isn't it?🤷 It seems people like yourself are just incapable of moving along and not engaging with a contrary viewpoint without attempting to blame the person, or call them out so to speak, for having the opposing views. Saying something, anything (usually completely unrelated to the topic at hand), to help explain away their opposing views. I notice that theme being even more prominent when the opposing views are factual and undeniable. That, or if it's seriously ruining the show for you, you might want to reexamine why you ever liked it in the first place.🤷

Rich House

I don't think anyone wants to interact with you, but you plaster yourself over a good portion of the comments sections. I've had the displeasure of reading through all your comments and the whole sentiment of someone else enjoying the show being good for them comes across hollow, you plainly told someone they were in denial of everything bad about it to do so in a previous comment. Maybe you don't get the vague or at times not vague at all implication that people who enjoy the show are in denial, or watch things blindly, or don't understand how flawed it is is actually an insulting/condescending manner to talk to people. I'll completely ignore you in the future but you certainly make sure there is a lot to have to avoid.

Brian Jones

@Rich House - "I don't think anyone wants to interact with you, but you plaster yourself over a good portion of the comments sections." Yet here you are Rich, doing it over, and over, and over again.🤷 "I've had the displeasure of reading through all your comments and the whole sentiment of someone else enjoying the show being good for them comes across hollow" A.) No one forced you to read a single one. 🤷 B.) Why would you repeatedly subject yourself to something you've now gone on at length about your clear disdain for? Other than to attempt to play "gotcha", which you've clearly failed to do. C.) I can't control how you interpolate my comments Rich. All I can do is explain myself. Yet after doing it now, continually and at length, you are still going out of your way to misrepresent my position. Again, very telling about your character.🤷 "you plainly told someone they were in denial of everything bad about it to do so in a previous comment" Care to provide that exact quote in context?🤷 "how flawed it is is actually an insulting/condescending manner to talk to people." I don't control how you perceive something Rich. As misguided and twisted as it may be. Especially when I have explained it all at length and you still seem to want to miss the point.🤷 "I'll completely ignore you in the future but you certainly make sure there is a lot to have to avoid." Probably for the best because at this point, you're out of ammo. This was clearly never about the show for you, just some misguided attempt at what you appear to think is a moral victory.🤷

Rich House

One last comment for the requested quote with context. S1E1 Obi-Wan, under Austin Cahills comment, your first comment: "The one thing people like yourself seem to be completely incapable of seeing is that WE ALL want Star Wars to be both good and successful. Even us "toxic" people. The difference is, some of us don't blindly consume said content without being willing to point out the blatant flaws in the work." And your second comment which is in response to J.C.G includes: "There are glaring errors in the CGI and effects work (to the point that it doesn't even measure up to it's own franchise and makes The Mandalorian look like a masterpiece). Now you can disagree or remain in denial about them all you like, but they are clearly there and countless other "toxic" or "bigoted" people have pointed them out. And one or more are in every single episode." "I never discounted the opinions in the slightest. In fact, I've pointed out in almost every comment I've made that if you enjoyed the show, despite it's obvious flaws, good for you. It's the denial of said objective flaws and petty and vapid name calling from you that's so amusing."

Philip

Fun fact: The girl who sold Obi-Wan the spice is actually Ewan McGregor's daughter in real life.

Brian Jones

@Luis Santos - I can't explain to you why Rebels or Obi-Wan, or any other Disney Star Wars property contradicts itself, only that they do and it's happening more frequently as time goes on. Both Vader and Sidious were publicly there for the destruction of all of the lightsabers right after the fall of the Jedi temple on Coruscant. That's in the Marvel comic run. That was both of them literally standing in front of a crowd of thousands, in a ceremony that would have certainly made headline news on the holonet. This is immediately after RotS. He also rounds up the entire upper echelon of the imperial high command and directly tells them who Vader is and that he's basically second in command. So now it's a given the entire imperial army knows about him. As well as quite a few clone troopers and random Jedi throughout the issues. Three short years later Ackbar meets him face to face on Mon Cala and we see him very visibly wreck shop on the planet. That certainly would have made the news. Point being, Vader got around and was VERY well known. There's no way the holonet wouldn't cover the guy. Lords of the Sith also has him pretty publicly wrecking shop around the galaxy, and that's set 5 years after RotS. Neither of them were any kind of secret, Palpatine was already granted emergency powers in front of the entire galaxy, and Vader was by his side the entire time following the events of RotS. It's also why Leia was already very familiar with Vader come ANH, and why the rebels were literally shitting themselves in Rogue One when they saw him spark his saber in that hallway. The entire galaxy, (apparently accept for Obi-Wan, who Disney and everyone here seems to think would have just stuck his head in the sand like an ostrich even though he's supposed to be protecting Luke from these very well known threats) knew who Vader was, and knew he was the emperor's enforcer. And they essentially have ever since RotS, or at the very least just a few short years after. All of this to basically say that considering how well known the name Vader was across the galaxy, and how visible he was 10 years, 7 years, and 5 years before the show Obi-Wan takes place, it's FAR more of a leap (to the point of insanity) that Vader wouldn't widely be known about, than would. It would be the real world equivalent of not knowing who Hitler and Himmler were during WWII.🤦

Brian Jones

@Rich House - And? You're not helping your original point here Rich. The comments speak for themselves. You would literally have to be in denial to not see the egregious flaws of the show. Maybe you can look past them and still enjoy it, and that's fine, none of those comments attack or belittle anyone for enjoying it, but the flaws are definitely there.🤷

Rich House

OK I'll cave to another message because we are clearly on different wavelengths here. I'm not having an argument with you even if you are with me, my original point was you don't need to be starting arguments. You left your scathing review in the episode 1 comment section and all you got was a fairly neutral reply about Disney making a lot more Star Wars content, no one started an argument with you. But you managed to start a few by going to other peoples replies. If you had lead your first reply here just giving your knowledge of some of the Star Wars lore that you believe doesn't work with the what is presented in the show in a way that wasn't combative you wouldn't create a you vs them scenario. But instead you lead with the 'attempting to plug obvious plot holes' line finishing with 'just more shit writing' and from that point on no one who originally disagreed with you was going to be inclined to accept anything you had to say. You can say you don't have control over how what you write is perceived, if you are happy with how you interact with people that's fine. But It doesn't look like you're making many good impressions on people from what I'm seeing.

Brian Jones

@Rich House - "OK I'll cave to another message" I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.🙄 "my original point was you don't need to be starting arguments" So now posting an opposing point of view, opinion, or alternative set of facts (even if they might be uncomfortable for some) is "starting an argument". At this rate, maybe we should just outlaw comment sections altogether. I mean, that's what the vast majority of comment sections are Rich. Spirited debate and banter. So I honestly don't know how you make it through the day without feeling like you have to save the world at this point.🙄 You also seem to be under the very strange and misguided impression that I, or anyone else here, is in any way emotional about these conversations. I assure you, I'm not. Are you? This is a discussion about a TV show Rich.🙄 Luis Santos and I are currently in the midst of a debate regarding the holonet and imperial propaganda (well, to be quite honest it's really a discussion about Disney stepping on their own dick, but that's beside the point). Do you think Luis is emotional right now? Do you picture Luis slamming his fists against the keyboard in anger, yelling obscenities at the top of his lungs? I highly doubt it. Do you think I'm emotional about it? About a TV show? He's just stating his opinion on the subject (as misguided as it may be :), and I'm stating, given the rules of this universe and basic logic, why I think his opinion is misguided. Does this mean Luis will never engage in another conversation again with me on this platform? That's up to Luis, but I would hope he's above that petty nonsense. Does it mean I will never engage in a discussion with Luis going forward? Of course not. "You can say you don't have control over how what you write is perceived" Because I don't. Which is pretty much the case with any and all comments online or otherwise. Offense is taken, not given Rich. If you're taking offense or getting emotional about something you read online from someone you don't even personally know, especially if it's a comment that has absolutely nothing to do with you personally, or you feel the deep need to correct a complete strangers style of writing, I would strongly suggest some away time from the computer Rich. Maybe even a consult with a mental health expert. "If you had lead your first reply here just giving your knowledge of some of the Star Wars lore " And here we are, back to square one. If only I had commented in a way that you approved of.🙄 "But It doesn't look like you're making many good impressions on people from what I'm seeing." My comments aren't about catering to your opinion of "making a good impression" Rich, they are about my expressing my personal opinions regarding a show, a reaction, or my opinion regarding the contents of another comment. Which is exactly what the vast majority of all comments online or even offline are Rich, regardless of who they're from. I find it highly amusing that someone such as yourself seems intent on critiquing another persons behavior by writing some ill perceived wrong. You're exhibiting all the behavior of what's called a white knight Rich, apparently on a mission to save the comment section from little old me (and I would imagine anyone else that might upset your applecart). And to be honest, it's becoming quite hilarious at this point.

Brian Jones

@Luis Santos - "you say the news would be blasted all over the holonet. Yet there’s no evidence it has been." Luis, let's examine this with basic logic. The empire seizes the holonet and broadcasts their propaganda. They continually do this for a period of 10 years prior to this show, and you think it's reasonable they would never mention the emperor or his most notable enforcer? Again, I'll use the WWII analogy. A war that took place over an even shorter period. Do you think the names Hitler and Himmler weren't used in German propaganda? Americans knew about Germany's leaders long before they even entered the war. The point being, news travels fast, and bad news travels everywhere. "You understand the point of propaganda correct? It is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view." Sure, but the actions of the empire are quite the opposite. Hence why you had huge rebel uprisings such as the free ryloth movement. A huge portion of the galaxy already knew that the propaganda was misinformation. They knew they were living under the thumb of the empire and being oppressed. That the empire was ruling through fear. Saying one thing and doing another. And you can damn sure bank on Obi-Wan being smart enough to know that (at least the Obi-Wan that isn't the bumbling idiot Disney has concocted). I'd even go one step further and say Obi-Wan, at least the Obi-Wan post RotS, would have been smart enough to be monitoring backchannels on the holonet as well (which incidentally were used for Rebel communication and counter propaganda, and which would certainly have been discussing Vader and Sidious). To be keeping himself as in the know as possible so he could properly protect Luke. That's why this entire thing is kind of absurd. It's basically Disney assuming Obi-Wan just went totally derelict in his duties. It's a violation of everything that one would think that character would logically do. Not just subverting expectations, but literally obliterating them. And do they give a reasonable explanation for it? Nope. Nor do they give a reasonable explanation for any of his other actions (burying lightsabers, cutting himself off from the force, leaving the planet, etc.). The Obi-Wan we knew from RotS and prior (and ANH going forward), was a calculating, intelligent, and very cautious man. Not someone who would have ignored his oath, or (SPOILERS - ) blurted out details of a mission or secret identity to a stormtrooper. Another absolutely laughable moment in this mess of series. In fact, it's not even out of character, it's a complete contradiction of character. But hey, maybe you're right. I mean it's not like Disney didn't do the same thing with Luke.🙄

Nic Benham

He knows Anankin is Vader but he just hadnt heard of his exploits since mustaphar. and the last he saw was limbless and burnt so presumed he had died

Brian Jones

"you say all this like there’s proof it’s exactly how it happens." No Luis, I say this using basic deduction and logic based on what we have always known about Obi-Wan, what we know about this universe, what any reasonable human being would think would happen during wartime, and the information we have from the comic and the book covering this time period. "You cannot compare real world events to this because it’s not the real world. " Regarding war, this universe follows the same rules ours does. Rebel factions rising up against an imperial force. It's literally BASED on our world. Where do you think Lucas got his inspiration? It wasn't otherworldly. And logic and continuity should remain a constant regardless of what universe is involved.🤦 "from everything we have seen the holonet is used for propaganda and to exemplify the strength of their army" The holonet was used primarily for propaganda for the empire, because they had officially seized control of it. But it was also used for rebel communications as well. It's the primary source of communication across the galaxy. Think internet Luis. "In my opinion it’s much better to use Vader as a shadow figure" We've already been over this. He wasn't a "shadow figure" at all. In fact, he was very public on multiple occasions throughout the galaxy as well as being very well known throughout the entire imperial army. Even if he never came up on the holonet (which would have been an impossibility), you don't think a single imperial trooper ever spoke about him publicly? You don't think that rumor mill was churning across the galaxy?? Come on man, you're just being ridiculous now.🤦 "You’re saying a huge portion of the galaxy knew propaganda was misinformation, so by that logic why would anyone believe anything it has to say? " As with any propaganda, some did and some didn't, much like with any government that turns tyrannical, and usually dependent on local politics and interests. How do you think the resistance got started? Some were sympathetic to the empire, some weren't, and those that weren't were forced to be and usually rebelled. Hence why things like the free ryloth movement happened. "Including showing off Vader and emperor killing people?" They were public about it. Vader was literally hunting Jedi in front of Ackbar on Mon Cala for crying out loud. I don't know how I can spell this out any clearer for you. They were public, they were bold, and they had the eyes of the universe on them when they were doing it.🤦 "Kenobi cut himself off from the force because they lost." That doesn't even jive with the end of RotS. He's specifically going to Tatooine to look after the child. He's even given hope by Yoda that he will speak to his old master. (SPOILERS) Something else Disney decided in their idiotic wisdom to strip away, only to wedge in a ham-fisted, ridiculous, and VERY cheesy cameo at the end of the show. Did Obi-Wan seem like a "broken man" to you at the end of RotS? He seems like a man on a mission. Did he ever give you the impression at any other time that he would just give up? Quit? Abandon his duty? Nope. He was a man who dealt with the inevitability of situations. To the point he was willing to kill his own padiwan and best friend.🤦 "He was a failure and it was because he put so much of his faith in the force. If everything you knew was a lie or failed you why in any world would you continue to follow it and dedicate your life to it? There’s no reason to. It’s an obvious evolution to the character we saw at the end of RoTS." That's Disney bullshit you're talking about though. Their garbage reinvention of the character. Obi-Wan knew damn well who's fault it all was. He wasn't blaming himself, that's absurd. Listen to his speech after his dual with Anakin. "YOU were the Chosen One! It was said that YOU would destroy the Sith, not join them. bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness." Those aren't the words of a man who feels like he's responsible, that's him calling out Anakin for being responsible. He knew Anakin was truly lost and there was no way to bring him back, so he did what he had to do. Unlike the Obi-Wan we have now. Someone who apparently just up and abandons his responsibility and oath. Someone who totally gave up on Yoda and the force. It's ridiculous. That's just Disney attempting to retcon the character, and OMFG did they fail epically. Hence why you have the fanbase splintering yet again. Why you have countless negative reviews of this show floating around, and why the RT score was in the dumpster. You could throw a stone in any direction on YouTube and find a video pointing out all of the same logical fallacies, contrivances, and shit writing. I'm CLEARLY not the only one that saw these issues Luis.🤦

Brian Jones

"Logic and continuity are what they make it in the universe. And compared to what we have already it’s very much in line with what we know." I don't know what else to tell you regarding this, as I've given you in universe explanations and examples, as well as real world comparable examples that both make the premise nonsensical. It's not "in line with what we know" in the slightest.🙄 "But if something so small as Kenobi not knowing Vader is alive hinders your enjoyment of this show then more power to you." Oh no, it goes WELL beyond just that. And I've listed many of those issues, even in this very conversation, multiple times. But starting with fundamentally not understanding your character spells disaster from the jump. There's still all the ridiculousness in the writing within each episode of the show, not to mention shoddy effects work, bad editing, horrible fight choreography, bad direction and shot staging, bad color grading, etc. There's tons more to criticize.🙄 "Why would any imperial officer be talking about him?" You don't talk about your boss? Come now, don't be ridiculous.🙄 "If you’re going to quote the movie finish the quote. “ I have failed you Anakin. I have failed you.” " Now you're just cherry-picking to try and cover, and it's you who didn't finish the quote. That was earlier on in the dual and that portion of the conversation ended with Obi-Wan saying quite specifically "Well then you are lost". Again, I'm asking you honestly, did Obi-Wan seem like a man that was giving up on his responsibilities in that film? Did it seem to you he was going to abandon them at the end of that film? If you're honest, the answer is clearly "no" Luis. "Yeah if you look hard enough you can find anything on YouTube. Doesn’t mean their opinions are more valid than anyone else’s." When large swaths of people see the same nonsensical things I do, Nat included if you're watching these reactions, and are pointing out exactly the same scenes, continuity errors, bad writing, etc., then it's pretty obvious something was there and I'm not making it up out of thin air Luis. Again, if you can like this show despite it's flaws, more power to you. But the flaws are obvious, numerous, and for many like myself, so bad and egregious that one can't ignore them. (SPOILERS) But hey, maybe you can totally buy something like Obi-Wan sneaking a little girl out under his coat, in what was akin to something like a Benny Hill sketch, in front of countless imperials. Maybe shit like that is totally believable to you.😂🤷

Daniel Vezina

I know everyone said it, but if you plan on watching Mando S3, you really need to watch Boba. You'll be lost if you don't.

Daniel Vezina

Clone Trooper were the tools Palpatine used to win his Empire. Stormtroopers, were the tools he used to keep is Empire. Obi on blasters "Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.” He find fast, barely an inconvenience, no problem at all. The chase scen was so dumb." Parkour's" feel like I'm back in 2005. He got down so quickly, Yeah no problem at all, barely an inconvenience, even with Reva chasing them. The woman he's referring to is not Padme at all, but Satine Kryze. He's long lost lover, from the Clone wars series, yeah Ben loved too.

Misty Crom

Jango Fett in the prequels. Boba was a kid.

Richard

Obi-Wan didn’t know about Vader being alive for a couple of reasons. The first, obviously, Obi-Wan is hiding and keeping a low profile. His main concern is watching over Luke, he’s not exactly watching the news. Two, he didn’t know Anakin was rescued, he just assumed he’d die of his injuries. Three, in Disney canon, Vader does not exactly live out loud. He’s a secret enforcer of the Emperor. Heck, he doesn’t even really come to be in command of an entire fleet until Empire Strikes Back. Following the destruction of the Death Star, Vader even gets demoted and has to take orders from General Tagge (he was the one on the Death Star that said the rebels could destroy it, he survived).

Brian Jones

"I have been asking for in universe explanations and examples" And I've given them to you.😂🤦 "Yeah, I’m not an imperial officer. Nor do I want to imagine them gossiping to other people like 13 year old girls, but if you do that’s fine, you just have a very strange idea of who the empire are. " Storm Troopers casually discuss things Luis. It's been depicted in almost every iteration of Star Wars going back to ANH. Troops on a battlefield talk Luis. You don't think Vader ever comes up?? You don't think any of them ever defected?? Mutinied?? Deserted?? In all of their fighting across the galaxy during a decade of wartime?? I'm sorry man, but this conversation and your very narrow interpretation of this universe is just reaching hilarious levels of absurdity and unbelievability.😂🤦 "Kenobi is the entire reason he goes to the dark side." WTF? No Luis. He's ultimately seduced by the dark side because he's tempted directly by Sidious. Toyed with and manipulated emotionally. Groomed so to speak. Even more specifically because he's tempted by the ability to save Padme. To have access to a power the Jedi couldn't provide. It's literally spelled out for you in the prequels. Anakin's downfall isn't the fault of the Jedi or Obi-Wan, it's ultimately the fault of his own selfishness and dictatorial tendencies that he specifically hid from Obi-Wan. Your misplaced criticism is like blaming a cop for the acts of a criminal simply because the cop didn't have the magical foresight to read the right mind at the right time and foresee the criminal was going to commit a crime. Of course said cop is going to feel remorseful or responsible for not being there soon enough, or not being able to spot something, anything, that may have clued him in and helped prevent it, but that doesn't make it the fault of the cop. Jesus man, I suggest you go back and re-watch all of it.😂🤦 "He understands that and that’s why he failed him." By putting the entire blame on Anakin?? By pointing out it was Anakin who was truly lost??😂🤦 "Every Jedi gave up. It would be stupid of them to continue believing" That's not even true for this show, as there's an active resistance that directly eludes to other Jedi. But that aside, those other Jedi didn't have a task given to them by Yoda of protecting an extremely important child. You're just devolving into nonsense and drivel at this point Luis.🤦 "I will take the child and watch over him. Yoda: Until the time is right, disappear, we will.” His only responsibility was to disappear." Are you so far gone you're ignoring your own quotes now Luis? "I will take the child and watch over him". Which is literally what we see in the first episode of this series. Although it makes absolutely no sense as Obi-Wan (while still actively watching the child) is in ZERO condition to protect the child if something did actually happen.😂🤦 "Turning into a crazy old man? Who only goes into master mode when Luke finally shows up?" You do realize the "crazy old man" shtick from Yoda was a bit he was putting on for Luke when he first arrived, right? My god, do we really need to explain the OT to you as well? Are you going to quote uncle Owen from ANH as well, in his description of Ben? There's a reason people weren't being completely honest Luis.😂🤦 "And to berate the work of so many people and to say people are in denial because they like the show is not the way to give your opinion. " Luis, I point out shit work when it's shit work regardless of IP, as have countless others. I'm even more critical when it's something dear to my heart. The writing for this show was an epic dumpster fire. Even Nat is pointing that out and literally laughing out loud at it, and she's just a casual fan that's relatively new to the entire universe. It's so obvious that there are countless comments on social media and hours of video on YouTube and the like pointing out how ridiculous it all is. So yeah, anyone not acknowledging it is in a pretty obvious state of denial. It's even more insulting to the hardcore fans of the franchise. It's a mockery of the fandom to release something so subpar and just expect your fans to mindlessly consume latest product because it has a Star Wars label slapped on the side. We saw this with the sequels as well. Fans know when the bullshit stinks to high heaven, and they call it out. Sadly, thanks to the nonchalance and denial of many, Disney will simply feel like they can repeatedly get away with it. You think that's a good thing for the franchise Luis? You think that sort of attitude will lead to a better product going forward, or worse one? You do know there's a reason the Star Wars Christmas special has been all but banished from the face of the planet, right?😂🤦 But I digress. I guess you're willing to completely accept a subpar product. Thankfully the crowd that isn't is growing by leaps and bounds, and much like the Marvel franchise, Star Wars will continue to see diminishing returns as time goes on unless there is some miraculous course correction made. Maybe you even want to see that continual decline happen, but I sure as hell don't. I think we've talked this to death at this point, so if you have a last word feel free to make it, I've said my piece. Enjoy what I'm sure will be the jovial and quite entertaining nature of future reactions to this show going forward. The reactions and ensuing comment sections are getting increasingly spicy.👍

Brian Jones

@Luis Santos - "Marvel, diminishing returns? Definitely figured out what kind of fan you are lol." The kind that's honest about where a franchise stands? You should give it a try sometime. It tends to make things a whole lot easier than continually having to make up excuses.😏🤷

Chris

Inquisitor is a classification of Sith. Extremely powerful in the force, and yes exceptionally brutal. If I recall correctly Palpitine is also classed as an inquisitor. Also, I feel like you miss the part where she's Sith. Sith aren't exactly cute and cuddly. True some control their emotions better but unlike Jedi they are driven by passion. They are all varying levels of psycho and will always stab you in the back to get ahead. Reva isnt special in that regard
