I've had the pleasure of working with Fredau over a period of three three days. This set is from a studio day where I was playing with hard light. In this case, I used a Fresnel spot from a distance to give a really hard light and avoid light hitting the ceiling and thus reflecting everywhere. The challenge was mostly getting good background separation, which I accomplished by placing a big foam board in the path of the light to cast a shadow.

As you can see in this video, I pay a lot of attention to making sure I don't have light reflecting from unwanted places. That is a significant part of achieving a clean look for my lighting.

It's only the first 4 min that is interesting - on the rest I start setting up some other lighting

So the Fresnel lens has both a quite strong continuous light and a strobe function, or is there a strobe in that structure to image-left of the Fresnel that is aligned with the Fresnel?

The fresnel lens is a lens, nothing else. You can get or make various adaptors in this particular lamp that allow you to attach different lamps. In this case, it's an Elinchrom D500 Flash - which also has a 300w halogen pilot light. So, in this case, it can be used as both a continuous light or as a flash if you need more output. I frequently use it with a Profoto B10 lamp and only use the LED pilot light
