Paper faces on parade lookin ass...

Finally, after three (four technically?) seasons of Bridgerton, it is time to appreciate the handsomest boy. Benedict takes center stage to hopefully help us understand why the most eligible bachelor in the whole freakin ton would give up his life as a rake to settle down with, well, anyone!!!

Oh damn wait... that chick in the mask tho! AND THAT TWIST???

Okay yeah, this is gonna be the best season yet.

Also, not sure if you know this or not - the woman playing Araminta (Sophie’s step mom) is the same actress who plays Cho Chang in Harry Potter!! It’s so awesome to see her acting in something so different and so many years later! It’s funny you keep mentioning she looks as young as her daughter because the actress (Kate Leung) has talked about how she was so excited when she was offered a job acting a character that was her age instead of a character that’s so young simply because she looks young! So cool

Here’s the rundown on Sophie and her family for you (in case you don’t figure it out in this ep, I’m commenting as I watch) So Sophie Baek (our main girl) is the bastard daughter of the Earl of Penwood. If the Earl was married to her mom, Sophie would be a lady just like Daphne or any other bridgerton but because she’s a bastard, being the daughter of a nobleman doesn’t mean fuck all. If you can’t tell, it’s literally just a Cinderella story. She’s got her step mother, Araminta, and her two step sisters Rosamund and Posy. You picked up on it a bit in the last episode but Posy (the younger one) is a lot nicer to Sophie, but Araminta and Rosamund are the worst I fear. SOO when Sophie’s dad was alive (as seen in flashbacks) he let Sophie take all the same lessons as her step sisters, but eventually Araminta tried to get her out of them. Then when Sophie’s dad died, Araminta became fully in charge of her and the house and turned Sophie into a maid. Again… very Cinderella! This is gonna cause a whole mess because Benedict can’t marry a maid obviously, so that’s where the conflict of their season is. The season is gonna focus heavily on class difference which I think is so fun

Oh ALSO id like to add in case you were curious - this is the order of ranks in Bridgeton 1. Duke 2. Marquess 3. Earl 4. Viscount 5. Baron So technically if Sophie wasn’t a bastard, she’d be of higher rank than Benedict or any of the bridgertons. That’s why Araminta carries herself the way she does - she’s obsessed with class ranking and the fact that she’s technically higher rank than the Bridgertons because she married an Earl.

I love Benedict. I love Sophie. This season is so goooooooood

Cam Silas

Oh you lowkey absolutely serve Lord Penwood vibes

Rebecca

I’m totally with you, I’m enjoying this season way more than last season (and honestly more than the first couple seasons too). Benedict is just the most interesting Bridgerton and I love Sophie’s story so far too!

Laura

tearing up immediately at anything that remotely reminds you of queen charlotte is so real

Cam Silas

I thought the guy talking to Benedict at the end of the episode also looked familiar and then I realized it’s genuinely because he looks identical to one of the dudes in the Les Mis movie

Cam Silas

Also so sorry to keep commenting but at the end of this episode, there’s a very unclear time jump where Benedict just falls asleep at one party and wakes up at another, but it’s actually been months since the masquerade ball! So he’s sort of forgotten her face by now. That’s a big deal and the show def didn’t make it clear

you not realizing it was sophie at first is killing me

Season 5, let me make you a regency costume!! I was thinking it the entire episode and then you said you wanted to be done up like Benedict. I don't have anyone to make regency menswear for, but it's one of my favourite eras!

Fellow van guy checking in again. I haven't seen this far in Bridgerton so tbh I have no idea why I clicked play but wow I'm glad I did because that bed frame is crazy! Did you custom build it? I mean you must have but it's so cool! Looking forward to the tour once it's ready in a Press Pause.

season 4 is so good in it's own right - definitely better than season 3. I wasn't sure I would continue watching Bridgerton if I didn't like season 4, but it's perfect! I read this book and Colin and Penelope's and this season is following the book very closely so far - more so than any other season. Looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the episodes

Sam Russell

So glad you're into this season! Also, Posy hitting the window is the most I've laughed out loud in a minute.

i think it's very important for this season to realize just how classist this society is supposed to be, the reason Benedict would never in a million years could consider Sophie to be the Lady in Silver is because servants and nobility are two completely different bubbles that don't ever ever intermingle, I've seen some people start to think less of Benedict because he couldn't recognize Sophie, but the idea that a servant would attend a society ball is about as preposterous as a pumpkin turning into a carriage, the only reason he even doubted himself and thought they had met was because of how drunk he was

I am so glad to see I'm not the only one to sob uncontrollably the second there's a Queen Charlotte mention, best Bridgerton season by far!!

ME WANT MORE MOVIE

Thomas Degroat

I was wondering if you were ever going to catch on that it's a Cinderella retelling but since we're past most of that, I guess not.

Rachel Brands

I can't wait for the interactive choose-your-own-adventure season where we get to watch Eric and Lady Danbury fall in love

Emily

No, you're not the only one tearing up during the lady danbury/queen charlotte scenes

Krista

I just saw a tik tok about how there’s too much nudity in tv and movies now and how they want it to stop and it actually stressed me out so bad I had to come back to my safe space. Like it’s okay to see boobs in adult television it’s fine to have fun I promise like I’m actually scared by how many young normal looking people think it’s evil and wrong

Erin

Im expecting a chandelier in the van next episode

Liam Duggan

Alfie, the servant who is Sophie's friend, has got a Lancashire accent (St Helens specifically). A North Western, very working class accent. Often used on British TV as one of the default "this is a poor person" accents. Much like mine from not too far from Lancashire. Or a Cockney.

Gillian

Eric crying in the thumbnail of the second episode of this season of Bridgerton…we are so back.
