Happy Natmare Feature Friday Nat 😊 Been looking forward to this one a lot and excited to be watching your reaction today. "How did he die? We're not seeing it." And then you saw it Nat 😄 This movie was a blast to watch with you. Knowing the ending, it was a lot of fun watching you dismiss the killers 😄 The funky janitor dressed like Freddy in the school hallway was actually the director Wes Craven, and the line about how the first Nightmare on Elm Street was the best and the rest sucked was him making fun of the series after he made the first one. "Gale, you gotta be a bitch and you gotta litter?" ha ha Nat 😂 Thanks a for a fantastic reaction today Nat, and thanks for all your great videos this week. Have a brilliant weekend 💛

Boomcity

The movie/franchise that saved the genre. Also please please please Nat, continue the franchise! 🙏

djKENTO

I adore these movies. they were filmed where I lived. They almost filmed at my high school but then at the last minute they were denied so Wes Craven literally added a NO THANKS section to the end where they make a point to NOT THANK Santa Rosa High School. Also I worked at the video store in the movie, Bradley Video. They didn’t say it was Bradley Video in the movie, but later films actually use a modified employee shirt. Made me so happy.

Ian

Happy Friday nat this should be a scream 😱 I'm expecting a few jump scares and a few ear busting moments along the way got my snack which is a weird one popcorn chicken popcorn 🍿 if I hadn't seen it I wouldn't believe it gotta post in discord as proof lol anyways let's get onto the movie . Oh and have a wonderful weekend nat

Danishprince

Been a great Natmares so far! Hope the next one will be OG Friday the 13th in time for an actual Friday the 13th upload in October :D

Diiirk706

Oh for Fuck's sake.

Ben Wheeler

“Is that a young Brittany Murphy?” 😄

Grace Severi

great reaction nat, i knew u would love this one. thanks for a truly amazing week :)

Hugh Jacked-Man

NATTT!!!! We gotta do Gen V. The Boys spinoff. It's so good!

Mike Hell

Fun fact about my childhood: my parents wouldn't let me see this movie when it came out (cuz I was only 13 and they were strict about the R rating shit) so I watched U.S. Marshals instead, which is the unofficial sequel to The Fugitive, which is another great movie you should check out ;) And FYI I ended up sneaking into Scream with a friend a week or so later and it was awesome.

Danishprince

She took notice of it on her Twitter so she's definitely interested - I expect it to either be featured in the next show poll or just be an executive decision on her side to watch it

Dale Smith

Awesome movie! Hope you watch the sequels in the future, one of the few franchises where nearly all the movies are gems, Scream 3 is a point of contention but nothing too bad. Still fun to watch! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Tiger Chu

*Christian Slater

djKENTO

Yes you’re right. I’m barely awake, sick and have only seen that movie once and didn’t like it hahaha. Thanks homie.

Baggie Mark

I love it when Nat says "it's definitely not Billy".......

Jenny Tolls

I can’t believe she hasn’t seen this before. This is a classic!

Nautilus1492

5 stars reaction!!! Hahahaha, I hope you'll watch Scary Movie one day!

The Dingo

Great follow up to Scream for sure!

Jeff K.

"Oh it's Drew Barrymore. What's wrong with me? They kinda look alike but it's a totally different generation." Actually, not really, Nat! Drew is only two years older than Brittany would be if she were still alive. They're from the same generation, weirdly, but Drew just seems so much older since she's been famous for so long.

Jeff K.

"A fire's starting, girl!" For a second I had to think about whether that was an intentional reference to Drew's movie "Firestarter" but I very much doubt that... given Nat thought it was Brittany Murphy at first. Hahaha

americus

wow lol i don’t think nat ever been more wrong during a movie

John Davenport

Please watch the sequels, too! This would be an epic series for you to finish and all of them are fun to watch!

Chris (darkwater)

I was legitimately sad Tatum got killed. She was a great friend for Sid.

Ben Wheeler

Anytime there’s a reaction to a Harrison Ford or Tommy Lee Jones movie I dust off my Fugitive suggestion. Sigh, maybe someday.

Jeff K.

So Kevin Williamson, the creator of this franchise, has confirmed that Stu was in love with Billy (and Billy was either in love with Stu or knew Stu loved him and was manipulating him). He said he based them on Leopold and Loeb. Also: the original working title for this script was Scary Movie. So the fact that the parody ended up being called Scary Movie is pretty poetic.

HeyItsSuper

I forgot how silly this movie gets in the end, fun rewatch. Would love if we get a react to Scary Movie as well

Jeff K.

You're definitely not wrong there. There are a lot of movies people say, "This changed Hollywood" and usually, it's hyperbole. But Scream is one of the movies that absolutely, 100% fits that bill. It changed the way horror movies were made (at least for awhile, before stuff like Hostel and Saw and, Ringu -- and by extension The Ring -- shifted things again in the genre).

Tawny Pool

Such a fun reaction! Thanks Nat!!

Felix Bergman

Scream get better the more classic horror movies you are familiar with, especially Wes Cravens catalogue since he makes fun of his older works in this movie. He actually has a cameo in this, he is the janitor that the principal talks to just before getting killed, and his name is Fred and he has Freddy Kreuger's signature hat and striped shirt on from Nightmare on Elm Street.

Ben Wheeler

Famous last words for sure lol

Felix Bergman

I think I read somewhere that Drew Barrymore was offered the lead role, but chose to be Casey instead as it would be more shocking if the big name actress was killed in the first 10 min just for some lesser known name to then be main character. I laughed when you called her Firestarter in the beginning since she played the titular character in the 1984 adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter. Was that an intentional reference or a total coincidence?

BettleBug

I absolutely need more scream reactions!! There all so good and campy. I absolutely adore this franchise and I'm glad you had fun watching this one:))

Baggie Mark

We've seen it so many times with Nat lol..

Jeff K.

Not gonna lie I was aghast when Nat called the principal a creep, knowing it's famous Hollywood Nice Guy, Henry Winkler, who by all accounts is one of the best people you could ever hope to meet. The Fonz slander will not stand!

john Alexander

I love these old cheesy movies. You should add" I Know What You Did Last Summer"to the poll

Daniel McGuinness

Ah, the 90s. When having a cellphone was enough to make you a prime murder suspect 😌 Also a lot of non-horror fans are under the impression that all Horror movies are full of cheap thrills and needless amounts of gore (who doesn’t like a little gore?), and are hesitant to call a good scary movie a “Horror”, it’s always a Thriller or a horror/comedy. But the horror genre is the most versatile one there is! Anything from the existential dread of Hereditary to the fun, kinda scary, whodunnit slashers. It’s all Horror 😁 I love when we get to see your opinions on spooky movies, natmares needs to be biannual! 😂

Jeff

Why kill Casey and Steve in the beginning? Early in the movie they mention that Casey dumped Stu. I presumed they killed Casey and Steve because of that. Also killing Drew Barrymore to open the movie was very surprising in 1996.

Daniel McGuinness

Scream is such a good gateway horror for people unfamiliar with the genre. It’s a great slasher movie on its own merit, not too scary, and helps a lot of people ease into scary movies! And it’s the gift that keeps on giving because it gets better the more familiar you become the genre 😊 Okay trivia time, there’s a lot for this one but I’m only naming a few 😅 The voice of Ghostface is played by voice actor Roger L. Jackson. He loves interacting with fans and used to offer Cameo’s in the Ghostface voice for like $3 each! This movie is chock full of Halloween references. First is at the beginning when Casey’s dad tells her mother to get in the car and “drive down to the Mackenzies.” A reference to Laurie telling the kids to “Go down the street to the Mackenzies.” after she stabs Michael Next is the after Billy climbs through Sidney’s window for the first time. ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ by Blue Öyster Cult is playing in the background, the same song that was playing in the car when Annie and Laurie were driving in Halloween. And of course the obvious direct references at the party 🤣 Wes Craven, who directed both Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street, cameo’s in this as the Janitor, Fred. Sporting a hat and a red and green-striped sweater.. the same outfit as Freddy Krueger The football jersey crop top that Tatum wears to school is a reference to an identical one worn by Johnny Depp’s character in Nightmare on Elm Street Tatum drives a VW Bug in the movie. The same kind of car that Ted Bundy used to drive. Courtney Cox wanted this role because she didn’t want people to always see her as “Monica from Friends”, and she also apparently wanted to know if she had what it took to play a quote unquote Bitch… she does! Slay! And just a funny tidbit: In the scene where the Sheriff is smoking and Dewey has a cone, Dewey takes a lick of his ice cream every time the Sheriff takes a draw of his cigarette 🥹😂 Loved the reaction, love this movie, love Natmares 😌 You should definitely react to the rest of the franchise, they’re mostly all good!

Jomero

Since I know you like Friends, this movie is where Courtney Cox met David Arquette and they began dating afterward, and eventually got married (and eventually divorced). Friends had an episode shortly after where they added "Arquette" to all the cast members' names in the intro.

Logan Kerlee

I'm so happy that you finally watched this! Hilarious horror movie, for sure. I was never scared of this movie but I was shocked by it as a kid. I mean, I first watched this the year after it was made. I was only 9 years old at the time - that's why. xD It's CRAZY that you didn't know the history behind this movie! Back in the day this wasn't considered a comedy, mostly because of how vanilla folks were. It wasn't super scary either - no, it was just a campy slasher movie that was rated R. Very happy that you enjoyed this one though! I'll do my best to pick something that'll terrify you before the end of Natmares this year. :P Can't let it be too easy! xD

RationallySassy

So happy you watched this and enjoyed it! It's one of my favourite horror movies to rewatch and to watch reactors see for the first time - it's so fun to see them guess who the killer is just like you did, haha. I like how this movie gets you thinking, but also is trying to subvert expectations (or not subvert them eh?). It makes fun of itself, still has real consequences for the characters so it's still serious, and it knows how to shift tones well enough. Always enjoyable, so thank you for watching! Would love it if you kept watching the franchise at some point :)

RabidMango

Solid opening. I enjoyed it. ;]

Ashcroft Production-House

FYI Loomis is famous last name when it comes to horror and it shows up all the time.

Taff Lewis

Loved the channeling of "Thor's" over-rotation at the opening. IMHO...Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon channels this same fun vibe so very well, but you've got a lot to watch before you get to that. Evil Dead, mostly 2, will help quite a bit.

Ashcroft Production-House

I also love that the janitor is dressed as freddy and played by the freddy director

Seebackward

Out of all the classic horror franchises out there. I highly reccomend that this is the one you watch all of them. They all have the fun camp witha classic whodunnit. They may not be as tightly crafted as the original, but you will love the core characters and mystery the same. It's a fun ride.

Alan Felicia

That was a really Awesome and Hilarious review by Nat! What a Fun way to revisit this movie! Her reaction to Principal FONZ being killed was LMAO funny!!

Keith Jacobsen

"Peer pressure. I'm far too sensitive..."

Essero Eson

The "Look behind you, Jaime." Scene is more meta than you prolly realize because that actor's name is Jaime too.

Kevin Bartelen

This is more of a deconstruction than a parody. It takes itself just seriously enough for the parody to also work. That and the parody mashes this with "I Know What You Did Last Summer" There are also videos that analyze the movie to determine which of the killers you are seeing in any given scene. They took a lot of care to give use the clues we need to figure it out once we know there are two. As for why they kill Casey and Steve... Casey just dumped Stu for Steve, and also Casey sits next to Sidney in class.

Annie519

That's honestly what's so genius about it. He is purposely so obvious that you automatically think it's not him so when he is revealed you are genuinely shocked.

Annie519

Some great fun facts, most of Matthew Lillard's dialog was improvised, especially at the end. Like "I always had a thing for you Syd." Which does track from earlier with Syd's first attack when he's on top of her he hesitates and runs the knife down her chest a little bit and that had to be Stu. Other lines were his also like "peer pressure, I'm far too sensitive.", "my mom and dad are going to be so mad at me." And my favorite, "you hit me with the phone dick." Which was a real reaction because that wasn't suppose to happen. Skeet Ulrich's hands were slippery and the phone hit him accidentally so Matthew just went with it. I swear Matthew Lillard is a treasure and is so amazingly over the top.

Annie519

Great line! And improvised by Matthew! But a lot of his dialog was improvised.

CHRISXGAMESALOT

NOW DO SCARY MOVIE 1 PLEASE!!!!Sorry for your yelling.

Grace Severi

this is definitely a movie series to continue if u ever decide to do one for horror

fanofactionflicks

got dang i don't think she's seen friday the 13th, that's ashame.

Jeff C

This movie is honestly a masterpiece in so many ways. The way they use the audio of other movies playing in the background to create the tension of the scene you're watching is superb, the soundtrack of this movie itself is great, the humour is on point and the subject matter just serious enough to get you invested and also has some really emotional points as well, such as Casey not being able to call out to her parents, all the stuff with Sids mother, Tatum being the best best friend in cinematic history dying in such a horrible way. This movie gets better every time I watch it, I swear.

MM23

Hey Nat, you should watch Prisoners!

Lisa Tosti

I hadn't seen this movie since high school and I get so many more references now in this than I did then. Also, the moment when the principal sees the janitor in the hallway and says "Hi Fred" i lost it! So funny!

Jeff

Two good black comedy slasher/horror films are Happy Death Day and Spontaneous.

Artisanbloodbank

I love how Courtney Cox and David Arquette actually fell in love making this movie. When they got divorced it broke my heart.

Darryl Low

Happy Death Day is so good.

Wex

As I recall, Drew Barrymore also did most of the publicity for this movie and was the most prominent character in the advertising posters, so it really threw everybody off when her character died in the first five minutes.

Boomcity

I loved that he kept checking his hair in the mirror as a subtle callback to The Fonz from Happy Days.

Boomcity

"Old cheesy movies" I feel so old hearing someone refer to it as that. 👴

Boomcity

Happy Death Day and Ready or Not are some of the best horror movies in the same vein as Scream.

Aaron Farrell

I would like to suggest adding ready or not to a poll for natmaires. It's a really fun horror comedy that I think you would really enjoy. Also really glad you enjoyed scream, It's one of my all time favorite horror franchises.

Ariana Mitchell

this was a first watch for me too. i''ve seen clips and knew the ending and beginning so i didn't really bother but the dialogue was really fun and i love some campy horror rip tatum my beloved. sydney is an og final girl, love her sm i want to protect her with my life

Ariana Mitchell

the fact i can literally drive to sidney's house lol. i knew those mountains looked all too familiar

Jenny Tolls

Really?? It looked so damn beautiful lol where is it?

Ariana Mitchell

outdoor sidney's house scenes were filmed in santa rosa, ca on calistoga road. they found the rich rich people's houses to film. a lot of the film was shot in norcal near healdsburg and such

Ben Hooppell

I love this movie, this is the 3rd time I've watched it and is a movie that I whole-heartedly recommend watching a second time. There are so so so many new things you see and hear like gale at the end saying "it started with a 911 call and ended with a bloodbath" which is literally this film. One of my favourite moments though is when Dewey and the other cop are talking and Dewey is eating his ice cream like the other cop is smoking his cigarette. Just an amazing movie.

Troy

Right? I still remember when they were modern deconstructions of older, cheesier movies.

Troy

This movie falls into a category I like to call "Horror movies for people who are slightly wusses about horror movies in general." aka "the only genre of horror I deliberately watch." It's still potentially scary in bits, but it mostly takes the edge of with its referential nature. For some reason it helps me that it's just ordinary humans being awful.

Danishprince

"The two movies that have won Natmares polls so far this season have not been that scary" - WHY DO YOU THINK WE HAVE TRIED TO MAKE THEM WIN FOR SEVERAL YEARS! :D We knew you would enjoy them <3

Austin

My favorite horror franchise! Nat you would love all 6 films, consider giving them a watch even if it's not spooky season! Had a blast with this one.

Ben Wheeler

Maybe Scooby Doo or 13 Ghosts next??

Noah Catalino

If you loved this, you should add Ready or Not to the poll! It’s a great horror comedy with similar vibes imo

billmack

There's a throwaway line early in the movie that gives motive for Casey and Steve getting killed. Sidney - "Hey Stu didn't you used to date Casey?" Stu - "Yeah for like two seconds" Randy - "Before she dumped him for Steve"

Natalie Gold

I picked up on this while editing and literally face palmed myself! Haha

Josh M

Yessss! So glad you did this one, definitely one of the greatest horror films of all time IMO. Great deconstruction of the genre while still having plenty of scares, tension, and awesome characters. The sequels are great too, I don't think there's a single bad one.

Josh R

Really hope you will check out the sequels. Not a bad entry in the franchise. The two weak links being 3 and 6.

Josh R

The 3rd movie is just very comedic and less 'horror' like and 6 I found a little boring but they're both still great!

Victoria

I loved this reaction! The Scream series is one of my absolute favorites. As you said, it's not your typical horror movie. It does a great job of poking fun at horror films in general and explaining it's own existence 😆 I hope you're planning to watch more at some point. Love, love, LOVED it! ❤

Victoria

Omg Happy Death Day is hilarious! Definitely worth watching just to laugh at the tropes

TyB

This is my absolute favorite series of all time I really hope to see more soon

Meghan Catherin

I love love scream! The meta of it all makes it so much better:)

Marcio T

My favorite franchise! I hope Nat watches all the other movies from this franchise.

Andrew Bracken

They pulled it off paramount. Can’t find it anywhere to watch. Wack AF

jamie jones

Late to watch this, “you’re gonna be dead soon, might as well get some while you can” is my favourite line from you nat.

Marcus Powell

I haven’t seen this movie in a really long time. That was a fun watch.

Jeremy Montanez

Natalie I think you'd love Scream 2 and 4. The new screams are excellent as well but not as comedic and more horror. This is actually my least favorite Scream because horror is my genre but it was a joy to watch it with you.

Daniel Vezina

Funny thing, When they first shot the scene Rose McGowan could actually fit into the cat door, she had to fake not making it.
