Make 'em regret it with the Path of the Ill-Omened!

GMBinder

Our subclass poll winner for January was the Path of the Ill-Omened Barbarian! A barbarian whose rage is entwined with a nasty curse, granting them the power to force misfortune and ruin on their foes.

Our core feature at level 3 is Cursed Rage. It gives you an aura while you rage, which lets you inflict a -1d4 penalty on all the attack rolls of you and your enemies. If your own attacks hit, you deal a little extra damage. Agent of Disorder also kicks in for a little flavor, granting you free hits against objects. Withering Blow at 6th lets you force enemies to make a Con save, or get slowed and take a little damage when they start their turns next to you. It's fairly potent for a Barbarian 6th, but your level 3 feature is mostly defensive, so it's a welcome boost to your offense. Shield of Misfortune at 10th level grants you resistance to necrotic damage, and the ability to take a little damage to extend it to all your allies — the definition of situational, but great when it's worth it. Ruinous Warrior tops you off at level 14, granting you the ability to cast bestow curse in place of an attack, once per rage.

As always, you're invited to come discuss and offer feedback on Discord!

Bestow Curse is interesting. It's an underused spell, in general.

As with a lot of pretty-decent 3rd and 4th-level spells, it's good but overshadowed by fireball, haste, etc. In this case, I think it's got a lot of synergy with the barbarian's existing kit.

Necronomicronic V

At least partially, in this case, this is due to the fact that Bestow Curse is a touch spell. But you are not wrong, often players default to 'bang for your buck' rather than theming or flavor.
