This is the most generic episode of the series. It could have gotten its point across in a quarter of the time of the episode. Also you will never see these characters again

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 Looking forward to diving into more of the 2nd season of "Stranger Things" with you. Definitely looking forward to your this episode reaction later this evening. Have a great day today & weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

This episode gets a lot of hate, not all of it is deserved. Don't get me wrong, there's some bad writing and bad characters and it's obviously a backdoor pilot for a failed spin-off, but it's not the worst episode of any show ever in television history as I've seen it called. The most glaring mistake this episode makes is its release order. This should have been episode 6. The way the last episode builds up, with the betrayal, the ambush, and then the start of the attack on the lab, to have the show switch gears to this is such an abrupt change tonally and then dealing with new characters that you just really don't want to give a damn about because of the high stakes cliffhanger we were left on last episode. If this episode would have been released before The Spy, I think it would have been much better received. But maybe that was the point...I think maybe some Netflix exec pressured the Duffers into exploring spin-offs after the success of season 1 so they intentionally tanked this episode to show them it's just a bad idea, but that's just me trying to make sense of this episode.

Ryan

Only with Nat would I watch this episode again.

Darryl Low

Happy Fings Friday Nat 😊 These sorts of episodes always bring out your best reactions. Really enjoyed today's show. Had some cool character moments, with El lured by the dark side, but she showed her true colours and went back to help her friends. "I hate spiders too" Don't we know it Nat 😀 he he Thanks for your awesome videos this week Nat. You're too good to us. Wherever you are, and whatever you're doing this weekend, take care and have a great one 💛

Julia

Welcome back Natalie! After subscribing for 1.5 years and watching something with you at least once a week, I missed you! I can't wait to jump back into reactions & I hope you got some well deserved escape from the internet. Congratulations to you and Tyler 🥰

Yeah what he said

ButtyOh

This episode. With the amazing plot and the super important character that's never going to appear again or even get mentioned

NewdleZ

Oh hai, Tyler ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Dante

Not even with Nat will I watch this episode again

Honestly this episode isn't that bad. I think it was the perfect time to watch it after a break. If you're binging the show then yes, this episode is an abrupt pause to the rest of the story. That doesn't matter so much after a few weeks between. I didn't like Kali or the plot much, but it gave some nice character building for El. Sure she could be bitter and she is angry. Kali was older and for whatever reason couldn't find the love and acceptance she needed. El has found it in Hawkins. Her friendships are more important to her than revenge. I like how she came to that realization and her journey in this episode. Hope you and Tyler travel safe and enjoy the rest of your time away! Hope you'll get a chance to post next week, but if not we'll see you when you get back!

Marty McGee

Thinking about it I would agree. Those little connecting moments (Hopper's message, the trap) would've worked better as foreshadowing moments than things we already knew about.

Ernesto

Yeah, it was the build up of the season and all of sudden stopping it to handle this. It would have been slick if it came sooner so the audience wouldn't understand the context of "it's a trap" and Harper in scrubs.

John

i dont think its ever bad to "spoil" something if it sets their expections correctly. I dont think Natalie will care if she knows Kali just isnt going to show up again, she can focus on the more important things.

Misty Crom

Heh. I said that that group was a lot like the Brotherhood of Mutants, and Kali a lot like Magneto just before you said pretty much that. Btw, if you want a fun movie with Millie Bobby Brown being cheerier and speaking with her native accent, Enola Holmes is a fun watch. Doesn't break any ground or anything, but it is good. Also has Henry Cavil as a surprisingly well cast Sherlock.

ashton

Exactly! This is a cautionary tale of what Eleven could be if she keeps rejecting help from Hopper, her friends, etc.

xander

i genuinely liked this episode. i've never gotten the amount of hate it gets. sure it's a kind of strange episode to put in that doesn't have anything to do with the main plot, but it gave eleven some needed development.

Shen V

Yeah I hadn't seen this in a few years, and it's not actually that terrible. It gives El a few important moment, and the abrupt cockblock from the setup of the previous episode actually works, or people wouldn't be so mad, so I can appreciate that. Kali is kind of a terrible person the more the episode unfolds, but we do know where she's coming from. At worst, it's a little tropey. The side characters are irrelevant enough to not factor into the episode's quality too much, and at least Kali's actress did a fine job. It's not like this episode made El a side-character in her own show for a whole episode. Bonus point, confirmation that Brenner is alive, complete with a short appearance by Modine. Finale will be wild. Can also already NOT wait for Nat to get to the rest of the show. No rush. *I* can't wait. I'm not the center of the universe. Yet.

William JV

Is there an ETA on when you'll have all your old google docs vids ready?

iAbyy

Hi just wanted to ask when are you planning to react to House of the dragon.

Troy

I tried. Got about twenty minutes in (including Nat's intro.) I might jump to the end of her reaction to see what she thought of it.

Richard Maurer

Love it or hate it, you have to admit this episode keeps with the eighties theme. Small town girl/boy runs away to the big city, falls in with the wrong crowd, realizes that's not who they are, heads for home - pretty common theme during the 80's.

SmokeAndACoffee

This is the only "skippable" episode in the whole series of Stranger Things imo, and it's still a really great episode. I just find that every time I go to rewatch the series, I get so excited to get back to the main story that I end up skipping this one. I'm betting the Kali character is going to be one of the several spin-off series they have mentioned doing once season 5 finishes.

Joshua R

Same. The series currently has 34 episodes and the fact that only 1 is skippable and isn't even because its bad is a testament to just how unnaturally great the show is. TV REALLY has no business being as good as this.

Brian Jones

This episode is the example of what happens when the network (Netflix) tells the creators "hey, you know what? We should totally make a spinoff. Can you set that up?". You end up with an episode that's poorly written, feels completely disconnected from the rest of the show in every way, and is stylistically segregated from everything that makes the show great. And in the end, it bombs and tanks the idea anyway because the core audience spotted the flaws from a mile away.

Rhys

The problem with this episode is no, it's not "bad", its still well made. The only thing in this episode that mattered was Elevens arc and realisation, which could have been done in a way that connected with the main plot, they took her out to this wacky side plot to tell a story they could have told with the main cast
