another little thing you can see in the flashback with marina's parents when she has the birthday cake, marina's dad gets a phone call while trying to take the picture. thats such a nice small detail to show subtly where it started.

I wouldn't say that you were one of the only ones that reacted that way to Marina's death (because that would be pretty bleak), it's more so that some very prominent reactors were cheering when Marina got killed. So it might have looked like that but from what I've seen, a lot more reacted with shock or "sadness/anxiety". Even in the comments of those prominent reactors, the overwhelming majority of people were really disappointed by their reactions, how it was childish and almost evil by what they were saying, and that they didn't learn anything from past shows they enjoyed... I'll stop my yapping there, but just to say that the majority of people felt like you.

I do think the specific scene aside, it’s one of the reasons why I don’t generally watch reactions other than one piece. I’m not usually curious on how people react or if they’d react the same way to the same scene. It is cathartic for sure sometimes to see others react similarly but it’s also kinda boring too done enough times and also if every episode is peak, it kinda devalues it too. One piece does have extra stuff that you can guess, to make it feel like a different perspective that you may have watched. But .. I dunno

I just want to say - I'm asian and grew up in an asian country. While yes most people generally do see hitting kids as a form of punishment as "the norm", the degree of violence and what the punishment is for certainly matters even for the average asian household. Most asians (at least I hope) would consider all of this to be abuse. I had what's generally considered to be lenient parents as a child. In my household, the harshest punishment usually ended with a slap on the hand. The only time my sister got slapped in the face was because she was caught stealing popsicles at school (just for context, she was in primary school and no we weren't poor in the slightest). My mum was very against slapping in the face as she found it to be an act of humiliation, she later apologized to my sister for doing that to her after she grew up and didn't steal anymore.

I think what Lindsey wanted to say was manslaughter, not an accident lmao. Takopi didn't mean to kill her.

I’m not sure how much Takopi abuse I can take, but it’s really intriguing to see Takopi dip back and forth between naive and obliviously innocent to like surprisingly introspective and considerate of his own actions. Also I’m right there with you on the frustration with these parent’s actions. I know I’m late but such a good discussion. Really appreciate both of your perspectives. Never even heard of this show but it’s really good so far. I started watching these after catching up on your One Piece reactions cus I needed something to watch lol. But man, went and looked at some comments from youtube and other reactions’ comment sections and some of the opinions are wild, so it’s really refreshing to hear you guys discuss such difficult topics with some healthy empathy and understanding.

w discussion as always. i knew i could trust you with your discussions on these kinds of topics and just the way you approach them. i have avoided reactions to this like the plague for the many reasons voiced by other comments. it's such a hard show to watch moreso than read. i relate so much on these kids and that's making it sound like i had it super rough but idk i never come out of an episode unscathed i'm from an asian household and we're still falling into this very traditionalist ideology of discipline via pain. it's even seen sometimes that you're not a great parent if you don't discipline your child this way. so it's really a cycle. the scene with marina's mom though, would be considered abuse here (thankfully bc hell if not)
