Sanji Joestar

Double or very long conversation!! Edit: Where's 624 lol?

SynteX

where is 624?

Monkey D.offy Lucci

If there’s gonna be a podcast discussion for the arc, clickbait the video title as ‘The Best One Piece Arc Ever.’

Extra Crispy

I think/hope this was meant to be 624 lol.

Fabulous

Oh boi I think they messed up.

Javier Enrique

one episode is missing in the gran line

Monkey D.offy Lucci

Honestly, I would be in the minority to recommend this but would you watch Episode 629 before your podcast discussion

Extra Crispy

I hope they just mixed it up and didn’t lose it actually I was looking forward to 624

100Rainy

So tempted to watch this now but I wanna wait for 624

unlucker

Extra Crispy

So early it traveled through time lol.

Isaac Sato

Did you guys notice that Chopper still has Sogeking's autograph on the wall in his office? Lol

Sonicluis

We need film z so you can see the canon materials oda introduce

unlucker

I'm all for watching filler too, as long as you're enjoying it

L.Joy

I appreciate the sunglasses pose 😆😎

Sanji Joestar

5:56 That Is Camel And he's my favorite random background character in One piece I'd kill for him so treat him well❤️❤️❤️ Q: Tell me the name of the penguin Mr. Kuzan was riding! Is he related to the Galapagos penguin?! Was he treading water under the surface the entire time he was waiting for Mr. Kuzan?! He's so cute, I can't help but want to know more! Tell me!! PN-Kunugi Oda: Yep, that's a big penguin. He's a member of the "super penguin" species, which is very adept at treading water. He fits well with Kuzan's "Hie Hie"/Ice Ice Style, and has been accompanying him since he left the Marines. His name is Camel. Also, he's a hardboiled dude, so don't call him cute or you'll get burned.

cyberc33

Regarding the fight, jimbei mentions in fish man island that akainu showed mercy

Alma

I don't mind if you guys watch this filler at all! It's probably been 10 years since i saw it myself, but i remember it having some funny moments, and it's very short. It's also not really disrupting anything major since it's in between arcs and not, like, in the middle of a fight. I say go for it!!!

100Rainy

I can only speak for myself here but I'm so down for more filler reactions. And I'm especially down for more movie reactions. As a fan who's seen each of the OP films, I really think you'd enjoy nearly all of them and not just the most modern and popular ones. One Piece more than any other anime really emphasizes the joys of the journey, so in a way it almost feels natural to consume all the side media for it. It's just more wacky fun adventures with the Strawhats we know and love.

Sanji Joestar

There was no mention of where Kaido was from Also difference here The man made mythical zoan Momonosuke ate was made by Vegapunk. Not Cesar.

Oussama Essamadi

Dugong bugger arc let's gooo. Punk Hazard is such a great arc, lots of "fans" like to trash on it, I don't even know why it's normalized to hate on it, sometimes on par with the Fishman Island hate even. *Aokiji shows up* Doflamingo: "I'm not interested in dying", he is as smart as Law hypes him up to be.

ImZeaT

I don't know who told you that One Piece goes downhill from here on out, when Punk Hazard is literally the last arc some people have real problems with (so not like pacing issues) (also I don't really have a problem personally, but a good chunk of people do). Every other arc from here has been peak after peak after peak. So either those people were lying to you, or they just don't watch One Piece...

ImZeaT

The "not watching because Luffy isn't there" might have been true for early One Piece, but since a long time ago that hasn't been the case. Almost everyone agrees that when you enter post-arc territory and see what is going on around the world, those are some of the best episodes in each arc. So maybe it was true around episode 67 (Koby cover story) but it definitely hasn't been for a long time. I wouldn't say that most episodes without Naruto are what defines an arc (for the most part) whereas we can almost always say that about One Piece... (not just those episodes but I assume you understood what I meant)

Sanji Joestar

I WANT YOU TO WATCH THE FILLER ngl😭😭😭

Monkey D.offy Lucci

BTW, Momo coming out the bath with Robin is canon. So is Momo motorboating Nami. What a kusogaki.

Sanji Joestar

37:40 With One Piece there's only one thing to keep in mind, just judge for yourself The crowd is always loud and very often wrong😂😭

JoyBoy

I can’t wait for the side content like the cover stories and movies hopefully

Jeremy

That lashes comment on lmao. Cool with y’all watching the filler by the way.

Sanji Joestar

The filler topic is definitely nuanced and comes with a lots of ups and downs. But yeah I really like what they do with it for One Piece. I just know the general audience doesn't vibe much with it, which can hurt the subscriptions, even tho i'd really like for you to watch them. When it comes to the Cover stories as filler it'd be genuinely so cool and a literal win win situation for everyone. Sadly I think it becomes hard to adapt because the cover stories are like pictures of sequential events rather than a continuous storyline with almost no dialogue, so the anime would have to come up with entire scripts that fit the characters without contradicting the story further down the line. With Buggy and Kobymeppo, they did a pretty good job. And honestly it's their job to make it work but yeah I guess back then the audience weren't much interested so they stopped. However recently when the cover story content becomes relevant they basically put it as a slideshow and have a narrator describing the gist of it.

Sanji Joestar

About Luffy attracting audience he's definitely a driving force but there's still moments when he's not even involved and people are tuned in anyway. I think that was more of a thing back in the early days of One piece since the scope wasn't clear yet so the main interest was just the crew.

Sanji Joestar

Takopi Original's Sin and Hikaru are both shows i wanna watch I'm just lazy lol

Monkey D.offy Lucci

I think you two would be so down to watch the Edo Boss Luffy episodes (291-292, 303 & 406-407). Different setting and time period, same classic OP humor.

SomeoneElse

Dressrosa has pacing issues in the 3rd quarter but other than that, story-wise it progressively gets better and better from here

Daemedeor

Seasonal anime isn’t that bad but it wasn’t the standard at first. Partially because it does drop attention over time as it takes a long time (years) to adapt the next part. But also, manga that was good enough to adapt and win contracts was much further apart. So, there wasn’t as much work coming in during those down times. And one piece held onto enough high viewership that keeping in its prime time slot made sense just the filler material. We also see the media people try to cover the gap in material (like in GoT), we just see lots of high profile failures. I do think there is a happier medium and one piece by its very nature does better with side filler because it can be very constrained and isolated and we care about the jokes and characters more than the main plot (getting the one piece) but some people just hate 0 movement towards a goal and unfortunately it starts reflecting in the stories because people want peak over peak vs just trying to let a story breathe

Iris Mit

I feel like nowadays a lot of people aren’t watching filler (in the sense of purely anime original content) cause of how it doesn’t contribute to the canon world/lore building (kinda like a lot of fans are telling reactors not to watch it so they don’t get confused between canon info and anime filler additions) But we also don’t get G5 type filler anymore in current OP huh (not much filler that isn’t a recap or a special/gearing up for a movie)

Sanji Joestar

It's so much fun lol And all their faves at the time are in it

Emm Eff

i support your filler needs!

Mister Kap

It was ep 611 where Momonosuke ate a devil fruit created by Vegapunk, the fodder characters said Vegapunk remarked it was a failure.

Merfhew

Filler is always fine with me. Considering how many One Piece reactions you drop each month, if someone truly feels the need to cancel their Patreon subscription because 3 or 4 of your reactions are to filler, I'd have to question their common sense. I know that sounds kinda mean, but it's not like you'd be avoiding the canon episodes for an extended period of time (although, even if you did, I'd be fine with that). At this point in the story, there are very few 100% filler episodes remaining.

Immortal Art

Doflamingo to me is easily best villain in one piece , powerful , evil , and care about his gang the way he retrieve baby 5 and buffalo make him cooler even and in top of that has the best laugh

Fabulous

Naruto fillers were literally in the middle of the canon arcs and big fights so people would just skip the filler to watch the fight. In one piece, the fillers are in between canon arcs so you don’t feel like you are missing out on a fight

Fabulous

I really wished one piece anime adapted some of the cover stories. Not only the cover stories are cannon, they usually become important as they get incorporated into the main show.

Adam Vialpando

Sometimes One Piece filler is smack dab in the middle of fights. But usually it's only an episode or two.

Adam Vialpando

I appreciate that in the past few years they stopped considering recaps as actual episodes and just make them their own thing that people know to skip.

Adam Vialpando

Was just about to type this. They said the SMILEs wer zoan type but they never mentioned they were mythical. The only manmade fruit explicitly labeled as mythical was Momonosuke's and that was made by Vegapunk, who we can all infer was much smarter than Caesar.

DaniP

Yh I think the one piece bad pacing, by the books directing lasts for a couple more arcs till the 2021+ arcs which have some bad paced episodes, also have some 5* directing and art in some episodes too. Honestly I think the seasonal anime in 2020+ made toei wake up

Zoodinger

I said this before but IMO every arc after Fishman Island is peak. In fact the next arc, which many people seem to hate, became my favorite first time I watched it. Only the small arc after it I don't like much but that's a personal opinion, it still has great stuff. The pacing is not bad for entire arcs, they have slower acts or groups of episodes which must have been torturous for people waiting for them weekly. Which is why personally I just stop watching and wait for months or years for episodes to pile up. But worth noting that watching arcs the first time and rewatching them can have a different effect. I liked every arc on my first watch except for Foxy, but I find that *rewatching* Alabasta/Some parts of Enies Lobby (especially the train part)/Fishman Island/Small post-dressrossa arc to be kind of a slog. (ironically I appreciated Foxy a lot more after rewatching) That said, One Piece anime canon is good and I never skip it. It's short enough to not overstay its welcome. But I really don't care for pure filler though I won't mind watching it with you guys <3 I assume most of the naysayers are people who had to watch everything week by week. Also anyone who suggests to skip entire canon arcs, especially to first watchers, is just flat out wrong.

Cheddah Slammer

Eh, not entirely True, In Japan the viewership of filler goes down even for One Piece, which is why we have canon mixed with filler, so that viewers just watch the filler looking for that one canon moment. Their are still certain cover stories that weren't animated because Luffy isn't in them.

Capitano

The scene at the end isn't filler, it's in the manga.

Porco

I would much rather do cover stories than filler

Robbie Medica

Those are usually more recaps than fillers and they're more to do with the network scheduling in Japan.

Arkham

I think it’s a mixed bag tbh. I’ve been through the series multiple times and I think, as you indicate, many of the pacing problems exist even pre-TS. People just forget or choose not to acknowledge the series’ problems were always there, they just get more noticeable when you’re caught up and in very long arcs.

ImZeaT

??? What does filler have to do with anything I said? (+ cover stories aren't filler)

Szonin

This is the best time to get into some side content. Mostly looking forward to watch you react to the 2 big movies that you can watch now. And really looking forward for you to finally read some cover stories and see how impactful they can be for the overall story.

Sceeze 1

Very funny/interesting watching you guys have the filler no filler conversation based on old information, was like a little jump back in time, very cool!

fia

could aokiji be sogeking?

Terskstar

You could react to cover stories.

Artemis

One of the most striking aspects of this arc, is the clear shift in the power dynamic within the Straw Hat Pirates. Unlike earlier arcs, the group no longer relies solely on the main character to confront the most formidable adversary. The story demonstrates that each crew member has honed their abilities; if, for instance, Zoro had faced Caesar instead of Luffy, victory would have been well within reach. Similarly, if Nami or Usopp had taken on a major opponent, their unique skills could have steered the outcome in a decisive way. This kind of evolution highlights how, after two years of intense training, all members possess the competence necessary to tackle significant challenges. It is obvious that the events of Punk Hazard serve as a prologue, showcasing the crew’s preparedness for even more daunting foes in the New World. But I love how the narrative now emphasizes teamwork and individual growth, marking a departure from the days when only one member was capable of overcoming critical threats, especially concerning the main character. I hope as OP continues to progress we see more of this type of dynamic.
