I watched this on Crunchyroll with spanish subtitles. And from what in seeing English subtitles are missing some parts.

So, just to add some biology here; "locusts" and "grasshoppers" are a bit confusing as translations. The japanese use the words Inago (イナゴ, translated here as locusts) and Batta (バッタ, translated here as grasshoppers). Batta is the word for the general umbrella term for grasshoppers and locusts, and most of them aren't really considered as good-tasting. Some species of them can, under the right circumstances, transform into a state where they swarm together, causing massive outbreaks. Their behavior and even body change when they get into this state. Inago is the word for a specific kind of grasshopper that is very much edible, and they don't live in swarms. Apparently when boiled or fried they taste similar to shrimp as they have actual meat to them, which is why the Batta were described as tasting "empty". So, the fact that there are seemingly more and more Batta caught by farmers is probably both a sign that they are reproducing fast, AND that the farmers might be struggling, so they're trying to sell whatever they can (this is my interpretation, I have no idea what will happen in the story, so maybe this would actually get explained later on too lol)
