To the "I'm not stuck in here with you, you're stuck in here with me" point, every time Luffy squares up with someone I'm reminded of what he said when he fought Doflamingo, "It's you who got in *my* way". Since the east blue saga its sort of felt like the Strawhats are these underdogs punching above their weight class, and to an extent that's absolutely true in a lot of cases. But I just love it when Luffy has these moments that reframe desperate situations like this, essentially reaffirming that he isn't the one going around causing trouble for these bigger powers in the world, those people are the ones getting in the way of his journey.

Luffy breaking the mirror is one of my favourite moments in the story. The lead-up to it and the hype of that moment really build up the Luffy vs Katakuri fight perfectly.

No shot, pre time skip luffy would have not been mature enough to make the correct decision. He would have instead let his emotions cloud his judgement. Through all the loss and pain he has suffered, it has changed his character and that is finally starting to be presented.

I think Naruto and goku are better Protagonist than luffy, Naruto has more development and luffy Most of the Time is still the Same , And you See goku literally grow from a kid to an adult who has Kids .

I personally like Luffy over Naruto but that’s probably because the writing around Luffy is so much better. I do not think goku is on the same level as Luffy simply because he isn’t as interesting for a lot of the story of dbz and most of super. He is iconic though so it’s hard but I think if most people honestly went back through dbz they would not find goku that interesting past a certain point.

Luffy stepping up as a captain is peak And what makes this even better is if you contrast his reaction to Bonclay's sacrifice in Impel Down He was the only one who stayed behind and Luffy was absolutely against the idea of leaving him behind. If it wasn't for Jinbe not telling them Mr2's plan they wouldn't accept it. And now here Luffy's fully understanding the gravity of Pedro's actions and immediately took the lead on what to do. We can't waste this. Jinbe is silently witnessing it, but you can tell he noticed how much Luffy has grown from what he teached him in Impel Down. Luffy and Naruto are just fundamentally different characters Just the age at which we start their stories says a lot Naruto being like 12 while Luffy's 17 And with Shanks, Ace and Sabo he's already gone through some big growth and development. There's a reason why we don't know his full story until halfway through the manga, the Luffy we meet is his own persona formed by his circumstances. That's what makes him a static character. But static doesn't make it less interesting. Instead of the world affecting and changing him, he's the one doing the opposite and that's his impact on any of our main and secondary characters. And even then his growth is very much present within the story we witness, it's just not instant. Today's episode for example show a complete contrast in his reaction between Bon Clay's sacrifice anf Pedro's. In Drum he learned to be more humble for the sake of others, and immediately applied that when Hancock askef him to make a choice, him or Margaret & Co. And there's also all the stuff regarding the summit war and how he dealt with it going forward. For the story One Piece is he's an excellent protagonist and (personally) overall I'm genuinely amazed at how one can write a character like him. Because it's really not as simple as one would think. There's a through line Oda follows with him and it's jusy beautiful.

Without the explosion Sunny, Brook and Chopper would be done for. Perospero showed early his ability is weak to heat/fire. I also like that we don't get the time to mourn him. '' YOU GUYS HAVE TO KEEP ON GOING '' !

Ty, expand on your point on why you think Goku is not interesting in DBZ. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. There's a reason why Goku is so popular. He resonates with people, even if people can't even explain why he resonates with them. But I can explain it: It's because Goku reflects many themes about Life. Toriyama wrote him expertly in Z, focusing on the question "what are the most important things in life as one grows older?" Goku in Z shows us that the answer is the legacy you leave behind, and the ideals you pass on to your loved ones. Goku in Z also brings up themes like the influence a parental figure has on their children. Also that time together is the most important thing in a parent-child relationship (sad given Goku's lack of time with his children)
