Exhausted from work, but going to recharge on my 4 day weekend

I dunno if this fits with tonight’s discussion… but I’ve been really fortunate to commune with ghosts for the last month. I’ve been relearning all the wonderful pieces of music I’ve learned in the past and really submerging in them. And when you play a piece that was written 100-300 years ago… it’s an amazing experience and so unique to music. You actually get to channel the composer. He flows right through you. And when you’re in ‘the zone’ you can really feel it. You can look at a hundred Van Goghs but you never get to repaint the irises in the way that you can replay a Beethoven sonata. That energy still lives and you get to be the vehicle for it to live again.

When I was in the Air Force Band we would play these magnificent wind transcriptions of great orchestral masterpieces. The transcriber said that he would channel the dead composer to reassign the lines and voices in accordance to what the composer would have done while living. They were extraordinary and authentic sounding transcriptions. Satisfying to both perform and hear. So I totally receive what you’re saying.
