It's finally time for a FEATURE FRIDAY!! Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one. Make sure to stay tuned for a chat about the movie with Tyler in the outro!

Also, apologies for the roughly 20 second gap of black screen between the end of the reaction and the outro. This was a small mistake I made in editing, but don't think it's worth going back and re-exporting the whole video to remove it.

Thanks so much again for your support here on Patreon! Take care and ✨stay golden✨

spoiler alert: my biggest problem with this movie is josh brolins el paso motel scene, i mean we center on this guy for so long and he gets taken out by the mexicans and we don’t even get to see it? even if the story isn’t about him it’s still a big piece, even woodys character got his final scene showed, the rawness of it, but not josh brolins character? ruins the majority of the movie for me, we get the mexicans death and the guy in the office but not josh brolins, rest of the movie is great, except some minor stuff

Chris Jarrett

Read this book the week it came out because my father was a mccarthy scholar. I was awaiting this and There Will Be Blood for a long while and they ended up making my senior year in HS.

I'm so glad you're watching this film, Nat! It's my favorite Coen brothers film, alongside O Brother, Where Art Thou? Everyone's great in it, but I also want to give a shout-out to Kelly Macdonald, who gives an underrated performance as Carla Jean. She's Scottish, but you'd never know it (she's a master of accents), and she's my favorite actress alongside Amy Adams. Also, I have to recommend another movie not dissimilar in plot called “A Simple Plan”. It’s probably not well-known enough to win a poll, but it’s an incredible film, so if nothing else, I recommend watching it just on your own time. Cueing up my copy right now. Best wishes for a great wedding. Cheers, Nat!

Danishprince

WOOO! Chat with Tyler always makes it more fun <3 - Never seen this one myself so pretty excited to see what it has to offer :D

Darryl Low

Happy Feature Friday Nat. haven't seen this movie so looking forward to watching along today 😊 The only movie that comes to mind right now that doesn't have a score is The Birds. It does have great sound design though. More broken bones for you Nat ha ha. Holy shit, what an awesome movie. Loved the slow burn of it all as the story unravelled. 3 great actors creating 3 great characters. Definitely would love to see more of this type of movie on your channel Nat. Enjoyed the summarising with Tyler. It's always a great listen with you sharing your thoughts. And hearing Tyler call out the conspiracists was a lot of fun 😂 Thanks for a really amazing video today Nat, and for all your awesome work this week. Looking forward to your livestream tonight and more cat antics. Have a brilliant weekend Nat 💛

Randee Carreno

Happy Feature Friday, Natalie! 😊 This is such a good movie. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Every Friday evening it's become a tradition, I get take out for dinner and watch your movie reaction. Have a great day and weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Brian Jones

Been looking forward to this. Great flick across the board. From performances, to cinematography, to direction. Nice to get back to some serious cinema. Glad you finally got to it. I wouldn't sweat the comment section too much. I think the only reason someone would have made a comment like that was likely due to so much of the pop culture content (Marvel, Star Wars, etc....). P.S. - Nah, you were thinking Cinemax (AKA Skinemax). HBO was always the classier of the two. Owned by the same company though. :)

Night King01

You realize by the end of the film who the title was referring to which was Sherrif bell.

Juan Colorado

If you want movies similar (Neo-western) I would recommend watching the frontier trilogy (not a true trilogy so you can watch it in any order) Sicario, hell or high water, and wind river

DrowningKraken

It's not explained in the movie but in the book Woody Harrelson's character Carson has OCD, which is why he brings up the number of floors. Also this movie is incredibly close to the book in similarity, almost one to one exactly from what I remember. Edit* Also kind of an interesting contrast I thought of is the comparison of the kid giving Anton his shirt and trying to give it for free as opposed to the drunk college kids being greedy and trying to screw Llewelyn over when he asks for the coat and beer. But once the kid takes the money and Anton leaves they start to bicker over the money kind of becoming jaded and losing their innocence in a sense.

Fostena

Damn, I won't be able to watch it until Monday! 😰

Chris Cooper

Is it just me or is the playback speed from HBO max stuff always screwed up? It never seems to stay in sync for me when watching along from another source

Dan Careaga

One of my favorite films! Thanks for the awesome reaction. Always great to have Tyler in on the discussion!

Ben Wheeler

I think I requested this after a Harrison Ford reaction but I’ll put it out there again with this having Tommy Lee Jones in it—The Fugitive, please!

Philippe Dessaints

Well damn ! I never saw this movie before but I have to say, it's genius. Also, I feel like neither Josh Brolin's character nor Tommy Lee Jones' character was the protagonist. Rather I'd say it was Anton.

Brian Jones

Interesting.... I always thought Tyler was sitting somewhere else in the house with a cold beer feeding you lines over a wireless earpiece.😂🤣😂🤣 Sorry, couldn't resist. YouTube comments be cray cray.😏

Ken

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez filmed Josh Brolin's audition video for him during a break on Planet Terror. It was distractingly well shot and at first the only thing Brolin heard back was the Coen's wanted to know who lit it.

Night King01

The deer was also foreshadowing for how he can wound Anton but never kill him.

Brian Jones

All three excellent suggestions. Sicario is probably my favorite of the three but they are tough to put in order. And Wind River is probably (Hurt Locker is a close second) the best film Jeremy Renner has ever done.

SmokeAndACoffee

I so hope Ballad of Buster Scruggs ends up on the watch list xD

Keith Jacobsen

Glad this won the poll Nat, loved your reaction to it. It's definitely thought-provoking, what a "new classic"! And the rare cameo from Tyler! That's yummy! (hahaha)

Logan Kerlee

I super enjoyed that outro! xD The movie though, wow! I've watched this a number of times and I always enjoy it. It's a quality movie. Good stuff! :)

Myles Away

Ah dang. Wish you hadn't learned about the lack of score! Such a fun thing to have dawn on you.

Dooly

On the topic of films with no score, I know Dog Day Afternoon falls in that category. A great film if you haven’t seen it.

SilentBobFather

It seems to me that the movie starts without a beginning, and ends without a conclusion. I mean this in a good way.

Rime Pendragon

Tyler: "You need that scene, it ties everything together". You mean, like a ... rug ?

SilentBobFather

Didn't Lewellen take the case out of the vent earlier? And left it under the bridge in Mexico? Or was the case empty?

George Baxter

I always thought that the Sheriff's torch in the darkness speech was the ultimate message of the movie. He's become lost in the darkness and he's looking to his father for some comfort. What he says about hoping to have found God by this stage in his life really struck me this time around. I can see why Nat would want to talk about this film afterward. Its really hard to draw conclusions! I read the book at school and 10 years later I cant find anything to hold onto. How could I even comprehend the existential crisis at that age?! What's genius about the book is how it draws out the nature of chaos through this real-world scenario and setting. As an English person I wonder what this film would look like transposed to an English setting. Or maybe that violence is just even harder to grasp around here...

Erik Stevenson

Ah nice, I'm stoked to watch this again with your reaction! I'll take this chance on a modern western to once again plug Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River - which are all incredibly different (from each other and from NCFOM) but are truly excellent.

Opti_Frog

I don't not like this movie, but i also kind of hate it. This was my third time seeing it. I think i have just decided never to watch it again.

Eryk Klukaczyński

I hope you sometime will watch There Will Be Blood it's the film that was fighting NCfOM over Oscar for the best Movie and both were so great, probably if one were in different year both would have Oscar for best picture but that sometimes happens when two big art pieces have to fight :)

Boomcity

"This dog is looking rougher and rougher" - Nat You mean ruffer and ruffer? I'll leave now..

Molecule

To this day I still can't decide which I'd let "win" LOL 2 films I can watch again and again and still flipping one way or the other on either of them.

Squ33ky

Even if He did not have a conscious it did not matter with the tracker in the money

MacGuffinStuff

Loved the post watch discussion, hit a lot of my favorite aspects of this masterpiece. This one strikes a real chord with me because it's so in tone with how I kind of see life, the arbitrariness is so realistic. And I'm frankly one of those people who loves so-called "unsatisfying" endings, because that IS how life is. I know most people have a need for resolution in movies and in life but, like Ellis said, that's vanity. Here we are, acting with intention, often at cross purposes and agents of chaos, and then there's just plain ole Chaos. A lot of my friends and family are very religious and they just can't understand how and why I, an agnostic, seem to deal with shitty things without all the hair pulling grief or anger, and it's very simple, I just don't take it personally, shit just happens sometimes, you do your best and that has to be enough, even when it isn't. Seems the older I get the more I really relate to Tommy Lee Jones' character, guess I'm getting flatter lol

dieselbeast

Hopefully it sounded like you wanted to watch the rest of the three movies on this poll sometime this year, I hope so!!!! 😁😁

Chris Lane

This is my second time watching it...I really enjoyed both watch-throughs. Javier Bardem is such an awesome villain in many movies but this is definitely his best work as you can't really figure out his motives other than some kind of code. Also, upon watching the movie this time, I'm slightly reminded of the movie Psycho. There was a money thing which was a distraction IMO, plot-wise and the "protagonist" dies relatively early, and there's a psycho killer. Also, if you enjoyed this movie, a bit different, but also has a few minor similarities is "Bad Times at the El Royale"

Jomero

RE: HBO. Nah, HBO didn't have the really racy stuff, even at night. Source: I was a preteen boy with hormones whose family had HBO in the '80s. There were a couple shows that were racier than others (like Dream On), but still fairly tame other than the obligatory boob shot. For the most part HBO just showed movies that had been out in the theaters just 6 months prior, as well as had original programming. From Fraggle Rock, to One Night Stand (a show featuring stand up comics), to Tales From the Crypt, to Not Necessarily the News (news comedy sketch show). You're probably thinking of Cinemax, whose nickname among many was "Skinemax" for the very reasons you were probably thinking of.

pedantech

Dance your cares away

Taff Lewis

Yes, Hell or High Water

Rey

Those are all great choices

Green Nolan

Whoa whoa whoa... Did nobody understand the two kids at the end? Javier Bardem's character is injured badly... An innocent comes to his aid and refuses any money... After money is given he immediately starts fighting with his friend... It's a microcosm of the film Josh brolin's character goes out to bring an injured person aid He then (I know he had the money already, but this is when he's all in) is essentially claiming the money Then, he starts fighting with his "friendo" Essentially it's about how good hearted people can be seduced into terrible things with money/greed

Thomas Richter

I feel like Anton is an agent of chaos, and when he kills the wife at the end, after she refuses to call the coin and he kills her anyway so chaos hits him with a car.

Ernesto

This was such a fun watch. I will add that this is one of the few instances where the movie is actually better than the book. You mentioned the reflection between the characters Anton and Ed Tom, I also think their names are purposely similar phonetically. Also, since mention theatre school and what you studied, I would recommend that you watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Ana Fox

I LOVE when you have those in-depth discussions at the end!

Baron

Thank you for the great reaction! spot on with all your comments so far! I wanted to say that Kelly Macdonald who is the wife or girlfriend, is such an amazing actor! She is actually a Scottish actor so that is how good her voice work is! She is the voice of Merdia in Brave, she has a great movie she stared in called "Decoy Bride". Plus She costars with Sam Rockwell in a movie called "Choke" which is written by the same author as Fight Club. She also has some amazing tv spots from Alias to staring in an episode of Black Mirror "Hated In The Nation".

Tay Schumaker

There is actually a score, it’s only 16 minutes of music and it is very subtle but it is there in certain scenes. I could talk about this movie for hours, it’s a top 5 movie all time for me.

Snacky Munchies

Interesting Movie love the outro and just the discussion back and forth between you and Tyler was awesome brought a cool aspect to it. Hope it happens more. Seems like cool guy with great insight also. Hope if not regularly but once or so would be cool to see a duo review. As I said he sounds very insightful. it would be amazing

Dez H

About him drinking the milk, apparently when killers do something outside the norm like breaking in or killing, they'll suddenly break a lot of other lesser rules of society all at once. Like pooping and not flushing in the the victim's toilet, or in this case, drinking their milk out of the glass.

Tay Schumaker

Also I’m glad Tyler explained that Anton didn’t escape through the vent (which would literally be impossible) and told her how he went back and got the money. But I’m not sure she still totally got that.

xander

yes to Wind River!! i think Nat would love Elizabeth Olsen in it

Mannygogou

"Natalie will not like?" 😅 were they thinking of "300" ? Just kidding... the two movies maybe are not that comparable.

Mannygogou

I'm just preparing for watching this full reaction, i haven't found the time yet. Another movie that Nat didn't like I think was the first Ant-man. My interpretation of that is because the original director was fired, yes? I won't go into the details and don't know the details about that but it could be why Natalie didn't like the movie. In defense of that situation, it was because of how important Ant-man was to the saga of the Infinity War which was 10 years in the making. As we all know Ant-man was pivotal to the plot in that long arc and therefore key scenes or key characterizations were important for that long vision. I'm sure the director did not take kindly to what he considered meddling in "his" vision of the movie. I may be making all that up since I really never followed what all that was about. But as a creative, the director will have support from many parts of the industry and as we also know now post-Infinity War era, the "creatives" are being allowed, are being given the reins again on practically all MCU movies and series. So once in a while there are clues that there may be a long term multi-movie underlying story arc but the iron grip of control is no longer there and each film project is being given control to whomever the creatives are for that project. That's what it looks like to me. Yet I remain hopeful that there are still epic stories yet to be seen. Thanks

Ilsuk Yang

Having no music in the movie was such an eerie choice. I'm glad they had the courage to do it

Fostena

Another excellent movie from a Cormac McCarthy novel: "The Road" (2009).

Fostena

I always thought Nat had the habit of watching herself and check if she is in frame and/or properly lit. Never crossed my mind that Tyler may be out of frame! :D

Fostena

OMG I love Hot Ones. Best talk show ever

Śéáń

Different motel. Anton deduced that Lewellen would hide it in this room the same place as the last one, which is why he was there the night that Ed called by for a final look.

Śéáń

You know you've made it when your community has it's own conspiracy theory about the channel.

Daniel McGuinness

Can’t believe I just sat and watched this movie for the first time ever with you, Nat 😅 it’s kinda been on my list too! And it was pretty good tbh Also that whole scene between Ed Tom and his friend/uncle(?) is pretty important, they literally talk about how they’ve gotten older and the friend says this country ain’t kind to people… no country for old men

Caleb

i've watched this a handful of times and end up feeling different every time. i love how so much is left up to the imagination, especially with the closing scene.

Thomas Snyder

I'm SO GLAD you liked this movie and truly understood it. I've watched this movie a couple times with people who were apparently not that sharp cause they didn't get it at all. The most frustrating thing is people think it's a story about the money and Anton but it's truly a story about Tommy Lee Jones character and I'm so glad you picked up on that. Very satisfying watch along.
