Hey there,

There has been some chat about not loving the recent stamped FF branding on the models. In the past a couple of people said they wanted it, but recently some are saying to ditch it.I started doing it because there seems to be a lot of copycats lately, and I wanted to distinguish my models as authentic Flexi Factory designs.Honestly I can go either way, so I decided to go with the consensus.

Lori Calvert

Love the FF ... the models deserve to have your mark to them!

S TATTS

Can it be put somewhere else on the model as it doesn't always print smoothly on bottom unless i slow it right down lol

Nadine A

I would keep it because we pay to sell your products and a copy cat could be spotted and reported easier. Putting it somewhere else would be better though as it affects the print.

Sinista Troopah

imo if i would keep it if someone wants to ditch it you can with the slicer its not hard but that stops ppl from stealing your stuff my guy!! keep up the good work will you drop a 3mf with your ender setings?

Larry Cobb

If your going to brand it, give it a cleaner classy look.

Hero Electronics

I'd say if it's possible, only put it on patreon exculsives.

Tewfik

I'm conflicted. On one hand it makes sense to defend the IP. At the same time, given that most here that do this for resell already clearly display the Artist/Designer logos at PoS, often with pride even, do we really still need the signature on these items? I for one could really do without it for a number of reasons, none of them meant to disrespect the amazing work we get to share in here. That being said, really cool to put the question to the Patreons to vote on.

Luke A

I'm new here and I haven't sold any prints yet. Since I have no experience with the "FF" and customers, I asked four friends what they thought. Everyone said that they would prefer not to see it, but would be ok with it hidden somewhere. No one said it was a deal breaker. If I do end up posting any items for sale, I will probably take a photo showing the "FF" just so the buyer knows that it is there.

David Smith

Hi, I think if perhaps you could put the FF on a slant / staggered that would make it look nicer - but i think you should have it on the models as you are right there have been dozens of listings recently on ETSY and the likes selling what appears to be your models with no authorised seller on it

David Smith

I do understand people saying about the poor printing, i have various kick arse printers running at 250ms or even a 400ms and i agree these printers just would fall over if trying to print one of these models

Adam Ward

Just my opinion but I would just make a different file for each with and without the FF marking. That would satisfy everyone I feel.

dan jordan

I voted "ditch it" but only in current form. I would love if the "FF" was "Easter egged" somewhere on the model but dislike any text in the first layer unless part of over all design. This makes bulk printing more unreliable in the current form. If the 5th first layer fails on a plate with 5 models I've waisted hours.

Grady Breece

Its not overly complicated to remove it, if people don't want it. My vote is to keep it on your Patreon releases.

cutiepieme3d

I’m not keen on script or logos…. Just the models please

Chris

I say keep it to prevent copy cats unless you have another idea in mind.

Ed Owens

The logo will not prevent copycats as it can be removed by anyone with blender knowledge. But it is an inconvenience having to explain random marks on a model you are trying to sell that take away from the look.

Chris Gibbons

Meh, if people are bothered it takes seconds to remove them. You can even do it right in the slicer.

stevie sanderson jr

Put it on the bottom of the feet like Andy and woody. Small “flexi”

2PrtzcreationLLC

I just noticed it on the back of the robot. i think that its a cool thing to have on it. please keep it there. continue to produce all your awesome products.

Kevin247

I am not keen on the overt branding of anything. That being said, I love the idea of it being an easter egg in the prints. An example would be giving the kangaroo flexi branded boxing gloves. When the manufacturer would normally put their white tag in the small section on the glove where you stick your hand in, just a little 'FF' or 'Flexi'.

Isaac Reed

You could release a version with it and a version without for patreons so they can choose

jeremy andersen

I’m both depends on the model and if there is room and won’t cause a problem

3D Zone

I would like the "blank version" here on Patreon, but "branded" if you buy elsewhere, this would tell you where your model came from as well. "marketing tracking"

Zack Auldridge

You work hard creating these models, you deserve recognition through the branding.

ErickDR 3D Designs

From a commercial perspective, I'm not a fan. I'm guessing that a majority of folks voting "yes" aren't trying to make a living selling prints. If this is going to be a normal thing going forward, I won't be continuing my membership for long I don't think.

3D Printing4$

I have a retail print store in the mall. I have buckets of your prints. Not a single customer ever has complained. Keep your branding on them.

magic3Dmike

Zero problems with you putting your mark on your design. ZERO

Frank Nolet

I’m not going to vote. BUT it may not be a bad idea to have both?

Tulsa Arcades

Nothing wrong with branding your designs and products. We do it. If people want it and want to support it they won’t care

Nick Pearson

your design so see no issue in having the ff on them credit where credit is due

SM-3D

i would rather it say Flexi factory than ff only because I will end up having to explain what ff means every time

Christina E Kuhn

Not a fan if it for commercial purposes. Customers may not like it. I'd rather error on the side of not having it and them liking it, than having it and wanting to know what it means

Blake Centauri

it depends... generally it should be fine... but for example on the heart, if you give it to someone and she/he asks.. who is FF?? .. not the best move :)

BradBoll

As others have noted, from a commercial perspective, some of the customers buying a print might not want the FF on a printed figure or wonder it is means.

Jo

maybe there is a way to embed the logo inside the entire model, a place where copycats wouldnt realize its there, but you would know if you preview the slice and look during the "hidden" layers, that would tell you for sure if your work is stolen, but also appease the merchant backers

Jason Mooney

My only concern with the FF was on the standing heart. It was in a different color. I just want to make sure it's the same as the surrounding color so there isn't additional filament switching when using a 3MF file.

David Jon Sieben

My only issue would be placement on print, as long as it wasn't too intricate as to cause issue with initial layer/s. Once again Dan has nailed it again, the current FF looks perfect.

William Hargraves

Bare in mind when making your decision that you've got over 2000+ patrons that is still over 500 that don't agree its not like its only a couple of people saying they don't like it nor want it . Thanks Dan

Dan

Yes, understood.

FestFajne.pl

Hey :) I voted "ditch it!" and it's not like I would stop my suport because of the logo, but in the long run it's problematic. Some client's like "clean" not branded stuff (so those sales are probably lost) and where the logo should be for example: on a T-Rex ? It's destroys the beauty of the model in this case... In summary: it makes some sales and logo placement on some models harder. Maybe there is some other way that no one thought of before ? :)

3D Printin 4 Cheep

Honestly the copy cats will just remove your info anyway so it would save you the time appling it in my opinion

Fused Garage

I haven't really seen that many copies out there that are as good as the original files. I would help when people decide what is the original vs the fake

Nick Bohmer

I hope you ditch it in my opinion it adds nothing to the model and only detracts from it. As others have pointed out it would only take seconds for someone to remove the stamp.

Amanda Judd

This is a good idea. I voted to leave it.. but I didn't think of this as an option. I'd choose this option if it was in the poll.

Amanda Jones

Absolutely keep it in order to reduce the amount of copycats/stolen STL files out there.

David Jon Sieben

I do not mind promoting/advertising Flexi Factory with my Patrons, they love your work!!

David Jon Sieben

I do not mind promoting/advertising Flexi Factory with my Patrons, they love your work!!

Jason

Your models beat the copycats.

Yusuf Carrim

Your branding is your hard work. I was happy when I saw it. Keep it.

Justin Posey

Don't care either way. Do what is best for business

Jeremy Stewart

I see no problem with the branding on the models.

Setral

I liked the old FlexiFactory branding on the back of the models. But I don't mind the FF. Keep it either way!

stjohnny22

Agreed, I think the artistic style speaks for itself. That said, inner non- visible branding just apparent in the slicer isnt a bad idea.

Noel Brooks

I don’t mind it. You need to do what is best for you. It’s hardly noticeable most the time anyways. I say leave it.

Ryan Hills

Protect your brand, leave it!

Donald Coleman

Keep it. But maybe 'hide' it in a joint or someplace not obvious, but easy enough to spot for copycats/thieves...

PROTONORD

It's like having a woddy with Andy under it while your name is Joe 🙂

Katrina Hunter

But your models are way better than any copies.

Jenett Houghton

Keep it- it’s your right as a brand owner

Eric Lambert

it is your creation and you need reconnaissance

ahmed j orra

I would rather see the entire name instead of ff if you decide to brand them

GamerTempo

It's your brand and image. It's important to protect it.

Jo

I agree with Donald Coleman

Andrew Henderson

Don’t mean to sound crass but you keep that branding. This is your design who cares what others think on this idea. Protect what’s yours and keep making others jealous! Love the work keep them coming!

Nigel

I don’t see the problem, I always state it’s a flexi factory model when I’m selling and your right to want to protect your brand.

Dustie Chase

Keep it its your model not ours we may sell the prints but you should be proud and get all credit for your hard work

Tyson

I think it helps it stand out as genuine, but would love the logo, or Flexi. something to say "this is flexi facotry"

Ignacia Olivares A.

i don't mind it and i think you're totally entitled to have it there, it's your brand and a great one at that so totally undertandeable to have it there

Nigel

That being said I didn’t even know you had started it lol gonna inspect the recent models I’ve printed now 🤣

KWMiner

Keep it, you have to protect your designs

Nikki Line

i like it. it’s important to show your brand and it’s a small ff on the bottom - not like you are plastering it on the face or something. you aren’t the only one doing it so keep doing it.

Jeff Hearrell

It's not hard to remove it, editing the stl is easy to do.

Francis Pelland

I don't mind the branding, but from another angle it does introduce complexity: - I usually scale down models. At a smaller scale these can look like imperfections when printed, especially with a larger 0.6mm nozzle. - For those who also use to sell the printed models, it does get confusing for the buyer when they see a logo that's not yours. I've had a buyer complain that I was "reselling" when in fact I was the one that printed. Can branding be optional? I proudly share and have brought many new members to this Patreon. But the branding on the models brings a new twist

Brittney Tholen

Keep it. This is your hard work! You deserve to be recognized for all the work you put into your files.

k l

Absolutely keep it! Make it bigger for all I Care! Add a lithophane of your face on the bottom of every print for all the nay sayers, we support you 💜💜

Gabi

I don’t think I’ve ever noticed it so I guess I don’t mind it lol!

William

Are those that hate it trying to pass them off as their designs? Keep them its your design.

Philippe Mayné

Don’t see how it could avoid any copycat hate to have mark on those as I engrave name of the owner. It’s just awe full and inneficient if I can copycat I can easilyy remove it in blener and else it’s just ruin the design

Ian Douglas

What about watermarking the INSIDE of the print? Much harder to edit out later.

Drew Graham

I agree with Francis here. I don't mind them at all and like many other have said they are your models. When I sell any prints that other designers have made I always tell the customer that I an a licensed manufacturer and I have the rights to sell the physical prints. I also tell them where I get them from if they would rather print them themselves.

Sparkss

My first thought was to make the branding subtle and unobtrusive then I realized that you had already started adding it and I never noticed, so I guess it is already subtle and unobtrusive, at least for the ones I have printed :)

Hoyt Howerton

These are phenomenal and you absolutely deserve credit. The only reason for someone to remove it is to claim it as their own. A simple mark like the FF on the bottom of your cat is perfectly acceptable to me.

Fady Sinno

Who cares…I never even noticed it before. It your business and the prints you put a lot of time into! Leave them on there.

@d3d_creative

I really don't know why you're putting this to a vote, it's your brand and you have a right to protect it from copycats. I was confused why you put it on the Cat but now know why. We have seen the Imperial Dragon put on printables.com and loads of people stole your work. if branding was on it maybe this wouldn't have happened. I don't mind either way but frankly the decision is yours and yours alone, it's not up to us how you brand your work to protect it from plagiarism.

David

I think branding is great, but including both options would be nice as well. Thanks

Mark Tuttle

It looks great on the cat, didn't even notice I had to check. Keep it

Jerry

If it is doable, I think it would be best to have with and without for those that dont like it. Good toys from the store arent stamped with branding, so if we're paying for these models we should have the branding (if we dont want them). The stamp of the brand on the toy doesn't provide you hardly any recognition anyway. You get the majority of your recognition when someone asks, "What is that" or when someone see's a listing for sale online

Cr Th

Other Patreon designers hide it inside the design somewhere less obvious, so you know it is yours w/o it being glaringly obvious. On the other hand more simple straight forward designs make it harder to hide that. I'm good with it. It's your work you sign it how you want! We will still print them all day long!

Herb Veitenhans

Not true at all. Some of us are selling these models we print. Now if the FF was on the back and not visible then I wouldn’t mind.

goldwolfnhn

probably the majority of the people complaining are the ones that want to claim the prints as their own.

Kris Garner

If you want to mark your work, that's fine. But I would suggest putting it somewhere less visible. Some other makers put them inside of a joint or inside of a hollow model.

Chris Toscano

I was just going to suggest this. Another Patreon I belong to does this rather well.

hawthorne3d

I'd prefer if you kept it. You deserve to protect your brand with all the amazing work you do!

Misti

Kids toys with a F on it. Just didn't feel right. Not opposed to the branding, but another design would look better. Would prefer non branded prints for Subscribers and branded for non monthly supporters. As those selling should be adding credit anyway. Those who don't want Flexi to have credit will find a way to remove it.

Hobby Maniac

It can be optional for it so everyone can be happy about it.

Thor

I don’t mind if it was hidden a little more. Smaller or within the print for you to determine copyright but not so much people ask whose initials are these and people not wanting FF on their toy in large letters.

Hoyt Howerton

Then sell it with the mark on it. Don't see the problem.

Herb Veitenhans

I think that's a good idea, perhaps on the back of the model and not visible on the bottom of the foot.

3D OG Creations

You do need to protect your work from the copycats. As suggested above maybe less obvious in a neck joint

k l

I think that's a little overboard no? The letter F is in thousands of words. Are you implying because f is used in a curse word? What if something for a child like a dog toy for example was named floppy frank, would that be a no go? No Hate, trying to understand where you're coming from here.

Misti

Just the kids I've been around would think it's funny but not all parents would. But every one raises their kids differently.

Robert Button

They are your designs you spend the time doing all the hard stuff, so why put your brand on it, you deserve all the credit.👍

Leigh Johnson

I guess for me it isn't a huge issue in general, it was just the heart model in particular that made it overtly obvious on the foot that is part that may well be displayed. I can imagine questions of who or what FF means on a valentine's gift

Leigh Johnson

On the cats it is a subtle FF on the belly which is fine, on the hearts it is deeply imprinted on the foot similar to the BE MINE message on the back

Trolinka

Of course keep it! It's your work, your brand (but it's very nice that you ask :>)

John Finnie

As long as it’s not in your face I don’t mind it

toozie21

keep it. It is your work and it shows that it is officially one of your products. I wouldn't make it an option to have both to download though, that is just too many files.

Daniel Behrens

Make it kinda hidden and I’m totally for it

Wicked Witch Wax Co

You deserve to get credit and recognition from YOUR BRAND 👏

Themes3d

There are always going to be copy cats so having a logo is not going to stop them from copying your style. The question be asked is why few people do not want the logo? Its understandable if non patreon or non subscribers not liking it but for us who have subscribed I believe we use the Authorized flexi seller badge anyway so there is not doubt of taking any credit from Flexi Factory. In my opinion for patreon/subscribers there need not be a logo but is good idea for people who buy one off from cults3d and other platforms. I liked having no logo on your design.

Lieselot De Waegeneer

Wait what? I’m going to check it tonight, didn’t see that haha

Chris Berardi

I’d rather you keep it. I know I’ve seen one of your designed uploaded to Thingi at some point, and being able to easily identify stolen IP is helpful to the community as a whole. Some people don’t care, but i’m of the opinion that it is no bueno.

Jeremy P

Keep it. It’s your work. Absolutely brand it

AntriochDesigns

Well, first time I’ve made a comment to any of these but I personally say these are your models, your designs and have your time in them. You deserve the recognition and praise for your work. Ultimately I say it’s up to you but I’d leave it.

MilneCreates

I dont mind it on there but the model can print beautifully and the FF not perfect

Mike Kay

maybe a smaller size branding would be a compromise

Robert

I don't mind it but ssome times when having first layer issues the name is hard to print if you could shorten it to just F/F would be better in my opinion

James Delfino

It's caused multiple first layer issues for me, and I've had to throw away prints. On the ones it has printed correctly, it looks terrible. If this is going to be the way all future prints are, I'm out.

Atheris 3D

There will be copy cats no matter what. Someone will just copy your branding stamp if they wanted. Ultimately, I think any model always look better without branding stamped into it.

Danica Krieger

A version with and a version without is also an option. So we can choose. I just print for my son and I find the logo distracting from the design. I don’t mind letting people know you designed it, you deserve credit, but logos on prints is not my favorite.

SSZ Canada

For those people who have issues with it, you can remove it from the final print by dropping the model to like -0.2mm than slicing it. This will remove the first couple of layers with the text on the final print while allowing the models to be stamped for added security.

Leigh Johnson

that wont work on the heart, it is on the sole of the foot that isnt on the build plate

Leigh Johnson

on the updated model it is on the foot, you can sit the heart using the hands facing backwards and it is really obvious then

John Beima

I really don't see a challenge with it. Any "brand" always puts its label on a design/product. This also lets people know it is the real deal. Well until the cheap clones simply include it as well. Guess it really depends on what your end game is with the print.

Herb Veitenhans

If customers complain about it then it's a problem. You also stated that people are trying to claim it as their own, which isn't true for everyone.

Hoyt Howerton

A subtle watermark on a product is no different than signing a painting. Don't see your issue. If your customers have an issue with something so minute you need a better base.

Herb Veitenhans

It's not a subtle watermark though, and it's an issue my customers have, not me. They are also not trying to "claim it as their own" as you stated. Have a nice day.

David Wettlaufer

just remove it. I like a clean print. always looks bad to have a logo on something that doesn't need it.

Hayley marks

Keep it bc it gives you credit when people are trying to say it was their idea. Other creators are doing the same thing.

Hoyt Howerton

You're the kind of guy to Photoshop an artists signature out or their painting? Same thing right?

Aaron Wade

Definitely keep it at least as an option/version. It is helpful at conventions to make sure I give credit to you as the artist.

Sooprtrukr

I understand the thwarting the copy cat. Maybe some type of watermark say like a slight symbol with on a joint or something unique like that.

Loadinglevelone

One option is to hide the FF branding internally, inside the model, like part of the structure. Branding on the first layer is too easy to remove in meshmixer or similar if one wanted to

Herb Veitenhans

Not sure where you're going with your comment, but I don't do anything of the sort. Your over simplification of people trying to "claim it as their own" isn't true either. Enjoy your day.

Nic Wilson

Of course keep it. I have doubt about anyone wanting to ditch it, the brand is yours, and we support you and the brand.

Matthew3DPrints

I'm not crazy about it but I recognize the importance of including it on each model. I'm printing the heart right now and simply changed the color of FF from white to red, so it's still there just not as prominent. Maybe a smaller watermark would suffice?

William Hargraves

Not a fan to be honest as it looks very rushed . If it were more like the stlflix one as it's far deeper and has far better details with your name and logo I wouldn't of minded . Just a suggestion if you're not going to scrap it as it's pretty simple if people are going to steal your models and emboss Letters on them there self ,its not very hard to take 0.2mm off the bottom of the model . Maybe instead of doing a FF make your own special markings be it a small random shaped hole or your picture logo if you have one 👍

Charles Hoge

As long as it doesn’t interfere with the overall look of the piece there should be a branding mark to show it is official.

Be open to being the villain in your own story

I'm fine with it (I sign photographic prints, so I totally understand), but if you wanted a smooth bottom to your models, you could always emboss an FF onto the side near the joints of one of the segments.

Chris Griffin

I don't mind it and it shows the item is legit. I think you should protect your hard work

TheCraftyLycan

It's your model. Do what you want with it. Anyone legit won't care about it. I'd try to get your entire name on the model though.

k l

adding onto this, would be neat to make the FF stamp within the infill. Some prints i've added small voids inside the infill so I can pause the print and insert beads to make it a rattle toy in the end. Could be a neat way to make the FF logo Functional as well!

William Bond

I agree to make it internally, this way both sides are satisfied

DayOne3D

I would prefer a logo in the joints or another non-obvious location. Or non at all, at least for patrons. I sell primarily at events and flea markets and I have had customers think I'm reselling things when they see a logo they're not familiar with on a printed item. I do always state that they are Flexi Factory models though and have a sign. I never claim them as my own designs. That should be enough. My two cents.

R&B Creations

I don't necessarily LIKE it. I think it's cleaner without, but with that being said;it's your design and if you want to keep it, do it. As long as you don't place it where it takes away from the design, who cares? Nobody gets mad at a brand on a horse lol

the 3D Loft

One thing that I know a few other artists do is they don't make the lettering or stamp in an incredibly obvious space, but rather hide it someplace out of the print surface area to make it so that it's not affecting print quality which would appears to be some people's problem.

the 3D Loft

For example, if you were to look at the Mcgybeer Dragons he actually has his logo stamped behind the head of his dragon. The only see it when you render it in a slicer. It wouldn't be hard to put a FF somewhere pretty inconspicuously but only you would know where it would be. So if a copycat were to show up, you'd be able to identify your model from theirs

the 3D Loft

It's always hard to figure out what's the best course of action though on free models. I definitely stamp my username or something on there as people know that I made it. But when someone's purchasing it, it's a different story. Especially if it's got a commercial license then you've got to deal with that. So inconspicuous kind of works for both parties because you never know what license people would have based off of a patron service

Floo Nasif

a doberman! Any chance you can make one? different breeds of dogs

TK Kinney365

We are buying the right to print and sell, not "white labeling" the design. That would be much more expensive than some realize. If you want to offer an option and charge for it, sure, but it would be thousands and require a binding contract, no?

J Maxx

Branding sets you apart from other competitors and it's a way for buyers to remember you and be connected. I think it's a move forward in your business, it establishes trust and loyalty.

Cara Street

I don't mind it at all! :)

Joseph Olson

I'm for it, I don't mind at all.

Paige's Purlieu

This is how I feel PLUS I don’t want anyone to be stealing his designs and that’s the best way to guarantee that his designs are set apart from others.

Peter

I like it.

eric barker

I am strongly opposed, mostly because is can actually print poorly or even cause issues on the first layer. If you insist on leaving it, please keep it so that I can push the object below the build plate to prevent it from printing, without adversely affecting the model. -0.25mm put this below the build plate in the slicer, it it prints ok.
