This sumo scene from this episode is actually one of the meme GIFs that One Piece haters love to use whenever they make fun of the show's pacing. I can't really blame them though, lol. This is definitely one of the worst-paced parts of the Wano arc.

This episode and especially the Yokozuna and Luffy almost falling for 2 minutes is probably THE most egregious case of pacing in a long while. There's probably some contenders here and there but not as memorable. So it's actually good news that we passed that threshold.😂

Meh, it did feel long watching it at one point, but once I've seen it a dozen times, it feels kind of short now for some reason . There's worse examples of direction choices in my opinion, but not very many for sure.

This sumo match is to me the standout example that first comes to mind when talking about bad pacing and padding in one piece. Looking at it now it's just kinda funny, but when i was watching as this released on a weekly schedule i was banging my head against the wall. It was one of the reasons i stopped keeping up with the anime alongside the manga for a while. But we are now, as far as i can recall, past the worst of it! In my books, nothing from here on out is worse than this!

The pacing in this episode is so bad that it almost turns into an intentional gag. Where it just seems like both contestants are just doing some weird dance on camera. In the manga this entire scene is like 2 pages

I still remember that viral clip someone made where they used only manga panels to cut up this episode. What happened in like 14 minutes only lasts like 2 minutes if the anime was faithful to the manga pace

The pacing in this episode is so bad that it's amusing to watch reactors get through it. I'll skip reactions for most poorly paced episodes... But this one... You aren't a real One Piece fan if you skip this one 🤣

It's not just the pacing, it's the outrageous animation reuse all throughout the episode. They always reused frames but I don't think it's ever been this bad. If we remove this the episode itself is pretty fun though. I think we haven't seen Luffy treating a fight like a joke since the colosseum.

The sumo thing is just absolutely ridiculous to the point of it being funny. It feels like that was the point of it as well. Is it too long? YES. But is it funny? Also yes imo.

well, the manga chapter was just as bad now imagine that dragged out in the anime. The pacing is the same, it's just that the episode is bad.

This episode is like one chapter, but this arc will blow your mine with the animation. This arc has some of the best animation of any anime ever it's amazing. I don't understand why they just don't use the cover stories to fix the pacing? It used to be like 3 to 4 chapters to per episode and they started to catch up to the manga, so they slowed down. Just you use the cover stories!, but I guess capitalism.

This is basically the nail in the coffin for how low the standards can get for pacing/padding. NOTHING in the future even comes remotely close to this. It is painfully obvious Nagamine and his A staff were busy preparing for the upcoming episode batch, well some of these early wano episodes probably got outsourced to the filler team. But we should be back on track now so things should improve from here. Also the sumo is a post example of oda just having a little to much fun with wano the japanese arc. His editors may think he likes to stretch things out because he wants to fully embrace and indulge in the Japanese cultural and thats not necessarily a bad thing. What was only about half of a manga chapter turned out to be 20 min in TOIE's episode production so it really is that egregious padding/pacing issues that cemented this as the infamous sumo episode that everyone has turned into a meme.
