Hello everyone- Happy Friday- I just wanted to come on ask a few questions.

I have noticed that likes and especially comments are way down on my tutorial posts. I am looking to see if the subject matter is not appealing?? I always try to balance out the posts- give some of each subject because my feed cannot be all flowers, urban sketching, etc. It also cannot be intimidating for others either. I try to put out a few advanced then easy tutorials.

having likes and comments lets me know if the material is something you like. So if you do like the tutorial please post a comment.

what subject matter would you like to see more of- I already have tons in all categories except portraits of people and pets- sorry its not my thing.

what is the thing you struggle the most with in watercolor.

What is your goal for future paintings?

Thanks for the feedback :)

To be honest i all always looking forward to every single tutorial. I enjoy them all, everytime i learn something, water control!!!! blending, shadows, i love!!!!!! Shadows! I am easy to please, everything i paint is a bonus for me ☺️

Karen Rich

Ellen, I love the variety of your tutorials. Usually, I don’t think about adding a like, but the people on the bridge is so unique that I did think about it. I would like more help in teaching me how to think creatively. It would help to have more lessons like the bridge tutorial teaching us how to translate photos to unique paintings. Overall, I believe you are a great teacher, and I love your tutorials 💕

Debra Eudy

I learn something every time I follow one of your tutorials. Sometimes life gets busy and I don’t comment. I struggle with water control, even though I’ve been painting for a few years. I also have a hard time with composition - the size and details when trying to draw my own. I get lost and don’t notice it until I’m done. Keep up the great work. I love everything you do.

Sue Jordan

I was thrilled to see figure work recently. I like to add figures to my landscapes, but they intimidate me! As for future subject matter, I like anything coastal but I do know you have many in the past that I can go to. I will try to pay attention to liking and commenting, I honestly didn’t know it mattered to you! 🙂

debiknoth

I’m new and happy with your choices. I have the most trouble with free flow-I generally am ok with my results, but they always look darker and heavier than your examples. I’d like them to be more flowing…also would like help with using shadows and getting more depth in my painting. Thanks!!! And glad you’re feeling better in that arm…

Paula

Im very happy with your tutorials, for me this is just a very busy time of year and I’m unable to watch right now but will when things slow down soon♥️

Patti

I too would like help in thinking more creatively. More on developing our own style and ways to interpret subject matters.

Cindy Bennett

I mostly make cards, gift tags, bookmarks. I like your cute holiday card tutorials, or birthday cards. How about a set of 10 notecards with a floral or ocean theme? Thanks for asking for requests.

Dorothy Badry

Thanks Ellen for identifying the importance of those comments and feedback. I love the seasonal themes throughout the years. I also really liked the direction on how to do the people in the fall watercolour sketches. I do my best work following your tutorials and where I struggle is doing a painting on my own - where to start after the drawing, what to lay down first and so on. A lesson on how to structure the painting generally with your own topic would be great. I’m fairly new to the group and maybe you’ve done this before. Another thing I’m always trying to figure out is what size paper to use and generally use a half sheet of Arches cold pressed as I’m most comfortable with that size. You have such a range of subjects to paint and the advice to not overthink is great. I love nature and birds but find them hard to paint. You’ve had some great bird tutorials. I will endeavour to make comments which I’ve rarely done but sure appreciate everyone’s comments and sharing their paintings. My goal is to just keep practicing and try to get to some tutorials but was away past 10 weeks on international travel. I photograph birds as a hobby and have a lot of photos from Canada and Australia which I’m happy to share. Your Patreon site and extra time and direction for members at the end is great!

Sue Shininger Holcombe

I love your teaching style! I didn’t realize that reactions were important to you. Sorry, I’ll do better. Translating a photo into a painting is interesting to me but difficult. I like most of your subjects. Thank you!

Jayne Nye

I like to send cards for holidays and I love the content you have already provided, many good choices, but still looking for something new and different. Especially around Halloween and Thanksgiving. I’m terrible at mixing colors to get to the right color I need. You do that pretty fast in your videos. I always slow it down, so good there, but if you can talk more about mixing colors in general I think it would help. Thank you for asking.

Nancy Bradley

Hi Ellen, I went back over a year and liked all the paintings that I've either done or wanted to do. I like pretty much all your beginner stuff and even some intermediate. I was in your Quebec retreat last winter and really look forward to all your tutorials.

Lynn

I usually use your tutorials before any others. In fact, you were the first artist I followed and taught me the basics-Thanks. I struggle with water and waves and foaming water. We live by Lake Michigan and all the different views of the lake are so different and hard to capture. Stormy and dark, sunny, overcast, flat-and on and on. Maybe a step by step. Thanks. Heal well.

Carla Simpson

I love and appreciate the variety of your tutorials! The colors, the subjects, the techniques - everything. I echo others' comments that I learn something from every tutorial I watch. I am often astounded by the volume of work you churn out. Your creative well is deep!

Leigh

I love the variety and the amount of tutorials you offer! Some creators are just strictly florals and/or landscapes- you keep us guessing! Loved the loose one you did this week with the people on the bridge. Thursdays are my favorite day because we get the Patreon tutorial!

Kendra Kratzwald

Same! I will do better with leaving likes and comments!!

Mary Beth

First of all, I LOVE your tutorials. I have learned so much from you. My confidence in my skills continues to grow. Your tutorials are interesting, varied, and fun! I love your funny friendly demeanor and I love that you paint live so that we can see that you sometimes make mistakes, too. My biggest struggle is making decisions on what techniques to use on my own paintings. As for future subject matter how about mountain landscapes and of course, seasonal topics? Glad your wrist is healing!❤️‍🩹

Tracey Farmer

I love your work. I refer back to older subjects as I most enjoy flowers. As another comment stated I love the people being placed in the paintings such as the girl in the book stack and the girl in the field also love the abstract figures. My go to is always the flowers but I know everyone has preferences. Love your work and thank you for putting yourself out there to benefit all of us!!

Mary Jo Altom

I’ve been enjoying them all. Nothing is too elementary for me. And I enjoy trying anything challenging as well!

Felinefoster

I, too, enjoy and try to remember to "like" all your posts. I love the variety you provide and if the subject doesn't happen to interest me I just find another one of your tutorials. I am a new watercolor artist and I struggle with everything but enjoy learning. Anything you teach is a bonus for me!

Lisa Carnevale

Hi Ellen! I feel that you do put out a variety of tutorials! I always enjoy them and learn lots! I will get better about likes and comments! I would love to paint a little more freely instead of wanting it to be perfect. You are so great at it, so more of those would be great!

Olivia Wallace

i love them i sometimes forget to like them.

Pam

You have excellent variety and I enjoy watching your videos though I am often intimidated to try them. Clouds are my current bugaboo

Christine Drewe

I love your tutorials, but don’t often get a chance to paint them. I enjoy learning new techniques. I will go and put a like on the ones that I do 😊

Kathryn Badger

I don’t necessarily do the tutorials in order to, I pick and choose as the mood takes me. I like all your posts but especially those that explore wet on wet and perspective.

Jan Connors

How do I write this without sounding like a weirdo! Can honestly say I crave your tutorials. I wish there were one every day so many times it’s just nothing else available on YouTube. Thank goodness for your back tutorials. I’m bad about remembering to click like. I like them all but that doesn’t mean I like painting it but I like them and your ability to push to trying something new and different is very courageous of you and I appreciate it. I will try to remember to click a like or a clap or thumbs up from now on.keep it up!👍

Gloria Loeser

Ellen I agree that you bring a great variety to your tutorials. I have enjoyed having people and small animals like dogs and cats in your different paintings. It adds depth and makes it more interesting even if they are only a vague image. Thank you for sharing about leaving comments. I will try to do better next time.

Stephanie

I can't wait to do more tutorial and I'm sorry I haven't been liking and watching. I'm married, have a 6 year old and work more than full time so i've been struggling to take time for myself. But your tutorials will be just what i need to destress, learn and focus on me.

Martha Flanagan

Love all your tutes! I would like fog or mist or rain with fog? TIA😊

Jan

I’d have to agree, thinking more creatively and shadows, I always enjoy people in paintings, it lends atmosphere.

Maureen Broom

i am still trying to figure things out, i did a one year patron payment, and i think i sgined in on facebook with the key words that were given to me, but i don't seem to be linked in, not sure what page to go to to start this rolling, if you can help, thanks!

Diana Brooks

Ellen, you're my first teacher here on Patreon, and I've learned so much from you in nine months. My progress has amazed me! I paint every day, and I feel lost if I can't. I recently took a trip to visit my family in Indy and brought all of my paintings with me. All of them were very impressed with my paintings. My great-niece helped herself to more than a few of them. LOL! She's only 6 years old and is quite the artist and storyteller. I do try to like your posts when I see them. I'm interested in layering techniques and wet on wet. I like the way they create an atmospheric painting. You're a delightful teacher and I like that you don't edit out your mistakes. It's helped me countless times when I make them too.

Amy McKee

I struggle most with water control and drawing. I usually draw with pencil then lighten my lines and then use watercolor. Sometimes I use ink first. Composition, perspective, shadows, etc are all skills that I can always use help with. As far as subjects, I just try whatever you’ve got on tap for us! 😊

Suzanne Burchman

Ellen, your tutorials are easy to follow and I appreciate that you encourage us to have fun. My challenge is I don’t draw with perspective so sometimes everything is off. But I’m not discouraged. I do try to react to everyone’s post on the FB group. And I love the comments on my posts too. Thanks.

Barbara

I always learn something from the tutorials, even if I don’t paint it but apply the technique elsewhere. I would like to see more on layering different mediums like watercolor pencils and oil pastels.

Nina Bleeker

Ellen thank you very much for your tutorials. I like the variety. I am trying to be more consistent in following your works. You have no idea how patient you are with me, when I stop every video so many times and getting frustrated with myself. I love your comments , they help me to relax. You should see my husband this morning, when he saw one of my sketch book works and complemented on one of my jobs , which I really didn’t liked in my own representation. When I asked him what does he like about it, he answered that it looks mysterious. Well, it was not what you had in mind…. But it is what happened in my sketchbook and now I don’t feel bad about it!

Dianne Seaman

I enjoy all your tutorials. You have fun. As others have mentioned I struggle with color mixing. My goal is usually some kind of card for birthdays, etc.

Karen Garrison

Love the variety ! I have trouble with water control and then blending of course in washes. I appreciate you soooooo much I’m a beginner about a year now. I loved gaggle of geese , all the landscapes and not interested in beach scenes I live in the Midwest. So probably that’s why. Anything of nature . You are the best

Carol Collins

I love the various levels of painting you share with us. It inspires me to try the more difficult ones or go back and practice different techniques that you need to paint on your own. I have learned so much from you over this past year. I year of painting, check. Now to improve and improve.

Sonya

Honestly, I’ve discovered that I don’t have a lot patience due to ADD. I would love seee some more loose, and I mean pretty loose works on any subject.

Marie Louise Davidson

Ellen, I am so glad you sent this to us! I totally understand the importance of "liking" videos on Youtube , even when I don't plan to do them. Some of the reasons I decided to join your Patreon and to go on one of your retreats this past summer is because of your teaching style, your attention to drawing (which I actually like!), your wide range of subject matters, and your attention to exposing us to varying techniques and styles and keeping us motivated. However, I still struggle a lot and get easily discouraged. I will sometimes repeat a tutorial 3-4 times to get it "right" off give up! I am also guilty of looking at too many tutorials, yours and other artists, and telling myself that I won't succeed that I don't even attempt some of them, especially if there are people or figures involved. I still stink at flowers! I also like the fact that you stick to the same brand of WC and paints so that I can become more confident at using those paints and mixing them. Thank you for all you do and for making art fun!

Marie Louise Davidson

Oops! I would also love some help using a photo of mine or another image and learning how to plan and convert it to a WC painting taking color, composition, and value in mind. Thanks!

Lorraine Coiro

Ellen, keep doing what you are doing because you do it so well. From my perspective, you are doing a great job including different subjects and levels of expertise. I learn something from every single tutorial I do. Everyone has different opinions on what they like, and that's what makes this world so colorful and exciting.

Maya Cohen

Water control is a big issue for me - too much or too little! Perhaps subject matters can have a particular water control focus? Water control techniques in florals and in skies are different yes? No? I also don’t think to like or comment only because 1. Did not realize you need that feedback on your end. 2. Who wants to hear my comments!!! BAHAHA

Alicia Bush

I appreciate all of your tutorials and your consistency in posting them. You find unique subject matter for us. I watch, but I forget to like or comment most of the time. I will try to do better. I know that it is important to content creators on YT. Thank you for sharing your talent with us and your diligence in posting content! :)

Laura Roper

As I've gotten better at watercolor, I'm more interested in your more challenging tutorials. For some reason, doing shadows keeps tripping me up. Especially, trying to get dappled shadows from foliage on the ground or walls end up looking like a blobby mess. I like your monthly pick-a-photo tutorials b/c they tend to be a bit more challenging.

Molly

I too, love most all of your tutorials. Thank you Ellen! I feel one of my biggest issues is, I tend to overdo. You always say to leave a little white and I intend too but for some reason, often my final painting has too much “mush” as you call it. You have done tutorials on mixing colors especially the greens, but like another student commented on, mine never look like yours, and I use the same yellow with the different blues -all Holbein paints. That is a mystery to me. Overall, I hope you keep doing what you do. I don’t often comment with feedback so I will try to do better there.

Angela D’Antonio

I have been mostly just a watcher of your tutorials over the years due to a busy work schedule. I find just watching and listening as you demonstrate technique to be helpful, no matter the subject. I recently switched jobs and am working a 3 day schedule. More time to paint, yay!! So I expect you will be seeing more engagement from me. As far as subject matter I will say my favorites right now are the loose florals and landscapes, gorgeous fall colors, but I am also looking forward to winter holidays and more Christmas card inspiration!

Marie

I really like your tutorials! I may not remember to hit like. But you are my favorite artist to watch and learn from. I started painting this past March when I turned 70. I love watercolor painting. Your tutorials are very helpful. I do struggle with how much water to use. I practice painting every day. I love florals,l. Landscapes are a challenge for me. I keep practicing though. Thank you ❤️

Liz Jones

I'm working on my skills and I enjoy each tutorial I've done that you offer. I need to work on trees in general but I really love architectural line and wash. But, you offer a variety that I really appreciate and learn from even if I don't see the results right away.

Maryanne

You do an excellent job of addressing the wide range of your audience, even when the feedback you get is less than you might feel you need. You try to walk the line between making people grow by doing things they may not have tried otherwise, and offering something that will encourage your followers. You produce a tremendous amount of content that is both consistent and challenging. Thanks for reminding me I should click like or give feedback more.

Eileen

Hi ellen! I don’t know if I’ve liked or commented because I’m fixated on saving them for future but will make sure to do that from now on. I love all of your tutorials! All! I love seasons pieces as it keeps me looking forward to something new/ever changing. I don’t k ow if you provide videos on materials? Are there brushes you love or paints? I’m new and not savvy on brands.

Susan DeAngelis

I like your variety, but mostly I'm interested in landscapes. With or without a water component. Sometimes when I watch on TV there are always likes but never comments.

Melanie

Hi Ellen! I love watching you paint. I do paint along sometimes, but mu hands are deformed from RA so I’m always embarrassed to share my own stuff. So I naturally try the less complicated pics. I think sometimes we forget or don’t realize that likes/comments are actually meaningful. I’m gonna do better.

Marie Smith

I'm new to your patreon. I also new to watercolor so I'm learning so much. I enjoy all of the classes. But when you get a reference photo how do you pick the colors and where do you start.

Deb Jolicoeur

I really like your variety . I look forward to view them but I have to admit don't comment. I am very busy and mostly dream about painting. You inspire me and I keep trying to forge a space of time to paint. Please keep up what you are doing. And I sure hope your wrist is recovering ! I will certainly comment more.

Catherine Marion

I struggle with wet on wet - sometime color too loose so I know I need slightly thicker consistently but then how much water to add ? I know to lay down water on the paper and look for slight sheen, then apply pigment but then I lose control

R

I like your videos, but for me trying to learn, they go a little bit fast. I have watched some trying to figure out the stroke techniques, colors used, etc. I love the wheel barrow and pumpkins. I really love the greeting card videos. They are my favorite so far but I just joined your content last week.

Mary Kay

I feel you have wonderful tutorials and I love the variety you offer. I can’t explain the decrease in likes but I hope you keep doing what you have been because I love it!

Julie Golfsc

Mini’s are great. Postcards. More still life and how to paint our own photos. Love all you do for us!!

Bronwyn Clare

I love your tutorials very much Ellen. Problem with me is finding time to paint! I am on a road trip around Australia next year travelling for 8 - 12 months in our caravan (very adventurous) and I am hoping I can paint on my own as i will be seeing some beautiful scenery along the way! I need to be more confident painting on my own I guess, so this is something I am aiming for.

Myra Oakes

I need to be more loose, I really enjoy your loose don’t worry about it style. I have a problem with water control, I often mess with my shadows so much I end up with a mess. I like landscapes and flowers, I also am not a figure painter. Glad to hear the wrist is getting better.

Diane

I want to echo what most people have said. I love your tutorials! I like the variety of everything you post . I have learned to embrace the "smooshing"! Even if something is more advanced I will still try it and either try to simplify it for me (doesn't always work -LOL) or learn something from just doing it. I try to 'like' most everything but don't often comment. Thank you for everything. Most of all, I like to have fun. You are so right, this should be fun and you have taught me to lighten up!

Brenda

Ellen I think your content is very diverse. I watch often but forget to click and will try to remember to do so! As far as added content I struggle with even washes and color mixing :). Also I struggle with flowers. And people. Haha. Well I pretty much struggle with everything! I like all the content and variety. I may like to see more western content! That doesnt mean I can do it, but I love the national parks and the looks of desert scenes along with the other areas that we paint.

Carole S.

I have over 60 of your tutorials 'saved'. You are a great fit for what I want to do in watercolor. You are fun, encouraging and have such a diversity of subjects. Thank you.

Katrina

I’m still so new to watercolor that every tutorial helps me, regardless of the subject or technique. They all have great value for someone at my level.

Sheri Delvin

Hi Ellen. I use your subscription more than any - by far. I love your loose style, your light touch, your humor. I seldom, if ever, post because when I paint it's the one time in my day that I'm not engaged with others. I need the quiet and focus to rest my brain (busy household and I'm a caregiver). So thank you for all you give, you give alot! My struggles are composition, I feel I'm able to paint a flower, a vase, even a tree or ocean beach. But when I try to compose a landscape, or a room or a scene something goes wonky. Shadows don't always look right either. Keep doing what your doing and I'll try to leave a comment here and there to let you know what works for me. I paint cards for all my friends and family, so I always love when you have a card tutorial.

celia

I love your style of teaching. You have been amazingly generous with your free content. I have learned so much from you.

celia

I would like to see more advanced content. i enjoyed it even when i first started because it challenged me. Also I'd like to see more on painting backgrounds.

Julia Lowe

I have been away from painting a little on other projects. I am always looking for the more defined beginner and intermediate floral type cards to make for friends. Also seasonal cards including a variety of ideas on making the card. For example can I just fold my paper for a card and then somehow create a mailing envelope? Should I invest in premade blank cards? I don’t do well with taping or glueing. As always, really enjoy all of your tutorials. Thanks.

Amy N.

I agree that you do have tons of options here. One of my favorite tutorials that you did last year was the one where you explained how one of your favorite artists paints and you showed how you made one of his paintings your own. I found this educational and very interesting and would definitely be interested in more of this. I haven't studied art that masters produced and would enjoy more education about them. I am also looking for better tracings and more advanced layering of colors even if it means fewer tutorials. Drawing is a struggle. Portraits and pets are not my thing either although I do love the suggestions of people and animals in paintings. Quick sketch book tutorials are usually ones I skip unless it is more unique. I tend to gravitate towards landscapes with or without water. I would be interested in painting scenes from various National Parks. I am looking forward to some cute holiday cards. Your holiday lineup is usually one of the best!

Danica G.

Im new here but I love everything youve posted, my favourites are ink and wash tutorials but im not picky, I've just never thought of liking or commenting on the posts, its not something im in the habit of doing

Leeann Moore

I have been busy and haven’t liked items for a while. I hope to get back into painting this fall. I love your painting tutorials.

Amy N.

I use a paper cutter. 4 X 6 inch pieces of watercolor paper (cut larger sheets to get more than one card per sheet of watercolor paper) fit very nicely on a 5 X 7 inch card. To make this part of the card, I buy a pack of 65 pound cardstock (8.5 X 11 inches). I cut a sheet to 10 X 7 and then fold it in half. The 5 X 7 folded card fits into a standard 5.25 X 7.25 envelope. Glue or tape your card to the folded cardstock. Mail with one stamp! The bulk items can be bought at places such as Hobby Lobby or Michael's. I found this is an economical way to make cards. You might need a white pen to write your message if the cardstock is too dark.

Jan

Thank you for asking for feedback. I enjoy all of your tutorials, Ellen. I particularly appreciate your sense of humor and your personality. I have been remiss in not commenting but will do better going forward. BTW, Your Patreon is so well organized that I can easily find just what I’m looking for, so Thank You for that! I prefer painting mountains, lakes, oceans and palm trees, but I do try your other paintings, also. Your explanations about tea, coffee or cream consistency really helps. I also appreciate your color mixing instruction. I need more practice with placing figures in my paintings, you make it seem effortless but I struggle with them.

Patricia Maraia

Personally, I would like how an artist like yourself creates a composition in addition to learning out to paint crystal bowls with a black background and/or silver with perhaps fruit in it??

Vikki Gherzi

I love ink and wash, and have been watching fewer tutorials in order to develop better habits of my own. I enjoy when you have introduced and mix more vibrant or unusual colors like bright rose, peacock blue, lavender. Not a criticism of your style, which I love, but sometimes when you start a coastal or landscape piece with a wash of burnt umber or cobalt blue, I tend to tune out. It's the colors, not you! I happen to be spending a lot of time in Marblehead, so seasonal New England themes appeal.

Patricia Maraia

How to paint a BALL jar with its lettering.

Dawn Coelin

I love your teaching style and the subjects you choose! Life has been crazy and my painting has been taking a back seat. Hoping to get more time now that fall is here! Thank you for all you do!!!

Jean Olsen

Hi Ellen. I enjoy watching All of your tutorials and typically watch them the first time through while on the treadmill 🤪. Consequently I usually just like the tutorial and don’t comment. Will have to remember to comment when/if I go back and paint it. I don’t paint every picture mostly due to time. I tend to paint the shorter tutorials but not always. My struggles are water control, knowing when it is time to bleed into the first wet layer. I’ve also been trying to learn more about what colors are transparent vs opaque.

Lee ann

I also love all of your tutorials ! I have a stack of print outs that I want to paint following your tutorials. I can find something fun and easy or challenge myself with your tutorials . But I forget to comment or leave a thumbs up, but I will from now on! 😁

Laura Enright

I really love all your tutorials. My favorite subjects are anything floral, all greeting cards, beach/ocean scene, lake scene, birch trees, loose florals,. I don’t care so much about cityscapes or doodling. I am not very good at sketching. Are there any tutorials that help people to improve with sketching?

SHERYL M. Campbell-Bennett

Hello Ellen. I really enjoy your tutorials. Recently I just have not had the time for any personal painting time. For myself, my preference for a painting's outcome is for an accurate depiction of the subject or image. I do not care for loose and whimsical; it is just not my thing. So, when you post a class, I spend hours redrawing and painting to attempt to get every detail depicted. That is just me. Additionally, I am currently working on a squirrel tutorial that was posted a couple of years ago. The materials listing indicated to use cold press, so I drew the image on cold press paper. Then when I started viewing the video hot press was used. SO, I have started watching the video first to ensure the listed materials are accurate...But, I have learned so much from you. Enough to point this out, you have created a student with a discerning eye...😉

Poppi

I’m relatively new here and didn’t realize the importance of feedback. In the future I’ll give more feedback. The thing I struggle with the most is consistency and I don’t know if there is anything you can do about that. I feel that I get some really good paintings but only, maybe, one out of ten!! When I get a good one it can be really good. I try to stay in the zone that helped me to create it but the next day is a new day and it’s like starting all over again, rather than building on what I did the day before. If you have any advice for this, please say!!!!

Anna Leigh

Ellen, sorry I didn’t realize comments were as important as they are. Actually I love all you do and wish I could be half as good as you are. I enjoy flowers, landscapes and scenes with water and mountains are pretty cool. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Jen

Hi Ellen - I echo what everyone’s said here - like one of your other patrons I look at what you post every day (a little obsessed) - I may not paint it immediately but I know it’s there - I also love going back a few years to find older tutorials! My fav is still mini mondays. I gravitate to quick paintings and I’m now trying to figure out how I do cards for the holidays (they will have to be minis!!). Loose is definitely something I seem to be focused on. I struggle w the paper types and WHY one paper is so much better for one painting vs another. Salt never works for me! Eyes feel impossible. Why are leaves so hard to draw!? Sigh…. Anyway - love your postings and clearly you have a lot of others who feel the same way! ❤️

Nancy Bohler

Hi Ellen! Thank you for all your encouragement- you helped me get started on my watercolor journey! And thank you for helping us take the pressure off ourselves and just enjoy painting - the colors, the strokes, the amazing way watercolors have a mind of their own, the fun! I especially enjoy semi abstracts and looser paintings. I’m not a big fan of cityscapes (unless they are more abstract) or wheelbarrows, etc. but I do appreciate that others might love them. You give us a variety of subjects and styles to choose from and that’s great! I love your tutorials that offer us the opportunity to be more expressive and freer rather than realistic. I also loved your mini Monday tutorials. Thanks for being an amazing and caring teacher!

Karen Galloway

I really enjoy your tutorials. I especially appreciate it when you give us guidance on how we can do our own drawing. I prefer not to download a pre-drawn picture. However, I know many people appreciate those.

Mary Bauer

I would like a section in your collections called how to where your videos you have shown that demo different brushes and how to use , the video on making greens, how to make water look real etc. sometimes i forget the little tips and so if, just a suggestion. I enjoy landscapes and still life and ink and wash. I haven’t painted or commented much this past year because I’ve been a care giver for my husband. He’s doing much better so my goal is to paint more, use big brushes, and try to relax and enjoy.even though I wasn’t painting I’ve been watching and enjoying you, Ellen.

Rhonda Buynak

This time of year is busy for me and I honestly haven't gone on the site often. I so admire your work. I don't think you need to change anything! :)

Sandy Kowalczyk

I love your style, and teaching technique. I didn't realize liking a post or commenting mattered so I will keep that in mind going further. Watching your tutorials have taught me so much! I look back to where I started and I couldn't be happier. Thanks to you and your tutorials. Big fan!!!

Laura Jane

I love following you and for the varied examples. I do not always like everything lately due to the lack of time as we have had a severe illness in the family. I learn something every time. I enjoy the loose florals and I need to watch the recent examples of adding people. I struggle with lifting. Thanks for all you do.

Gwenyth Doggett

I do have an unrelated question to this topic, do you put new paint from the tube every time you start a project? Mine are dry in the tray and then I wet them but it’s hard to get thicker paint that way.

Joyce Smith

I'm a new member and line and wash is my favorite. It's my goal to improve my knowledge of color mixing.

Ellen, I don't want you to change your content. I love the variety and the various difficulty levels. I believe I have learned more from you than any of the other artist I have followed. I love the minis because I like to give them as little framed gifts. I also love your loose paintings, as I get caught up in detail sometimes. They help me relax and have fun. Thank you for all your content. I will strive to give you more feedback but I have been enjoying your channel since I began painting. Please don't change a thing!!

I love your tutorials! I always look forward to them and learn a lot watching. I simply forget to like!

Ellen I’m brand new (as of today) to your Patreon. I’ve some of your tutorials on you tube. I personally, like florals-loose and detailed. But you need to please everybody. I do a few landscapes. I’m always trying to learn. I’m not crazy about painting people or animals. But again, I do it in order to learn. I struggle with composition and picking color palettes. I’m looking forward to being a Patreon member of yours! I know I’ll enjoy painting with you!

I would like to paint a mallard on a pond or marsh setting.
