JoyBoy

I don’t believe the episode itself was uploaded alongside the post.

charlie

please Carson I fiend for the episode!

ChocoBoshi

Haters will say its fake but Oda actually foreshadowed this uploading goof up in thriller bark. Zoro was just too exhausted and he couldn't get out the full quote, "Nothing happened... in the episode 602 reaction on Boldcast's Patreon" ✋😔🤚

ivan reyes

Not related to One piece but since I just finished watching the reactions to Squid Game. Will there be reaching to season 2 and 3 later down the line

ivan reyes

And with this episode it explains how Blackbeard was able to get whitebeard devil fruit since the crew DR always carries apples

JoyBoy

That’s still primarily just a theory isn’t it?

Sanji Joestar

FINALLY! I've been itching for this episode and its discussion

Sanji Joestar

Not necessarily I think it's better to let them come to their own conclusion

Jeremy

Great theory Lindsay

charlie

Love the discussions as always

ChocoBoshi

To add on to your discussion about Haki not being a wide spread concept in the world of One Piece. In one of the past podcasts you guys talked about how there are different names given to the same thing, "Grand Line vs. Center Sea", "Observation Haki vs. Mantra" etc. This, to me, indicates in a less explicit way something that Oda has said about the World Government through things like the void century and the buster call of Ohara. They very tightly control information and its ability to spread throughout the world. They even went so far as to censor the footage of the war with Whitebeard in order to paint themselves in a better light. I think this as well as the fact that early on, before entering the grand line, most people didn't even know if Devil fruits were real or not, they were often talked about as if they were akin to myths. Similarly, Haki is something that even Luffy, who is a very fast learner when it comes to combat, took 2 straight years of training and nothing else to be able to use proficiently and even then, as he said against Hordy, it isn't perfect. So it makes sense that people outside of this insane environment would never have a need to utilize it. None of this was in disagreement with anything you said, I was just adding it on to bring it all back to the front of your minds. Haki definitely wasn't a concept that Oda had when he first started the series but I think the way he worked it into the story actually makes a lot of sense given the way he built the world.

ChocoBoshi

Sanji Joestar can correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I am aware the reason Blackbeard did what he did at Marineford is strongly hinted at being related to what you saw happen with Smiley but it isn't outright confirmed with the information you have available at this point.

JoyBoy

I remember at first thinking the same thing about devil fruit’s reincarnation being obvious, but then remembered that outside the Grandline devil fruits are commonly seen as myths

Sanji Joestar

The way the world of One Piece works both geographically and from a story perspective is like a giant filter (Not to mention Information itself is filtered/controlled. The WG regularly manipulates news and history for example.) The 4 blues are the most remote locations in that world and they all collide in the Grand Line, then New World Back in East blue Devil fruits, were myths to most people. Then those courageous or powerful enough(often because of a Devil fruit) are funnelled into the Grand line where they use their strength to progress. At the beginning of the Grand Line, people like Vivi only heard of giants but were never sure they existed, so to them that was their myths. We also have Sky islands in Jaya. And by the time we reach the midway point it's almost common knowledge because all those people met to get that far. And most who get there are very proficient with atleast a crew, talent, strength or their fruit or have the strength to fight back So we reach a new threshold where another thing like Haki, that counters devil fruits, makes the difference among the big names.

StrawHatX

holy Sh*t, Lindsay is so smart, she is cooking this arc. I had to listen to multiple discussions to get the DF thing.

Sanji Joestar

I can share my thoughts on the topic but in the Discord might be a better choice.

Sanji Joestar

For the discussions about the logistics of the fruit appearing, it's really hard to answer these questions without either giving away something else that could come later or having theories in the mix. My advice is to just keep that in mind when reading some comments and also take into account your own interpretation first.

Oshidi

I’d assume it’s the most unripe/unappetizing ones, since many have said devil fruits taste terrible😂

Envyus

My guess for the Fruits is that certain Devil Fruits also have to reincarnate in certain fruits, so the Axolotl fruit has to reincarnate in an Apple, and they generally go into a relatively nearby fruit of the valid type. Ceaser putting out the apple bag to try and make sure the fruit comes back in one of them. I imagine because Ceaser wants this to be reusable he will once the experiment is done compress the gas again and use the Devil Fruit to make it Smiley again.

Daemedeor

I don’t want to change the cooking too much but something to keep in mind that you already know is that there is a devil fruit encyclopedia

Sanji Joestar

There being a bag full of apples might imply a random factor. So having a lot might increase the chances. Maybe the 'devil' prefers a ripe fruit😂. By the point you guys are, it's been explained that the encyclopedia of devil fruits can contain illustrations showing the shape of a fruit next to its description, to help identify it, meaning each fruit has characteristics that stay consistent. That could include the type of fruit(apple, banana, melon etc), its color when transformed and the general shape of it. Blackbeard for example said he memorized all the shape of the fruits present in the book and that's why he chose this devil fruit because he automatically knew which one it was.

Ultra Ball

Do we even know if Blackbeard “ATE” the earthquake fruit?

Oussama Essamadi

The Devil Fruit that spawn in this episode fed theorists for months back in the day. Blackbeard basically spawn camped WB's Devil Fruit in Marineford. The fact that we're still calling it WB's Devil Fruit even though BB has it now tells you how much undeserving BB is of it.

Sanji Joestar

The reaction to the devil fruit spawning was definitely worth the wait lmao Now imagine how confused most people are because the anime just doesn't disclose at all that Smiley is a devil fruit user.

Jack Shadow

The AOT author took the inspiration from the ability of the Titan shapeshifter power reborn from One Piece. Also, yeah, Lynday cooking again!

Matthew Gilroy

In Jaya, Luffy and Zoro corrected Nami, referring to Blackbeard as "them", not "him".

Ty

Idk why this gets spread around. The "them" you are talking about is blackbeards crew not blackbeard himself

edgard

One piece and aot are both about seeking freedom

Monkey D.offy Lucci

I interpreted that Ceaser did not know the Axolotl fruit will be ‘reborn’ nearby those apples, but I’ll explain later in the arc.

Mo za

Of course it's an apple the classic.

Matthew Gilroy

Where is this confirmed? Sounds like a speculation. And my speculation that others share makes more sense given the fact that his crew wasn't in that scene and were only revealed to be his crew after the Strawhats had left

Veritas

Both interpretations are speculation

Matthew Gilroy

And history, discrimination/prejudice

Veritas

As others have said, I and many speculate the respawn requires the closest *particular* fruit (Buggy=pineapple, Kaku=banana) because the illustrated Fruit encyclopedias were mentioned and they should be consistent to matter. As such because of all the ocean out there, there can be instances where the nearest correct fruit might literally be across the world so I doubt that range is any issue. Add to that the difficulty of killing a power-user and these things are more than rare, they're randomly found.

Daemedeor

> fed theorists for months back in the day As if theorists aren’t still being fed lol.

Ty

How they react after. The fact that luffy and zoro never clarify to nami. The fact that luffy never calls Blackbeard they/them again. It points to all the freaks we met earlier being his crew.

Matthew Gilroy

600 episides in and Luffy and Zoro still don't know there was any correlation between those dudes and Blackbeard. Your argument makes no sense, and you're giving future spoilers too with the naming😂

Ty

When I say ever again I mean at this point in the story. I’m not so flagrant with spoilers as some people :). He sees Blackbeard 2 times after that scene and both times he doesn’t call him they.

tavuntu

OMG dude stop, it was heavily implied that when Zoro and Luffy said "it's them, probably", it was because they saw captain material in him... that is by far the most logical conclusion especially because they show BB crew shortly after that. Or are you saying they somehow had some weird observation Haki to see what they saw? That and other questions arise from that weird theory, when it can be easily explain with the crew thing... As others said, why didn't they keep calling BB "them" afterwards then? it's been just "omae", "ano otoko", etc, nothing that indicates plural like "kimitachi" or similar. Stop, it's just fan fiction.

tavuntu

yeah, both things are speculation but one of them is WAY more simple and explains way better why they said "them"... in contrast with some weird forced theory.

Sanji Joestar

Veritas is right. No matter how likely one interpretation is over another, at this point in the story, they're still interpretations and one shouldn't be described as if it's already factual. Trying to clarify speculation with speculation becomes a misleading can of worms.

Matthew Gilroy

"It's just fan fiction"??🤔 Marco literally said Blackbeard's body structure is unique at Marineford😂 Sanji Joestar I agree with you. Both theories have validity. Although the latter makes no sense to me considering Luffy and Zoro still don't know those dudes were Blackbeard's crew after 600 episodes so why would "them" be referring to those guys?😂

Matthew Gilroy

Tavantu stop talking shit. It's not a "weird forced theory". It's a very popular theory, and has grounds via context clues. "Context clues" is a form of literary engagement that a child can develop as they grow.

Leighton

I know it was from a distance but they did see Blackbeard and his crew together when they were about to take the knock up stream to Sky Island

Matthew Gilroy

Which was after the scene we're talking about. Therefore the "them" referring to the crew still doesn't make sense

Fabulous

I think you guys cracked the code with devil fruit. That is why when kaku was eating his fruit, it looked like a banana. All the other DF have shapes similar to actual fruits

Fabulous

Is this confirmed?

Fabulous

I didn’t even know it until this rewatch that Smiley is a df user

millecamps

i don't think so, it left those on purpose there the same moment he sabotaged the sled, i think he planned to go get it back afterward since he was the only one who could get it thanks to his devil fruits. what make me think that is that he say "see you again" so he planned to bring him back and knew the devil fruit would respawn, and he put the apple in the sled so that it would be the closest apple there and would respawn there and not in a random apple on the island unless the translation of what he say is wrong, then he may or may not know

millecamps

loved the reaction to the devil fruit moment, i knew you would lose your mind and was waiting for it XD

Monkey D.offy Lucci

Have you consider those apples are for Vegapunk’s Green Dragon to pull the sled?

Sanji Joestar

Cesar says ''See you again'' He seems aware there's a way to bring back Smiley

Artemis

uhh... ok then.. i just said r.ip to brownbeard but ok redemption? Why am I not surprised that he survived lol, this is one piece.

Artemis

We have heard about the transferrence of Devil Fruits from objects and previous users after death for many years in OP as it was established far back in the story. But to actually see it in action in this episode was quite the reveal. I am not sure if its "re-incarnation" or just "reborn" but we don't physically see the fruit fly through the air or something to possess its next host, its more likely that it just manifests to the closest fruit in proximity. So many questions come to mind about this supernatural process, but its interesting to say the least and just another facet of the mysterious wonders of the world.

Nukouh

and then blackbeard and his crew is out hunting devil fruit users too

Nukouh

lindsay is so damn smart, shawty be cooking fr

hussam abdelalim

From the fact that the sack was full of apples, my theory was the same as yours, but with one added detail that it has to be a specific fruit based on the power or something,g rather than any fruit nearby so I was thinking for this fruit it has to be the nearist apple to the dead user, wich I think it would be easy for him to experiment with with all the prisoners
