Never be afraid to theorize freely! Speak your mind and don’t think about the comments!

The Catling Gun makes it's appearance

Kiki Varas

I love when there are long discussions. And my goat Yamato! He is the best and great character design in my opinion.

Sanji Joestar

I love how Kanjuro and Kiku's epithets reflect on their moments Evening Shower Kanjuro revealed his true face during a storm And Kiku of the Fallen Snow is facing him on the winter side of the island. I really like how Oda uses climates sometimes.

Always LOVE the long discussions and hearing theories keep it up!

Sanji Joestar

Don't be afraid to talk about your Kaido theorizing If you think you're thinking too deep maybe you're maybe you aren't Personally I don't like to inform more, whether you're on the right or wrong path. Which can be difficult because then other comments might try to clarify things for you and inadvertently send you into thinking you're thinking 'wrong'. It's very hard to juggle.

JoyBoy

I quite frankly love your theories.

idziman

I think some of the worry around "theorizing wrong" comes from the fear that, if the part that you theorize doesn't come true, you'll end up disappointed with the story or the direction you think it's going at the time, causing it to color your experience negatively. I'm not exactly sure when this mindset started, but I really started to notice it around Act 2 of Wano in the manga.

Sakarael

Long discussion video for an episode that basically adapts only half a chapter?! Ain't saying no to that. The pacing is god-awful at this point. But at least the discussion keeps moving, even when the story does not!

BIG SPOILERS . . . . . . . . . . I think this was a product of Wano, as you said. Wano has been retroactively "whitewashed" by a lot of newer fans who got into One Piece during Covid, while a lot of older fans were incredibly frustrated with Oda and felt like he was failing to deliver on the expectations he had set up HIMSELF beforehand. So, as a defense mechanism, especially after Wano Act 2, which a lot of people thought was just horrible, with the Big Mom stuff being a prime example, they simply abandoned all expectations and theories in the hopes of getting more enjoyment out of the story. And I think it works, because without any theories or expectations, Wano is an amazing arc. I just feel like looking at it from a more narrative perspective, especially when you take into account all the buildup and expectations Oda himself created, makes it imho mid at best.

idziman

That's not what I'm talking about at all. I'm taking about the people who saw Big Mom wash up on Kuri with amnesia and concluded "Oh, so this is how we're gonna beat Kaido. Amnesiac Big Mom will take him out so we won't have to fight him. Wow this story is shit," and then would constantly complain when their "predictions" didn't come true. These people were crazy and deserved to be ridiculed. I for one thought Wano was a master class in writing an exciting week-to-week story. There wasn't a single week where I wasn't wowed by an amazing interaction or stunned by a new revelation. I still do, adaptation aside. Looking back on it now, all these years later, I'm still impressed with how far Oda's storytelling prowess has improved to create a story with so many moving pieces that all fit together.

Don't be afraid to theorize, you'll get some things wrong but you're legitimately the best theorizers I've watched. You get so many things right, your observation haki is off the charts. But even if you didn't, hearing theories is always fun.

Sakarael

SPOILERS . . . . . . My man, I love you, but you are the first person I have ever heard that say with so much conviction. Reading Wano weekly was horror for me. I'm truly glad you got such incredible enjoyment out of it. I didn't. I actually dropped it for 2 years right around this point and came back around the midpoint of Egghead because the story moved sooo incredibly slow without any meaningful moments. And if the story telling was truly as amazing as you make it out to be, then I think the community wouldn't be so divided when it comes to Wano (everyone loves the Water 7 Saga and Paramount War Saga). It isn't as horrible as a lot of the twitter people and piratefolk make it out to be, especially if you can read it in one flow and don't have to wait weekly for the story to barely move. But maybe again, that's an expectations thing, and maybe mine were too high. Maybe it's just a taste thing, and Wano wasn't really mine. Whatever, I've loved Egghead (second favorite arc) and am loving Elbaph right now.

Artemis

Yeah Yamato is absolutely not a Damsel. 😂

Capitano

Love the discussion and the theories! Just a little additional info: it's not confirmed whether Yamato can use "Ryou" aka Advanced Armament Haki. There are two levels to it. Emission, which is letting Armament Haki flow out of your body, making your attack stronger. The second level is Internal Destruction, which is to let Arm. Haki flow into an opponent/object and doing damage from within. It's basically an advanced form of Advanced Armament Haki. You need Internal Destruction to take off the handcuffs. That's why Hyougoro couldn't destroy his collar despite knowing how to use "Ryou"/Emission. So far only Rayleigh and Luffy have explicitly shown Internal Destruction afaik.

I actually think boldcast has been a bit behind with the theories and havent really engaged with OP on a true thematical level so i love some more in depth talk - tbh i think it happens with most OP reactors who cant rewatch or reread certain parts and just tend to forget how heavy and relevent the entire first part of the series is.

Riding a dragon would go pretty hard!

Hiyori is the Vivi, Shirahoshi, and Rebecca of this arc. As you rightly pointed out, I don’t believe it’s up to Yamato to carry on Oden’s legacy, that responsibility falls to Momonosuke. I know many people might not like what I’m about to say, but Yamato is running away from reality. And I’m not referring to the whole gender thing, okay? I think it’s a defense mechanism. Admiring someone isn’t the same as wanting to be that person. Luffy, for instance, admires Shanks, but at no point has he ever tried to become Shanks. Bartolomeo with Luffy. Bellamy with Doffy etc. In fact, I cannot think of any character who, upon admiring another character, actually attempts to become that person, to embody their identity. In my view, that’s neither common nor healthy.

Szonin

I think that Kaido is a very complex character and a lot of people misunderstand him.

Oussama Essamadi

Theorize all you want guys, just don’t go the zkk route LOL

Cheddah Slammer

Love your theories, just you can also pick up on stuff on the slightest comment so I am better of not saying anything in order not to lean you one way or the other.

idziman

It's a skill issue thing, and clearly you need more

David P

I like you Carson, and your theories are interesting. Never change bro, that’s how you got here! : )

Great discussion, honestly. I’ve had a hard time going back to Wano, it’s just a bit too fresh in my mind despite ending years ago. Looking forward to the podcast on this long ass arc.
