Status: Pre-tech - Part 5 (Patreon)

We've been working on the last pre-tech update for a few weeks now and will wrap up its content in the following weeks! 

Here's a few things to know about this upcoming release:

It will be the last batch of scenes released before the tech update. 

It contains 7 animated scenes for the warehouse characters (Svetlana, Katya and Khadne).

The 3 characters who have scenes will not be able to get pregnant yet (but will later on).

The larger Tech Update is still being developed but we are getting closer to its closure. I will post a proper status update for it in the near future so everyone has a clear picture as to what exactly will be included in the Tech Update on release and the following development.

Okay yeah but he's giving up more stuff with each update. Making a game takes time, making sure there are no bugs and if there are any going back and fixing them is a lot. There are times when you fix one thing and something else comes up. But on top of that the creator may have a job outside of this So chill out and atleast he is being up front about it I know some projects that don't tell you shit

I very much doubt he would need to work. Even if he’s only truly bringing in a very small fraction of that 75k a month(which I doubt), it’s still a sizeable income. If he does have an outside job, telling us that work has been busy instead of dropping morsels of content every few months instead of actual major iterative updates would be more ideal. He IS taking 75k a month. Think about it, he used to output more content faster a long time ago and he was making LESS money then. How does more money= shower updates?

Honestly we don’t need pre-tech updates. People will hop on the game, play and complete its content within an hour, and then never touch it again until the next update. It’d be far more efficient to just put all channels of work into the upcoming update rather than side channels that add very little in terms of the actual game.

I think the main issue is people are getting sick of the very little content being produced the last year or so. They are getting more money than most indie studios and have a lot more down time between content (and without clients or set deadlines this can go on indefinitely). They’ve been on around 100k(aud) a month since around like 2018 and the project started in 2016-2017 (or at least that’s when I heard about it). Also they still have at least 2 years of content planned already (at the current rate they are going) and I’m guessing a lot more content to come after, so I can understand why people on the higher tiers would be starting to get annoyed. But yeah people asked for this so I’m not sure why people are complaining (unless they voted for content but even then they still know) the beauty of patreon is that if you feel like you’re not getting your moneys worth just un-sub or drop tier, the whole point is to support projects you enjoy

To all the people complaining and the ones complaining about the complaints, I get it. I am a developer, I have trained developers and software engineers and have worked on games, logistics tracking, and other BS. This is getting drawn out FAR too long. I started paying DC back in February 2019 and this game was supposed to be completed in 2020. Three and a half years later, the game has a bit more content but not enough to justify the amount of money DC rakes in every month.

Doing it right rather than doing it fast makes sense. Every new layer of complexity slows things down but makes the game deeper. At some point this game will be complete and a new game will be in the offing but for now I am enjoying the journey. For $1 a month? That is so cheap. Considering I have probably over 80 hours of gameplay in so far? Wow. This is one of the best bargains in gaming since buying a copy of minecraft many years back.

Reading the complaints from others voicing their 'opinions' is driving me nuts. You have no idea how much money is being made by DC, all you see is what is paid into this site. How much is taken by Patreon? how much is DC paying the team, How much is DC paying for servers and overhead? for example 75,000.00 a month into patreon for 1 year is 900,000 -10% to patreon (90,000.00) leaves 810,000.00, 12 team members making 65,000.00 a year (well below developers pay) equals 780,000.00 leaving only 30,000.00 to overhead. DC is not just sitting back drinking Champaign and eating caviar. he is on stream almost everyday showing his work. My point to all of this is don't judge anything until you have the facts, the full store. It's the same with watching anything on social media or the real media for that matter.

They drop $1, $5, $10 or $20 a month but seem to think they’re funding the entire project. Skipping old content (attached saved files): Saga 0.20.9 comes with a new "New Content" mode designed to drop you right into the action without needing to replay the rest of the main story. Either way, I don't really care about how much money, that's fine by me, they can make as much as we pay them. But this little content per year with a team of 12 is _not_ industry standard. Look at how many have liked my post, I am not alone in wondering why this game has become Duke Nukem. I dropped my donation to a dollar long ago, and just cancelled. Skeeta_bite, I understand alpha status, I also understand if a product has been pushed back repeatedly then someone needs to take a serious look at the team and why a product has not moved like it should... was it under estimating the amount of work? was it team turnover? was there an underlying problem that required a completely rewrite? did the author just decide that this is working well as an income as long as he keeps putting out pieces here and there to keep the masses engaged, especially with the complaints. Putting out a game is one thing but dragging one out causes a lot of complaints which brings more people to look into the game which brings more subscribers. All of you telling us to just leave, really should take a few marketing classes and sales.

The issue is that not all portions of the team are equally occupied. For example, the art for the Tech Update is all done. Artwork is one of the more time consuming aspects that has to be done before most other aspects of the game can move forward. DC making a bunch of extra artwork doesn't slow down the Tech Update. Equally, posing for new scenes that don't advance the story, and thus don't need new machines or variables to program can be easily added with excess capacity in the production staff while waiting for the Tech Update to advance.

I think he has to take his time. Like everyone says, it's free game. Once he completes the Tech Update he will basically be laying himself off. He may start new interest with an Annie or Judith storyline, but his payroll (and lifestyle) is probably dependent on what he's making now.

haha bad call. I agree, if you are not satifised with a product don't pay. I stopped being a patron here but still follow news occasionally (why I'm just now seeing this post). This is probably the best and most 'complete' modern-western adult game with animations. Pretty much everything else hasn't even passed the first chapter and are too busy making holiday themed stuff. I'll glady pay again for the completed version. telling people to give up now is hilarious. people hate having their party getting called out. There are some gofundme creators who took the money and ran long ago, but still get paid. Of course Darkcookie isn't like that though. As long as their team keeps making games, they should get paid because its good product.

Actually I am a professional developer and I criticized the development already half a year ago or so. Yes a tech update isn't something you do in a week, no a tech update for a 2D game like this doesn't take 2 years. There are complete months with 0-2% change! It's not about instant gratification, Ben, it's the fact that DC is raking in a MINIMUM of $30,000US per month for this, with less to show for it than some small-team indie devs who pull in less than $300. Don't get me wrong, DC has made a very entertaining game, but it's not a hugely complex or demanding one. Let's put the money in context: $30,000 per month is a solid upper-middle class income for an entire family living in the most expensive city in America. It's enough to support 3 solidly middle-class families in most of the country, and 6 lower-middle class families. The idea that DC can't hire more artists/programmers/animators - even just temporarily - to speed things up is ludicrous. At this point I've donated a couple hundred dollars to DC for this game. I could have bought 3 brand new AAA titles for what I've spent on an indie game that has seen only minimal progress in the past year. A long overdue basic cost-benefit analysis tells me that this project is no longer worth investing in. Maybe I'll come back for one-time donations to get access to the major updates when they finally come through, but I'm done mindlessly dumping money into a hole every month.

The game has been in development for several years and has seen many changes and releases. There are thousands of lines of code and thousands of drawings/pictures that all need to work together well before a new version of the game can be released. Either you don’t have much patience or you have a very short attention span so to be helpful, see methods listed below to help you overcome your lack of information status. One method is to research current progress using the wiki selection in the main menu at the Summertime Saga website and read about current changes, problems or errors found, reported and corrected. Another excellent way is to visit the Summertime Saga website and under the main menu select stream. Stream selection will take you to the picarto.tv site where DC frequently posts videos of ongoing scene work. There are 17 videos currently, each about 1 1/2 hours in length with ongoing conversations between DC and members of his team, input from fans, etc. Most recent videos focus quite a bit on Kim’s sister fighting, wrestling and sexing MC along with background scenes. If you take the time to listen to the videos, you can hear DC discuss details, preferences, and other issues ongoing in the development of future, upcoming events. From time to time you may even pick up on clues about future developments in their conversation. You can be included in an alert text system alerting fans when DC is live streaming where instead of just watching video, you can hear DC streaming live and can make comments, offer suggestions, listen to music playing on the stream etc. Hoping you took the time to read and understand this message and that it was helpful in getting you up to speed on current SS progress.

when it’s ready is best answer i can think of. we were warned quite a while ago that the tech work would take longer due to the size and complexity of the game and the multiple programming styles used by multiple people over years. debugging and writing the code to include older versions of games and code is quite involved and in many cases required changing and updating large parts of the naming conventions, etc.
