Anoush Anou in Ladonia (Patreon)
Content
I went to Ladonia with Anoush Anou. In case you have never heard about it, Ladonia is an independent micronation close to Copenhagen and has a hilarious story that I only think could happen in Sweden.
Anyway, as I usually do when working with models, I book them for a day but split in an evening/morning session, and I sort the accommodation in the middle.
It allows me to shoot in the best light in the evening and morning instead of midday. I've always tried to stack the odds of creating good images in my favor whenever possible, and few models have a problem with splitting a day this way.
All the images are ambient light, varying in character but always usable.
I find that as long as light has a direction, it's only about placing the model in a way that makes the light complement her body instead of work against it.
So when I work on location and find a location or background I like, I generally look at where the light will work and then try to frame that with my desired background. For the fourth and fifth images, this entails being onsite by sunrise as this is the optimal light, and you get the best feeling for the sculpture from the direction I have shot it in, as the structure is situated on a hillside.
I shot the last image after sunset; the only "trickery" was getting some extra definition out of the moon. The lighting doesn't work well, but the photo reminds me of Botticelli's Venus De Milo.
