Bitwig Studio 6 is still in beta, and with all the new features and GUI improvements, it’s taking longer than usual to reach a stable release.

The latest beta has addressed many issues that bothered me in earlier versions, especially around automation and clip editing, making it much more enjoyable to use.

There are still a few bugs and small inconsistencies, but overall, the workflow feels more streamlined. I expect the final version to come out early next year rather than before Christmas, but the progress so far is promising.

Bitwig Studio 6 is still in beta, currently at beta 9, making it the longest-running Bitwig beta so far.

Many new GUI features have been added, leading to a higher number of bugs to fix before a stable release.

The final release is likely expected early next year rather than before Christmas, though a surprise release is still possible.

A new "flying automation lanes" mode was introduced, improving automation editing by allowing more intuitive and flexible control.

Users can now view and edit recently touched parameters more easily and efficiently, similar to how it worked in Bitwig Studio 5.

Automation recording and editing is now smoother and more natural, with improvements to touch and write modes.

A setting has been added to control whether new clips open automatically in the detail editor, allowing users to return to the previous workflow.

Improvements to automation node editing, including a keyboard shortcut to toggle between hold and normal nodes.

Volume control in track headers can once again be displayed as a slider or as numeric input, based on user preference.

"Meta clips" in group tracks handle automation and movement differently than normal clips, with some inconsistencies noted.

UI and workflow updates in the clip launcher, including improved retriggering and better playback control.

The detail editor has a new navigation arrow for recalling previous view states for easier workflow management.

Overall, many small, quality-of-life enhancements and bug fixes have been added, making Bitwig Studio 6 more pleasant and efficient to use.

What happened to Bitwig 6?

With Bitwig Studio 6 currently in its longest beta phase ever, I'm discussing the likelihood of a stable release before Christmas versus an early 2025 launch. I’ll walk you through the Beta 9 updates that finally fixed my biggest workflow complaints, specifically the new "Flying Automation Lane" and the much-needed changes to clip editor behavior. It’s been a long wait, but the software is finally feeling polished and fun to use again without the frustrations I had back in Beta 1. Let me know in the comments if you think they’ll surprise us with a holiday release! My upgrade plan ends on the 27th, so they need to get a move on.

I can confirm, my plan expired earlier in the beta phase but I'm still getting all new beta updates.

I was about to say that! I'm very glad they listened to us long term bitwiggers and made some changes that make sense. Automation was sooo annoying when they released the first beta. Tbf I've been using the beta's as my daily driver for a while now. Looking forward to the stable release. Christmas day would be fun but i have my doubts...

I think you are right and Bitwig 6 will release in 202(6). The automation makes sense now.

Beta 9 definitely feels like it's getting closer compared to betas 6 and 7. I was kind of scratching my head a bit with some of the bugs in those betas.

Thanks for this video. The volume fader was a thing I was missing a lot. The visualisation option for the automations is a must! Nice thumb :-)

i put the .js file into C:\Users\owner\OneDrive\Documents\Bitwig Studio\Controller Scripts. no joy. Bitwig 6 Beta 8. Did this folder move? Not seeing Polarity as Vendor option. Thanks!
