ChocoBoshi

Ooooh I cant wait to watch this!

Kossain

Great timing! I was just looking to watch something with my dinner.

Solas

I never seen this movie before so it’s pretty cool to watch it for the first time with you two

charlie

I have been trying to be better about liking the stuff I watch but I often forget lol

Sanji Joestar

At 21:38 Carson screaming Robin while she's slowly sliding her head in cracked me up😭

Sonicluis

I’ve honestly never seen this. All the movies and special I’ve watch start after episode 0 and strong world.

54:36 Sanji refusing to feed someone We're officially in Bizarro One Piece

Daemedeor

You got like inflation happening!

Jeremy

Not my favorite op movie

Sanji Joestar

One thing that strikes you quite directly is how silent the movie feels We talk about a festival but there's many shots that are eerily.. empty? But in a sort of purposeful way The atmosphere built up even in moments that feel lighthearted is very unsettling And quickly enough the crew starts crumbling down and Luffy's all alone Omatsuri, Moria and Luffy at the end of Marineford resonate strongly with what this arc depicts when it comes to grief, loss and ways to cope.

charlie

the shot of that red moon always gives me eclipse vibes for some reason

Sanji Joestar

This is basically One piece if the whimsy of the characters was toned down a tiny bit and the, idk, 'realism'(?) of how they interact raised a bit more. That second slap from Nami felt different, her dynamic with Usopp falling apart, Sanji refusing to feed someone, everybody blaming Luffy and him being unresponsive. It feels like they really wanted to tell a story where the crew we know is acting off enough that it makes the whole movie unnerving. (Lowkey theory might be that the flower could be emitting spores that affect people's mood but ig i prefer the idea they just wanted to mess with the audience, and it worked lol)

Sanji Joestar

Technically that final is the first time Luffy killed someone/a vilain on screen lol The last shot of the glasses and the flower.. Not hard to empathize with Omatsuri

Sanji Joestar

Fun Fact(unless i'm misremembering) The ''Back to the manga'' punch also known as Hisashi Punch was started by this movie. Baron Omatsuri was released in March 2005. Back then the Manga was in Water7/Aqua Laguna-Cp9, while in the anime we were just done with Foxy.

Ahh the good old Kaizoku Fansubs era, that takes me back. This movie sure is a doozy, it's either super beloved or kinda disliked for the same one reason: the usual OP vibes are off. From minute one we're filled with a constant and gradual sense of dread that permeates the entire runtime of the movie. It's definitely One Piece but it's also somewhat off putting, which is the make or break factor for this film. It certainly has a lot of the elements that make up One Piece's identity, but once the twists start to hit this movie unapologetically leans HARD into it's grim aesthetic and horror imagery. For all the canon story's many explorations into some equally dark if not darker themes, Oda clearly prefers to maintain a generally light and fun vibe to his world/characters. But this movie doesn't shy away from it's own brand of disturbing terror, and for this reason it stands out proudly as being the one and only One Piece movie of it's kind. Kind of a tangent....but I once heard that Oda admitted he didn't like this movie. It's probably just one of many easily disproven rumors on the internet. But I can't say I'd be shocked if it were true considering it's tonally such a departure from how Oda usually writes One Piece. Again I strongly doubt Oda would ever publicly criticize the hard work of such talented people who worked on his IP, but I CAN kinda imagine Oda being low key upset at how uncharacteristically dark and moody this movie portrayed his story. Anyway lots of fans love it for that exact reason so, Oda and Toei still win out in the end I guess.

Shoutouts to Blackbeard's VA who voiced Omatsuri in this, love that guy. Love that he got to do an arguably empathetic antagonist here instead of the chaotic maniac he usually voices in One Piece lol.

Sanji Joestar

Talking about shared voice actors Yesterday i found out Child Robin and Daisy shared the same voice actress

pedro I.S

do you guys mainly only watch anime? im not talking about reactions its just that ive never seem you talk about any movies or shows etc

Artemis

Bro, the "Girl who leapt through time"? How can you not remember that one. Basically, the film that earned him prominence as a director.

100Rainy

Yeah! Her too, she's got a great unique voice. Apparently the VA was actually a child when she played those roles, that's some kinda talent!

Artemis

One of the things I have always appreciated about Mamoru Hosoda as a director, is he truly understands how to tell a story using cinematography and visuals over dialogue. Some of your best films I think communicate its narative to the audience in this way, with a strong visual language and that is true about Baron Omatsuri as well as many of his other works.

Oussama Essamadi

They have a pinned post on here with all the non-Anime reactions.

Oussama Essamadi

Watching this movie is always such a trip. A perfect punch of so many of my favorite arcs, plus the sudden Undertale turn lmao.

3 Mr.

strong World

King

Eh, honestly, I doubt he'd be that upset over it if at all even if he disliked the vibes (though I've never heard of him saying anything negative about the movie). I'm mainly saying that because of the way he answers some SBS questions

Alma

Having just finished marineford this movie hits so hard. Given how Luffy acted when his crew got separated at Sabaody, how in the flashback episodes, Luffy stated that "being alone is more painful than being hurt," and how the only thing that could ground him after losing Ace was the fact that he still had his nakama, I do believe that if he actually were to lose everyone, he wouldn't be able to go on. This movie holds a very special place in my heart. It is to me everything that makes one piece one piece. It's fun, uplifting and adventure, and its dark, heart wrenching and depressing. A rollercoaster of emotions. That on top of it having the most gorgeous animation and character designs. I love it. It's probably not the BEST one piece movie, but it is my favorite.

Mochh at 80

28:40 now you know one of the best OP sound bites. Zoro’s AH?? always gets me lol

Iris Mit

background cat wash time around 1 hour and 4 minutes (always love catching glimpses of them in the background)

fia

if i ever get into animation this is exactly what i want my stuff to look like

Iris Mit

yeah this movie is the odd one out tone wise as far as all one piece related media goes, part of why it holds a special place in my heart (also cause i tend to gravitate towards horror as a genre in general)

Ariix

1:38:54 You're right Carson, "Hanabi" is actually written with the kanji for flower ("hana", 花) and for fire (usually pronounced "hi" but changes to "bi" here, 火). "Firework" in Japanese literally just means "fire flower".

David P

Did you guys said G8 is your favorite arc!? More than saboady? Impel down and even marineford? 🤨

nofie

Man that was a doozyyyy.

Cameron B

This is my first experience with this movie. Pretty fascinating experience. Kind of felt like a standalone film with a one piece skin at times, but that honestly just adds to the unsettling tone.

SD Reunion

SANJI! Yo it's like we have the same taste in reactors XD

SD Reunion

Thank you guys for reacting to this film! It's so hard to find reactions to some of Mamoru Hosoda's older stuff. It's funny how you mentioned The Boy and the Beast cause it was the first time I saw one of his films in theater and I just remembered leaving afterwards like... but why whales? LOL

Sanji Joestar

😂Lol that seems to be the case

Xalmor

Maaaan I've been thinking Mamoru Hisoda was a woman this entire time for some reason.

Iris

One Piece The Horror Movie. I watched this movie when I was 14-15 and was traumatized 💀 I still remember the image of Luffy impaled by a million arrows and desperately walking towards the baron. Luffy went through all that and none of the crew will ever know. It’s wild but so very in character for One Piece. Love your reactions! Thanks for this treat!
