That white blood censorship was SOOOO dumb lmao Like why ? At least in the battle with Oden they used Petals to represent the blood, which looked cool Good thing it's a one time thing cuz what😂

Sanji Joestar

Just curious if you've seen the scene that got skipped at the beginning of 987. It sort of answers a question you guys had here. Nothing critical. Just not sure if you guys went back of if it's gonna be included in a next video.

Nicolas LeBlanc

As a lover of dark jokes this is great! Aren't you glad your relationship isn't like Ulti and Page One.

Sanji Joestar

We get examples of broken pirates that surrendered their dreams to Kaido. We've been told Kaido intends to break the wills of the pirates he defeats and make them submit to constitute his crew. That was his intended goal with Luffy and Kid being sent to Udon's Prison. So now we have a crew of people who basically gave up and delegated their ambition to someone else.

Terskstar

The beginning of 987 answers one question you asked here

L J

Kaido jumping off sky island because of Yamato had me crying 😭😭😭😭😭

Sakarael

Yeah, that Kaido thing is one of the biggest plotholes in the story really and shows that Oda just wanted a cool introduction and that's about it, if he really wanted to die why not just jump into the ocean and drown, you got a freaking Devil Fruit man, also jokes on the Marines for trying to execute him like 20 times and never getting it done. Like how did nobody think of "how bout we just drown this mf?"

Artemis

Manga Comparison: ~Yamato and luffy are fighting~ Yamato: Wait!! I'm Serious I mean you no Harm!! Luffy: I told you I'm in a hurry!! Luffy: Where are you trying to take me? I don't have time to waste with you, whoever you are!!! Luff: Huff Huff Yamato: Just Hear me out! Luffy: I'll Give you five seconds!! Yamato: There are people watching here, I want to go somewhere else!! Luffy: Then NO!! Yamato: You are so stubborn. This is only reminding me of a battle from my past. CUT THATS IT!! Yes this section was severely stretched out in the anime and yamato did not repeat any of his phrases. This episode and the next are both adapted from a single manga chapter so TOIE's pacing strikes again.

Drakojin

Sometimes (often) they ways of toei are inexplicable 😅

Cheddah Slammer

I don't remember the Usopp Chopper with the Tank fighting Big Mom in the manga.

Miguel Nobre

Spoiler Do you remember Kaido fruit name?? And we learn in this arc that he was not trying to Kill himself when he jumped,he was going for Kid,Killer and Hawkins

100Rainy

Looks like Zoro used his secret fourth sword 👀💦

It SO isn't a plot hole I can't believe we're still having this conversation. That introduction is key. He literally says it right in your face. The narrator even says it. '' His hobby is suicide ''. Do you know what a hobby is? Something you do to pass the time. He's not jumping 10000meters to die. He's simply doing it to pass time. In that exact same scene he loudly proclaims he wants a war that engulfs the whole world. If all he wanted was just to die he would have done it already. I don't understand how people watch a scene clearly telling them something and they simply just ignore it. Your next question shouldn't be why he doesn't just drown himself, but what he sees in a war like that.

Oussama Essamadi

The infamous nut wounds. Progressive Kaido era is here. Shame on you Carson LMAO.

Sakarael

My brother in Christ, I love you, but please don't come at me with this 😭 It IS a plothole, and sometimes it's okay to call Oda out on his bs. I'm literally reading the official manga translation right now: "None of these people were able to kill him! And that included he himself!! His hobby is 'suicide.'" So it is LITERALLY stated that he tried to kill himself and failed. And since when does "hobby" just mean passing time? I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years, and I call it my hobby because I ENJOY it, not because I'm bored. So sure, maybe Kaido enjoys TRYING to kill himself rather than actually dying. But here's the problem with that argument: Even if he just enjoys testing his limits, HE ALREADY KNOWS HIS LIMIT. He's a Devil Fruit user. It's WATER. What's the point of testing how much his body can survive when he already knows there's a way to kill him? And how did the Marines try executing him 40 times without anyone thinking of just drowning him?? And on top of that, the narrator literally says he was "searching for a place to die." So which is it? Does he actually want to die or does he just enjoy testing his limits? Because the latter makes no sense when he already knows his biggest weakness. And that's exactly my point. You can explain it away by saying he was lying about wanting to die, but then we're just making excuses for what the narrator explicitly tells us. His introduction was written for hype, and it WORKED. It's epic. But the moment you actually think about it, the logic falls apart. That's literally all I'm saying.

SPOILERS Kaido's clearly frustrated and tired of his long, unfulfilling life he's stuck in but he still seeks a glorious death to be sure. As it's revealed later he views death as the definitive and final statement to any great man's life. He admires how Roger and WB went out and desperately wants something like that for himself. So yeah Kaido could be direct about it and just leap into the sea or even eat another DF, if the reports about eating more than one are even true. But then history would surely remember him as just a sad fool and not even close to being a legend. And the thing is that's the most important part to him. Dying in a blaze of glory matters A LOT to Kaido. He was introduced to us as suicidal and that's still very much true, jumping off that sky island certainly proves it. No one who isn't looking to end their life would try that. But knowing what we know, Kaido was likely already well aware that even something as drastic as that wouldn't do a thing to him. In a way he was simply tempting his own cruel fate with that stunt. He attempts over and over because he already knows the answer, it only affirms the one thing he's desired all this time; a strong opponent to come and bring him an impactful death. One that shakes the whole world and cements his name in history forever. A desire he probably didn't even know he wanted back when Oden was still around. Which is why in his current days he's always miserably drunk and depressed that he's so freakishly strong plus virtually un-killable at this point by anyone who actually wants to try slaying him.

Sanji Joestar

@100Rainy ♥️Brilliantly well said!

Sakarael

Well said brother, it still doesn't explain why the Navy failed 40 times to execute him. That is the plothole. And exactly why his introduction is meant for hype purposes and not to be read too seriously.

Sanji Joestar

@sakarael Spoilers for Boldcast . . . . . I'm afraid you have a FUNDAMENTAL misunderstanding of Kaido as a character. Which is why there's a block on the single idea that he just wants to die and you're not asking yourself why that is. And HOW he intends to die. '' Whitebeard did it right. '' What is RIGHT? '' So did Roger '' What did they do RIGHT? Oden even said to him '' I don't care if I'm forgotten..." These aren't random lines thrown for 'hype' or 'aura'. That's completely trivializing what these characters are about. Roger died and yet his name is engraved in history, no one could ever forget the impact he's had on the world at his time and in the future. The last flame of his life was used to lit a spark in every one around the world. Something the government can't control. An inherited will. Rocks on the flipside of that was Kaido's captain, someone who stood above him and and yet in the History of the world, he's not even a memory, erased as explained by Sengoku. '' The One piece is real '' Whitebeard left a mark that shifted the world in the following years. Kaido saw through them how to do it the 'right way', engrave his legacy in History and be remembered. That's also why he's so misguided because his version of a legacy is completely manufactured. He also loves the thrill of a battle, to be challenged or perhaps taken down by someone. Oden was that opportunity and it was robbed from him, he never got to explore that path and all he had left was a bitter victory. So he sulks it by drinking. Orochi keeps stealing victories from him too but he's useful so he sulks and drinks, waiting. There's a pattern of old gen pirates being stagnant to a fault while the new gen make the world move. Law literally said it during his speech against Vergo. '' I broke the gear. '' That stagnance is why he has this weird hobby to try himself. If that failed he might as well continue on his goal of a greater war. One that would either cement his vision of a world of violence or be his glorious downfall he envisions as it also marks History. He knows jumping from that height will most likely not kill him. That's why it's a hobby. And we know he went there to get Kid and his alliance. Jumping was just one way of getting there. But he's not actually trying to ''just die". His wished death also comes with a goal. Not just '' Oh i should just drown then '' that's completely reductive of any characterization. I genuinely think this idea that ''why doesn't he just drown'' is why he's so misunderstood. There's also his interest in a certain figure. Someone whose coming is a sign of a world bound to change and he wants to be a part of that. Which is why it's rightfully tragic that his defeat happens in a country isolated from the world, in a raid no one ever even knew was happening. He doesn't deserve that legacy, even if he still contributed to his return. And, this is moreso addressed to the devil fruit claim, not you specifically), I don't think the name of his fruit is why he doesn't 'drown himself', the logic of df users implies he wouldn't be able to use his ability underwater eitherway. And again the fish thing is a nomenclature thing (because of the myth behind the azure dragon)so he doesn't have a fish fruit, just like how Page One isn't a Dragon. So that shouldn't factor in.

100Rainy

MORE SPOILERS It's fine if you still view it as a plot hole, but with how I explained things it's reasonable to believe that Kaido would actually bother to try and escape if they ever planned to execute him via drowning, imo. He's been more than ready to die for quite some time now, but he won't go like that. (Plus there's also the slight possibility of his unique DF granting him a passive ability to survive underwater so it wouldn't kill him anyway, but that's still only speculation). As suicidal as Kaido's become over time, he's always kept some small bit of hope that one day he'll get his wish at last. We saw it in his final flashback to his and King's private conversation, even he believed a certain someone would appear one day to finally defeat him for good. And so until that time he'd keep testing the limits of his own mortality, but for the sake of his deepest desire he'll always refuse the easy/unceremonious ways out.

Sakarael

Brother, please, this was a nice read, and I do understand Kaido fully well. I still think he's a lazily written character, but that's a whole another story, we can go into once Wano is finished. You didn't even touch on my MAIN POINT in your entire comment. This isn't about Kaido's characterization, it's about how his supposed invincibility was established in the first place. The entire hype around his introduction is built on the narrator telling us how he's searching for a place to die, how the Navy tried to execute him 40 times, how the spears shattered, the blades broke, and how NOTHING could kill him, not even himself. That's a massive claim, because it establishes just how STRONG this guy is supposed to be even before we get to the "Strongest Creature"-claim people have about him. The difference is the "Strongest Creature"-claim is put into persepctive through the "people say", the parts before are not. That's the narrator directly constructing Kaido's image for the viewer, and that's exactly my problem with it. Oda TOLD us how supposedly invincible Kaido is instead of SHOWING us. And the few things he DID tell us don't even make sense when you think about them. Because HOW could the Navy not execute him? He's a DEVIL FRUIT USER. Why did they keep trying to pierce his skin when they already knew it wouldn't work? How did NOBODY think of drowning him? THAT is the plothole I'm talking about. Not whether Kaido wanted a glorious death, not whether he was depressed, not his philosophy or motivations. None of that explains why the Navy supposedly couldn't kill him. And that's what I mean when I say fans should be able to call out Oda on his bs. You can't just have the narrator make a bunch of insane claims to hype up a character and then never explain how any of it actually makes sense in the world you've established. The introduction was epic, like I said, but being epic doesn't automatically make it good writing. And giving me an entire analysis of Kaido's personality doesn't answer the actual criticism I'm making. Because for my criticism you don't even have to know anything else past his introduction to call it out. It makes no sense no matter how you twist and turn it. It is merely there for hype.

Sanji Joestar

SPOILERS FOR BOLDCAST . . . . . Showing not Telling is not a rule that indicates how well executed something is. And narratives in One Piece are important. I believe again you've built up a narrative that didn't work for you and when the story still told you how it happened you just ignored it? Let's go through the Narrator's claims. '' He claimed he was searching for a place to die '' This ties into his greater goal. '' He has tasted defeat as a pirate on seven occasions. And been caught by the navy or enemy ships no less than 18 times. '' We know for a fact he was caught in the majority of these on purpose, so that he could use the prison ships as food supply. That's when he was simply going wild. That's the whole joke and the discrepancy between the narrative and what's actually happened, as always in One piece. That doesn't make it a plot hole. ' [description of various failed executions], Ultimately, he sank nine different prison vessels, meaning none of these people were able to kill him. Not even himself.' This again is referring to his pattern of chasing those prison vessels on purpose simply to eat. But more importantly he wasn't faced with anyone strong enough to actually kill him. What you seem to forget/miss is that all of this is BEFORE he actually had a devil fruit or joined the Rocks Pirates. You're also misinforming them with the assumption he already had a devil fruit back when he used to get captured. As for the times he was caught for execution, assuming these were all done by the Navy, the period he was getting repeatedly captured in was before he had a devil fruit, you're lumping his entire life into one version of a character instead of a lifetime. They were simply trying different methods to see what would get him. If the rope snapped, they could look for a stronger one, a better spear, a better guillotine, shooting him etc. And over the years that number 40 across the world doesn't sound that unlikely. But that's just my interpretation. Especially if he didn't allow himself to be killed by drowning and again escaped. We also know he's been captured to be experimented on. Because at some point someone that unbreakable is actually worth exploiting. That's how his df was replicated. They saw abnormally strong people and did tests on them trying to get results from them. We know this. And he escaped. ''This is a man who challenged the Navy and Four emperors etc " We don't know when the 4 emperors became a thing but it seems rather recent in the bigger story with Shanks becoming one recently. So again there's a big difference between the younger Kaido who used to get captured on purpose on vessels he targeted to get food and the current one who established an empire and at some point challenged the four emperors and Navy. The narrator is simply doing a global summary. That's why we get info from a younger days Kaido alongside information on his current character. That's because he didn't start suicidal, it's something that came along much later. His goal as a young pirate wasn't this glorious death, he didn't even define that cause for himself yet until much later. And just because the Narrator tells you something doesn't mean the story is doing a poor job at Showing. We're SHOWN the veracity of these words by the time Luffy fights Kaido the first time. Oda even made it an excruciatingly well established point that Kaido is like an invulnerable wall. He went G4th and pummelled him senseless and yet nothing. If that's not Showing idk what is. It's even reinforced through Oden being the only one able to injure him. Again That's the Showing you want to see. You're claiming the story made claims but then didn't show proof of any of it and I'm just confused. And if you expected to get all that from a single introduction back in Dressrosa I'm not sure you're reading the right story.

Sakarael

SPOILERS . . . . . . . I feel like you're once again completely missing my main point and instead explaining things that I never even questioned in the first place. First of all, you're projecting A LOT of stuff onto the story that was never actually established, just to explain away the plothole. You're saying maybe they tried stronger ropes, better spears, different executions, maybe Kaido escaped before they could drown him. But that's literally just YOUR interpretation, not something the story actually tells us. And you're completely ignoring how strong the Navy actually is. Look at Kizaru at Egghead or PRIME GARP and tell me they wouldn't have absolutely ragdolled a younger Kaido. Are we seriously supposed to believe that the Navy tried executing this man 40 TIMES and nobody thought of a way to actually kill him? And the Devil Fruit argument doesn't even matter. WITHOUT a Devil Fruit he could've been drowned like any other human, and WITH one that weakness becomes even more obvious. So HOW did they fail 40 times if they genuinely wanted him dead? THAT is my point. Also, you're claiming all of this happened before he got his Devil Fruit, but where exactly is that established? You're once again filling in gaps yourself to make the story make sense. And yes, show don't tell isn't some absolute rule, I agree. But there's a difference between using narration to establish a character and having the narrator make a bunch of insane claims that fall apart the moment you actually think about them. Oda built Kaido's entire hype around his supposed invincibility, and I'm questioning the LOGIC behind that, not whether Kaido has some deeper philosophical reason for wanting to die. And since you brought up how Kaido supposedly SHOWED us how strong he was, please don't get me started 😭 Kaido and Mihawk fans are genuinely some of the most annoying people to argue with because their goats share the exact same problem: they're complete narrator merchants. So much hype built on what we're TOLD about them rather than what they actually accomplish. Sure, Kaido oneshot beginning-of-Wano Luffy. What an incredible feat. Then he spends the entire raid getting clowned on by pretty much everyone WITHOUT KILLING A SINGLE ONE OF THEM, only to get rekt by a newly awakened Luffy who then couldn't even do shit against Kizaru at Egghead. And let's not forget that ODEN, who I'd put BELOW people like Rayleigh or Gaban and who hadn't even fought properly in YEARS, was about to absolutely destroy Kaido if that old hag hadn't transformed into Momo and distracted him. Without that interference, Kaido would've gotten folded right there. So please don't act like this man has some untouchable track record that justifies all the narrator hype around him. I hate powerscaling, but please don't come at me with "Kaido SHOWED how strong he was" as if that somehow proves everything the narrator claimed about him. And his backstory is ass too, I'm sorry. It's literally "I was smol and strong, then I was medium and strong, and now I'm big and strong." Where is the substance? Big Mom completely mogs him in pretty much every metric when it comes to actual character writing, but that's a whole different discussion. The point is, I think Kaido is a lazily written character whose hype relies WAY too much on narration, and the things that narration establishes don't even make sense half the time. You can explain his motivations and philosophy all day long, but none of that answers WHY the Navy couldn't execute him or WHY nobody thought of drowning him. And if your explanation relies on inventing things that MAYBE happened offscreen, then you're not actually disproving my criticism. And lastly, I don't know why you're getting so condescending about this. I've been nothing but respectful to you, and now you're coming at me with stuff like "I'm not sure you're reading the right story" just because I criticize Oda's writing? Brother, I love One Piece too, but that doesn't mean I have to defend every questionable writing decision Oda makes. Sometimes it's okay to call him out without acting like the other person just doesn't understand the story. Anyway, I'm not gonna write anything more under this thread because it's getting ridiculously long at this point. If you genuinely think the points I'm making are THAT egregious, we can gladly continue this discussion in private or something. That way we also don't have to spoiler-warn every single comment and can actually discuss things freely.

cautiouspigeon

I really cant stand toei :'( the pacing is horrible and great arcs like wano suffer bc of it when they reach onigashima the manga maintains a great pace and every chapter is thrilling but in the anime its just one big bloat with a few great eps anyway love the reaction!!

Jeremy

Pacing was bad but felt like yall let it get to yall to much this episode lol

Ariix

Not gonna lie, I read through all of this and I kinda agree that the introduction doesn't make 100% sense. I still love Kaido for the character he is, but I think it's fine to admit that some lines in his first scene don't make complete sense. But I definitely wouldn't call him "lazily written", more so that in crafting a character that's supposed to be the pinnacle of strength, this legendary, unbeatable force, Oda prioritized those aspects over complete logic (or his plan for Kaido just changed as he went along). It's fair criticism to call out those inconsistencies in his introduction, but I wouldn't even call them plot holes, since they don't have any major bearing on the plot going forward (I think his characterization is very consistent other than those couple lines) and can even be explained if you interpret Kaido's wish for death not literally.

Sanji Joestar

Spoilers for Boldcast . . . . . . . . . - The narrator tells us they tried many different execution methods and they failed, the problem with your reading of this description is you're thinking they all sat him down at once and tried every single execution known to man at once. Despite us being told he was captured at different times, meaning they tried different executions at different times and again that's assuming all of them were specifically done by the Navy only and not by different pirate groups who caught him which is not specified. - This is also another problem with trying to lump 40 years of a character’s history into one thing. You're talking about Admirals and the Navy's top rank when we're discussing a situation from at least +20-40 years ago. Kizaru or others weren't even there, the Navy's biggest hitters were people like Garp or Sengoku as far as we know. But you don't seriously expect them to be right behind a single pirate every time he's captured. What about Big Mom, or Shiki or who else. We're told why Kaido got captured so often and from those captured came the execution attempts. The problem with your logic is you're assuming every single time he got captured Garp(or someone as powerful) was just there. Because you equate the Navy being everywhere to Garp being everywhere and thus assume anytime Kaido was captured Garp(or someone as powerful) was nearby. That's the problem here. You're trying to hyperfocus on a situation that was never that narrowed down and then claim the story doesn't make sense because that narrow window you're looking through doesn't fit. Him not having a df also meant he wouldn't be weakened even if cuffed so he'd still have his strength and wouldn't let himself be killed by drowning, and wouldn't be phased by other methods. Plus we could address what counts as a humane way of executing someone in the One piece world but that's besides the point. I have to get specific with these examples because you're zeroing in on situations that weren't detailed then and are NOW clarified as him doing something on purpose and them having no way of actually restraining him until he got his fruit. Except by then he wasn't doing this old schtick anymore. In that backstory we're shown when he used to get captured repeatedly. You'd have to prove he was still doing it after the Rocks Pirates which at that point wouldn't make sense, he'd have men under him or can just fly wherever he wants. - We quite literally know this happened before he got his devil fruit. We were literally shown the period he'd get repeatedly captured was before he joined the Rocks Pirates. He made it a habit. ‘’We captured Kaido!” “ He escaped again? “ “ He gets caught when he's hungry, apparently. “ “ This is a prison ship, not a cafeteria. “ I have to reiterate this point because it's important. 1 He isn't suicidal here so he wouldn't let them kill him and would try to attempt escaping, as planned. 2 He got caught on purpose meaning he obviously wouldn't do it near ships with people so much stronger than him if it's only for food. And he was still discovering his world. 3 Him getting caught doesn't guarantee a high ranking marine to show up in the instant. THE WORLD IS LARGE. Literallt look at Luffy's journey, the only time any Admiral showed up it's because they were warned in advance. - What is so insane of a claim about Kaido getting caught on purpose to eat, people failing to kill him and him escaping once he's done because they can't actually restrain him? - ‘’ Narrator merchant ‘’ what does that even mean, you're definitely making this a powerscaling discourse even tho you ‘hate it’, while misconstruing all of it. If you don't see how Kaido's performance established how strong he is, Fighting whole night multiple people, Luffy 3 different times , each stronger than the last without rest idk what else to tell you. You're literally looking at the feats you claim he lacks and decide to disregarded them COMPLETELY. - And I don't even know how Kizaru got into the scale. It's extremely obvious that neither him nor Luffy were fighting to defeat the other, but to instead help others escape, accomplish their primary goal or buy time. Luffy's superiority was established throughout. Kizaru mostly escaped him to burn his endurance but couldn't actually deal with Luffy. - ‘’I was smol and strong, then I was medium and strong, and now I'm big and strong.” ‘’ Big Mom mogs him ‘’ You're literally doing a twitter meme right now. I can't believe this is an actual argument. Kaido is not here to compete with Big Mom about who gets the most complex, in depth backstory. Because they're fundamentally different characters, approached in completely different ways. That's not how you approach actual character writing or analysis. ‘’ where is the substance ‘’ The substance is quite literally in the text, and on screen. Each of his interaction with Luffy, Oden, Roger, Yamato, Momo, Big Mom, his story, King, his crew, Orochi etc these are all part of his substance. But because you're so focused on this Twitter version of a checklist for a character’s quality you just decide to ignore all of it. You completely disregarded our earlier explanation so I'm not even gonna bother again. - The only reason you'd think Kaido's solely reliant on narration (which he quite literally isn't) is if you actively decide to ignore his actual on screen presence and substance throughout the arc. Some were simply waiting for his backstory to tell them what to think and when that didn't come because they missed what had already been established they think all he actually has going for him is what a narrator said once sometimes. You can't seriously believe that. - That wasn't intended as condescending so my apologies. I just don't think you're reading it right because of all the examples I cited of stuff we've been told or shown but you somehow just proceed to ignore. I'm saying his introduction in Dressrosa is just that, an introduction. And the narrative around it is something worth exploring and we did. Nah, I'll pass.

Sanji Joestar

@Ariix Yes I agree with your general idea. Just to be clear, It would be inconsistencies if we knew the exact circumstances but we don't. That's the main nuance. So I'm not saying they aren't inconsistent. My point is claiming that something we don't know about is inconsistent/plot hole is also a bad claim. '' Why didn't they drown him? '' Maybe they tried and that's when he escaped while he didn't get phased at other executions because he knew it wouldn't kill him. We just don't know.

Sakarael

SPOILERS @Ariix If a plot hole has any bearings on a plot going forward or not does not matter. It's still a plot hole. "No, a plot hole does not need to have a major bearing on the overall story to still be considered a plot hole." This is what I got as an answer when simply googling. So yes. I agree that it isn't a major plot hole, but in the context of One Piece it's still a big one because other than that there really aren't any. That was what my first comment was all about. Then it devolved into a Kaido character analysis, which is fine and also mostly preference. However, I do think Oda's idea of Kaido definitely changed over the course of the story, with him almost giving up his "suicide" plotline in favor of the Joyboy stuff, that kinda came outta nowhere imo.

Kiki Varas

Yamato is my fav. He’s such a good character, Watching this reminds me of how much I love the Character.

idziman

Because it wasn't lol

David P

The joke was peak Carson 😂😂😂 don’t let the world extinguish your light 😭😆🤣

Artemis

Its not just wano. Historically this has been an issue since impel down. It just feels more pronounced in wano because its such a larger story. However this is also in part due to oda's tendency to stretch things out him self as well.

Artemis

SPOILERS BOLDCAST ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Its not a plot hole until you can definitively say its never been resolved? Oda's story telling has historically never changed. He has established and dropped bread crumbs of specific plot threads that we didn't see a resolution to hundreds of episodes later. There is alot in wano that is 'setup' and not necessarily concluded.

C

Sakarel my man, you are extremely wrong and unwilling to see past your immediate assumptions. It really is a matter of reading comprehension on your side. So much of what you are saying is just a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept of motivation in general nevermind Kaido specifically as a character

C

i mean, its their reaction if thats how they feel

Sakarael

Buddy, I'm about to finish my Masters in literature and history. My "reading comprehension" consists of substantially more than reading a manga primarily meant for teenagers. And I am very well allowed to dislike characters or writing decisions I fully understand. Because, spoiler alert, just because I do not like something, doesn't mean I misunderstand it. And just cause you like something, that doesn't mean you necessarily understand it. I have understanding, a personality and personal preferences that go above and beyond glazing Oda.

Jeremy

Well obviously lol

BOLDCAST SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some manga spoilers below ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ @Sakarael I think it's more so that you're just critiquing things based on the story we have so far (presently), and that's just human nature when a mystery is left open. There are so many characters and ideas in Oda's story that people shunned, called plot holes, or claimed were just lazy writing at the time they were published, only to completely understand them years later when the context finally dropped. Think about Sanji stating he was from the North Blue all the way back in Jaya. For over a decade, people called it a massive plot hole that a little kid somehow crossed the Red Line into the East Blue, until Whole Cake Island finally revealed the Germa 66 technology 14 years later. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~MANGA ONLY SPOILERS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We saw the exact same thing with Kaido's short flashback in Wano, people hated it initially, but once Oda expanded on the God Valley incident and the Rocks Pirates later on, it provided immense nuance to his relationship with Big Mom and his personal debt to her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~MANGA ONLY SPOILERS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some of us choose to reflect our criticism with stronger opinions based on what's current, while others prefer to look at how these obscured details will set up things down the road. As you can probably tell i generally look at the implications of what it means in the future. Especially if they feel like open-ended plot holes. The reality is, we just don't know the exact mechanics behind his captures yet. Personally, I've always had a theory that the unique nature of his "Fish-Fish" Fruit hasn't been fully explored. If it grants a passive trait to survive underwater, drowning wouldn't even be an option for the Navy. We already have a canonical precedent for this with Jack the Drought right? because of his ancestry. If Kaido experiences something similar when submerged, drowning him wouldn't execute him, it would just trap him at the bottom of the sea. In fact, that specific trait might very well be what allows him to survive the undersea volcano later on. Of course, that's just speculation and you can even call it part of my own head canon if you like. Whether Oda had all of this mapped out from early on or is filling in the gaps as he goes doesn't really matter. The point is that One Piece is a massive slow burn story, and history shows that what looks like a glaring logical gap, is usually just a setup for clarity and a massive payoff in the future. That being said you have every right to look at things as you see them written, especially after us being long finished with wano. But never forget as much as wano is a story about taking down emperors and freeing the land of wano from the beast pirates control, it is also a massive setup arc for something far deeper and of a larger scale in the future.

gun um

unbelievible we're going to 1015

Instead of padding I consider it seasoning. Just let them cook

It's not a plothole. Kaido wants a grand death. It's pretty clear

idziman

If I was 14, the "Why doesn't Kaido just drown himself?" question would be deep

But you really seem misunderstand it lol. You CAN dislike it, there is nothing wrong with that. But calling something a plothole because you simply don't want to accept that characters motivations is fundamentally misunderstanding what is happening. That fact that you brought up your likes and dislikes makes it pretty clear you didn't even understand what my comment said nevermind the story lol That or you think plothole is a opinion based thing. But bottom line is that you are misunderstanding something here

Broooooo hahahaha, people that skip the discussion will never know

you are right. I left the boldcast discord due to people being unable to even accept that oda isn a god with no issues in his writing, especially sanji here. Wano in its entirety is very very messy. You will just be talking in a echo chamber circle until they drown you out. You are right that its not well written. Someone can like it or not but its clearly one of many points that will be argued forever because people refuse to admit its not very consistent besides being used for hype and aura. I love Kaido but the oda glazers are crazy man. You dont like something or see an inherent flaw and they just claim you dont even get the story which is such a dumb oda fan thing to do and is just said to discredit you so they dont have to think or admit there are flaws. No other series has such a fanbase that cant critique their own franchise. have my replies off only in here for a reason. Speak your truth king. I had sanji try to defend usopp running away in dressrosa arguing stuff like "why would it matter if hes friends with Leo" defending usopp for running away when i said its a terribe character moment since, even if he forgot the Strawhats he left his new friends and WOULD NOT have returned without the speaker so he could hear their cries.... But god forbid someone state a fact. They started circling like piranhas the mods teamed on me just to side with their favourite. I left and got 3 dms from separate people after i left, telling me they were to scared to back me up. Its a toxic circle and you wont be getting much actual good will discussions here.

@Sakarael You're allowed to feel whatever you want to feel. But it's been a few times I've seen you throw around "Buddy, I'm about to finish my Masters in literature and history" in the comments, as if that makes you an authority on anything. You're always trying an appeal to authority because you can't rebute facts or arguments the others are presenting you with, but that's not how this works at all. Or would you say that JD Vance (who has his Doctor of Law (Juris Doctor) from Yale) understands the laws or know how they work in his country better than his opponents who want to stop him & his friends from tearing the consitution apart, even if they don't have a law degree?

Sakarael

@ImZeaT I used it like two or three times out of dozens and I never used it as an appeal to authority. Like, brother, if you actually read the comments where I say it, I use it because other people accuse me I'm to dumb to read. Or that I have no reading comprehension. I have NEVER used my degree to say I am right and you are wrong. Like wtf are you talking about.

Murkou

You can do jokes carson, its fine lmao
