We're gonna have to look at that fucking eye for 8 episodes, huh?

Percy is back in season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and so are all of his friends who totally have names and we remember all of them but we don't have time to list them right now.

In the movies, Sea of Monsters is where everything fell apart for this franchise... but will this series break the curse? We're praying to the gods!

I'll spare you my usual negativity and just say that while the Zeus replacement is no lance reddick, i think he brought that "kind of an unreasonable jackass" vibe zeus should have pretty well. I think that you might like next season's plot a lot if they do a good job. I heard the actor for Percy has been sorta frustrated at some of the changes, but sounds more excited for the next one.

I know there's a community of people that really dislike the changes, but I have really loved the changes they've made because they add even more complex layers to an already interesting story, and the changes make sense with the characters/plot that I've adored since reading the series in middle school. I loved Season 1, but Season 2 really stepped it up! They really improved on some of the areas I thought were a little weaker in the first season (pacing + sometimes awkward exposition dumps). I really like how they've made characters that were a little more one-dimensional in the books a lot more interesting (Clarisse, Tyson, even at times Grover!). You can also tell the kid actors have grown much more comfortable in their roles, and are maturing as actors. I do wish the episode run times were a little longer - they worked for this season because this was the shortest book, but moving into the next season, there needs to be longer episodes (or more!) to account for the amount of content there is. Season 3 is going to be a major turning point for the series because it's where the show gets much darker. To give a "millennial comparison", Season/Book 3 is often compared to Goblet of Fire and has the "Cedric Diggory" moment

You're joking about Frederick Douglass but Rick Riordan legit claims in one of the books that Harriet Tubman was a demigod and that's how she freed the slaves!

When I was a kid, I was a big reader, but I’m also hella dyslexic. So, these books were especially hard with names. Funny enough, I got all the Greek gods right, but spent my entire childhood pronouncing Thalia as ‘Thai-la’. Imagine my confusion when I heard it pronounced in the second movie. My world was shaken.

Thalia Castro

"everyone pronounces it different!" welcome 2 my life

Grace Elsie

I know I watch too many commentary tracks, because when I first watched this episode and saw Tyson tearing up, I legit said out loud “Eric and Micah are gonna lose their shit over Tyson’s one big tear.”

I feel crazy leaving so many comments but I’m gonna pull a Cam and give yall a little lore! (Only because I don’t have a discord, sorry Eric). The main lore y’all missed is Thalia died at 15, almost 16 years old. The great prophecy dictates that a halfblood of the big 3 (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades) who reaches 16 will be the one who will either end or save the Olympian gods. Until this point, they’ve all been assuming it will be Percy, because he is the only one who fits. But now, Thalia is back, a child of Zeus, and is already almost of age, which is a huge deal because she can now end or save the world. Ok, outside of the lore, I have such HIGH high hopes for season 3, and I’m so excited for y’all to get some genuinely new shit to react too. I’ve been waiting for an adaptation of book 3 since I was, no joke, 10 years old. I’m now 25. 15 years and they better not fuck it up. If they do it right, season 3 is definitely going to amp up and give you more goblet of fire-esque stakes.

Eric I am sooo excited for you guys to watch Season 3 thank god it's coming out This Year!

Aleks Howes

You mentioned in Harry Potter how Cedric completely changed the course of the story and really raised the stakes. Without spoiling anything, if season 3 adapts the books well, a very different thing with similar results should happen that season. I'm curious to see if they're able to lock in and pull it off. I've been enjoying the show so far, but it did take them a bit to find their footing, and it has been very goofy for a lot of it. I wonder if they'll do the dark, serious stuff from the second half of the book series well.

haley powell

it would take so long to explain the semantics and its not like super important but for context i feel the need to say theyve changed a lot from the books plot wise. im not a book purist by any means but some of the changes do have me wondering if they really IMPROVED anything. like for example the zeus twist about why he made thalia the tree is not in the books (i think overall the changes are just them disney-ifying it)

Elijah O M

I grew up as a huge book fan but haven't read them in years so I felt like watching the series was a great experience for me because I remember enough to enjoy the references but not enough that I'm upset by changes but I do just like the additional breathing room that a show as opposed to a movie allows this adaptation and I was so excited to see that the next season is coming within a year cause although I understand that the 20+ episodes of season is largely a relic of the past. I really hope we see fewer two-year turnarounds for shows that are close to mini-series lengths

Macauly Leiher

You guys could watch the titans trilogy before the odyssey . Remember the titans. Clash of the titans and War of the titans.

Macauly Leiher

I think they skipped the Rainbow riding scene because it’s in the second movie and this series is really trying not to retread things. Also if you skip the credits you don’t see the tease for season 3 it takes you to the rosemary Dewitt scene! And finally I think I would be silly if only one of you read the books but I am so excited for you to only have the move knowledge going into season 3

Jasmin💙

Loved the reaction to the season 3 sneak peak, I can’t wait until it comes out, the third book really felt like turning point to me, so the new season should hopefully pretty good!!

Cam Silas

contrary to popular belief i kinda love when you guys don't pay attention because then i can leave my long ass comments

Cam Silas

LOVED your reaction to the season 3 teaser!

Cam Silas

SO okay the thing with Zeus and Thalia and the tree - In the book, the story is that Thalia was fighting the furies, and they wounded her so bad she was dying, but Zeus saved her soul by turning her into a tree, and then her tree served as a boundary for Camp Half Blood so monsters can't get in. In my opinionnnnn the show made a really interesting change with having Thalia survive the furies, and Zeus turned her into a tree against her will all because she wasn't going to do his bidding when it came to the Great Prophecy (aka just do whatever daddy says). I think it makes Thalia a much more interesting character this way. It also gives Thalia a valid reason to want to join Luke's army, so the audience will now be wondering what side Thalia will end up on. The BIG plot twist in the book is Thalia coming back to life, but that plot twist doesn't work as well in a show imo when you've been using flashbacks all season to lay the ground work for Thalia's character. So it's hinted at pretty much since episode 1 that they're bringing Thalia back just because of how much she's mentioned and showed. They did a great job at keeping the plot twist element with Zeus turning her against her will and I'm excited to see how it plays into season 3

Cam Silas

GREAT commentary track for this season boys. I feel like eric really came around on tyson by the end of the season so I'm taking this as a personal win! I'm so excited for yall to venture into season 3, especially when you have no movies to base it off of LOL. I love watching yall watch this show - again one of my all time PMI moments is when Lin as Hermes is revealed in season 1 and eric just walks out of the house. super excited for this season 2 highlight video because the bits were fantastic. and thanks for reading my comments out! I'm glad they helped! it's so funny to hear my name in these tracks. you guys saying "sorry cameron" when you weren't paying attention is now my new personal favorite bit

Cassidy Mayhew

i’m so excited for you guys to react to season 3 it’s my fav book in the series

Cassidy Mayhew

please pronounce “thalia” like that for the rest of the series

Cassidy Mayhew

chiron back from epstein island ? 👀

bitt3rblu3

I adored Micah’s scream for the Percabeth hand-holding in the season 3 teaser

Bonnie Hay

God that battle at the midpoint of the episode reeked of historical re-enactment. nobody was dressed quite right, nobody was allowed to get legitimately injured...just deeply visually uncompelling. really enjoyed this season though ngl!

Gillian

The idea that you guys thought that a world ending prophecy included two 16-year olds having their first kiss was insanity.

Mason Neil

I know its been MONTHS but I do want to let you guys know that Luke's sword is not named Skull Crusher, that was the name of the giant he was letting into camp. The sword is called Backbiter, and is half celestial bronze and half steel (to cut through both monsters and mortal humans). It can also cut portals into the air which is how he got to Polyphemus' island, he also cuts a portal at the end of season 1 (and I think mentions the name). So glad you guys are liking this show, cant wait to see season 3! and god bless cameron bruh

Jordyn Toonz

Im late to these reactions, but I wanna sort of nerd out here. And not necessarily about the Percy Jackson series, but the universe beyond that. Next season, we should get a character who becomes extremely important for Heroes Of Olympus(HoO), which is a series itself. Hes as you guys would call it, the deus ex machina of that series. This series mixes both Greek and Roman mythology and follows 7 main demigods(from both mythos) on one quest(The Prophecy of 7). Ever since the first Percy movies came out, I had hoped they'd make a series for HoO. I even got fooled when people made fake trailers for it on YouTube :( There are 5 books in that series as well, and my favorite is House Of Hades, which features my favorite plot line of any of his books, and that's Percy and Annabeth trying to escape Tartarus, which is quite literally them walking on Tarturus(a literal god btw) but it's perceived as hell, with blood rivers, spirits, and nightmarish demons. It was some of the most intense readings of my childhood, haha. You guys would probably love that series as it takes itself a bit more seriously in tone, but still has its goofy moments. The events of that series take place shortly after this prophecy, so they are 16-18, but if they look older after the end of this series, I hope they still try to make it happen because the prophecy in HoO isn't timed by age! And yeah, That's Pretty Much It ;)
