I wanted to share this with you guys because it's super important yet very often overlooked. I had actually overlooked this when I painted the first piece back in late 2021.

The key to drawing urban environments is finding your perspective. You have to determine the type of perspective you're looking at, one point perspective, two point, or three point and fisheye.

The point refers to the "vanishing point." Which is where all of your perspective lines merge into a singular point. In this painting specifically, I initially ignored the one point perspective in this composition. and as a result the original piece's background didn't make as much sense. It was still readable, but the structure of the buildings and streets were much more ambiguous and unclear.

I think this fundamental aspect of environment painting is way too often overlooked because it can usually come off as too dry and technical, less fun to learn. But it is truly very important.

Hope this video sheds a bit of light on the correction process, I've attached some examples of the perspective used in this video.

I really loved the original last year but side by side I can see how far you’ve come and are still learning just like us. Inspiring to know someone you look up to as an artist is on the same journey as you, just a lot further ahead. 😊
