Kossain

Hope Lindsay feels better!

Bighead

Hey when are you guys planning to watch orb? Any schedule yet? Also get well soon to Lindsay

Sanji Joestar

That comment about the Straw hats acting like villains is also why I really like the ending of Skypiea. They technically didn't have to take the gold, they would have gotten even more actually if they didn't run away and knew the people were gonna reward them. But their pirate greed led to a funny misunderstanding.

Redlock

I like how in one scene we are showed the difference between Arlong and Hordy by how they treat their subordinates. Arlong was not very flesh out but compare to the others vilain he was the first to respect his crew and call them brother and was genuinely piss has zoro for cutting them he would never use one has a human shield

Envyus

I will go back to it later, but there is an anime original scene here that messes with some later stuff.

ImZeaT

Just to restate again that what you call a "remake", is not a remake. It is more akin to a remaster, even with Toei themselves calling it a "Special-Edited Version". There are shots/sequences with more effects, but the core animation stays the same almost everywhere (including this fight) as they haven't redone the anime, it's the same storyboards, etc., just with a worse rushed pacing.

100Rainy

I just got done being sick myself, hope you feel better soon! Also Hody's such a petty bitch lmao, he really didn't need to grab that dude as a meat shield. He had more than enough time to just dodge to the side.

hussam abdelalim

Just FYI, The kidnapping bit with hordy and arlong is not canon, that is important to note

slowchem

not to be so negative but lower your expectation on remake's animation carson, the top animator guys at Toei probably were on a different team and were all working on the latest arc while a different team were doing FMI remake at the same time... FMI remake was just mostly a pacing fix

Artemis

Haki definitely was not something that was planned from the very beginning, however I think the earliest sort of conceptual idea of haki was during the Jaya arc when Blackbeard first mentioned it and then in the skypia story, when the shandians first used a form of extrasensory telepathy called "Mantra". I believe at that point is when oda decided to create a whole power system from it. Ironically, thats also during the time when the manga became more popular and the story was going to proceed his initial 5-year plan. The very early hint of haki with shanks using it on the sea king was an improvisation by oda to make it relevent.

Iris Mit

yeah very few scenes were redrawn, a lot of it is just the OG animation with a filter on top with some of the padding cut out

Iris Mit

hope Lindsay doesn’t get too sick and feels better soon totally understandable if not but i was wondering if you two already watched this past ep of Apothecary

Artemis

The talk about why certain crews exhibits the characteristics of pirates is another fascinating discussion. The characters in this story are driven by a desire for freedom, adventure, and the pursuit of a dream. While their actions might involve conflict and even violence, they are not typically portrayed as inherently bad people. Instead, they are often shown as having their own individuality and unique motivations and values, sometimes aligning with traditional pirate ideals of freedom and camaraderie. This is why oda never creates romance amongst pirate crews as it just kind of goes against the moral code of a pirate. Even within their own crews, no one is depicted as this person that exists to play 2nd fiddle for the captain's dream. You look at a crew like blackbeard, each and every one of those individuals have their own motivations, some might even go against the ideals of BB and defect from the crew if they don't align. It’s very interesting because at its core this is how pirates really are, and I love that oda breaks away from that whole "let’s hold hands and be together as one" trope and instead the series highlights the importance of individual agency.

Beranzan

Others have said it too but just reinforcing that the Hordy/Arlong flashback is anime only and opposed to the story even being contradicted by something said later in the arc. I'm not someone against filler scenes but this scene does change the story that was written which I am against.

slowchem

@Matthew Gilroy what? you wanna argue that Toei themselves acknowledge it by choosing FMI as the first arc that needs to be remastered?

SwaggyMan

Love the Brock reference early on lol

David P

The kidnapping scene is not canon. This is important to note for later in the story ..

klairvoyage

Yeah the anime's 6-month-hiatus was mainly: - for the manga to get ahead (so the anime can have better pacing), and - to give the "top animators" the needed time to continue upholding the crazy animation that the current arc has. The "remake"/re-edit was just a side-project to give fans a nice lil bonus during the "break"!

klairvoyage

tbf there is chance that with the newly announced remake Toei decided to perhaps fix all the post-TS arc, while WIT catches up with the remake + Matthew might have also meant that the re-edit, despite being much shorter, somehow ended up having worse pacing than the og

klairvoyage

imo Haki was already fully established in Oda's head by Drum Island The whole speech of Hiruluk, after Chopper asks him what pirates are like, is him just listing all 3 types of Haki (with his Conqueror's haki description being the dead giveaway)

slowchem

@klairvoyage Toei is definitely worried about WIT especially with the long term replayability of their version of One Piece, having too many episodes is the main hurdle for new audience I think there's a possibility that it will get remastered again with more redrawn animation - maybe that's the reason why they chose to use the inferior "previous arc" art style or filter

Ty

I do not think Toei needs to worry much considering it will take forever for Wit to even catch up to the time skip. Also Toei gets first dibs on animating the current manga so when one piece ends Toei will see a huge boost. I also think at this point there is no way Toei reanimates any arc. Maybe new reanimated movie recaps but to redo a whole arc would be too much work for little gain.

BOLDcast

Hopefully we will be able to start putting out orb at least 2 a week starting next week. But this week will likely be catching up on the last of us apothecary and one piece

Bighead

Ahh good to know! Also can't wait for TLOU. BTW are you guys still planning to continue the Lazarus and To be hero X reactions? I'm still on the fence about both the series but i find it entertaining cause I know I'll have your discussions to look forward to.

BOLDcast

For sure going to stick with To Be Hero X but we will see about Lazarus

Gino

My headcannon is that he had an idea about it and then he expanded upon it

ChocoBoshi

Thank you for the clarification but please don't mention what is or is not Important. Simply saying "this scene is/isn't canon" is enough. I know you aren't the only person who did it but I don't have time to individually address each comment unfortunately

Artemis

@Gino, yeah that seems to be the case, it was an expansion of an idea that came to him and it could be that he already thought of it even very early on but we didn't really see it establish in the story til the jaya/skypia saga.

Abdulaziz Altmimi

I wish her a quick recovery, stay strong Lindsay !!

Oussama Essamadi

So messed up of Luffy to see the doughnut shaped cloud.

Oussama Essamadi

Hope you're feeling better soon, Lindsay. Zoro taking the command even temporarily is mood.
