Please check out this post for how to access: https://www.patreon.com/posts/access-past-how-101416737.................................................................................................................Update includes: 12_24_2023 - printmill versions- upgraded wings to make connector beefier- wingless version- zipped 3mf files and stl files separately for easy cataloguing - updated painted files, small color changes.............................................................................................................................It has been almost two years since the Imperial Dragon made its debut, so I figured it was finally time for another :)I am so excited about this model with the added pop-in wings, opening mouth with fire, and improved stability in the head feature. The mostly print-in-place design allows for easy color combinations. As you can tell, the spikes are reminiscent of the original dragons design, but have been upgraded to improve printability and to add stability to head and neck!Print Settings and Info:- 15% infill, 3 walls, .12 or .16 layer height preferred- I use a disappearing purple glue stick for great adhesion, especially on the smaller prints- 50% Mech Dragon in Bambu Ocean to Meadow PLA - 75% Mech Dragon in Stronghero Galaxy Red with Sunlu Silver Wings and Fire- 100% Mech Dragon in Shengtian Rose Gold (it is definitely shiny chocolate brown) , Wings and Fire in TTYT3D Rainbow

I will be adding photos of the painted dragons when completed, but REALLY wanted to get this out before the holiday travels begin. Wishing all of you a wonderful Holiday Season, Safe Travels, and Happy Printing -Dan

Andrew

And I just started a 24h print 😭 now I have to wait

3D Print Pro Studio

Great model! Saw it right when it was posted! Can't wait to print it!

Vinny Ferraro

Yay!! So glad you took my suggestion about the fire!! It looks awesome!!

Holli

Looks sick!

Gotwood Customs & 3D Prints

This is wicked. Getting it on a printer right now. Could we also get a wingless version?

Andy's 3D

Awesome i was printing your imperial dragon, but now i want this one

Mysticrain13

Can’t wait to start this !!!

Daveks6 k

Excellent work again, wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas too

Veteran3DPrint

Really excited about this one can't wait to see how it comes out. Thanks

Kevin Brashears

Looks Great! It will be next to go on! Thanks!

J K

👏👏👏👏👏 Your dragon just became the Mother of All Dragon prints! This is spectacular!

Dan

That would take at least a week to redesign :( I have to balance the wings and head and lots of troubleshooting.

Dan

Yes, it was in the works as you saw with the mouth cannon :)

Dan

noooooo

Vinny Ferraro

OH. I didn’t even notice that originally, whoops!

Terry F.

Been waiting for this the sneak peak!! Just sad all my printers are working and won’t be open for 16hrs :( can’t wait to print this!!!

Jasmine Julian

SO GOOD 😍 definitely printing this when I get home tonight!

J Maxx

Magnificent... Thank you😍

Emma C

He is epic!! 🤩🤩🤩

Shakaworld3d

Excellent work!!! will be printing this tonight - which program do you use for design

Dan

3ds Max

Mark Tuttle

Dan, do you know why when splicing in bambu it ask to simplify the model

Vogel 3D Crafts

So cool! Any chances of a version with no wings? I sworn off printing winged dragons recently haha

K-doug Playz

Can you make a file of the dragon that is straight so I can print it on my CR-30

Mike Meyer

Im getting 24 hours plus for print time! Anyone else?

John Rigirozzi

Merry Christmas to you and all the patreons. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to all these models you design.

Mike Meyer

75% is 13 hrs for me

Louis Gattone

When changing the bambu 3mf to 75%, arranging all objects to avoid the collision warning, and then slicing it, Bambu Studios throws the following warning: "It seems object flexi factory Mech Dragon Body.stl has floating regions. Please re-orient this object or enable support generation". Is this ok?

James Williamson

I added the one plate STL to my K1 max. increased to 140%. 61 hour print. Praying I have no hick ups mid way

Wade McIntyre

This looks awesome. Printing now.

3D Go Brrr

So freaking excited to print this! Just gotta wait for my 28 hour print to finish 😭 thank you for all the awesome prints Dan! Merry Christmas!

Shane Cloete

Thank you so much for this :)

Dan

I promise it doesn't need supports. The slicers do throw codes on my models often because I test the limits of overhangs.

Louis Gattone

I believe you. I’ll send it ;)

Dan

Yes. It is complex and it makes the slicers head hurt. Haha. Lots of little triangles :) No need to simplify.

Shane Cannon

just got off of the printer and it looks awesome!!!

Paul Simister

Looks amazing. Can't wait to get this on the printer.

Be open to being the villain in your own story

Printing the 1 plate Mech dragon on my K1 Max. I'm headed to bed, but I hope I don't wake up to a box of spaghetti (I typically don't have much luck with complex prints this big on my other printers, but the new one might surprise me)

William Crawford

I've been very much looking forward to this one since the preview posted!

Dan

I can do that.

K-doug Playz

When will you release the file for it?

Andrew Gosnell

Looks great! I printed last night on P1S.

Rick Sollis

Awesome mordel! QQ regarding the purple glue, I've found it extremely difficult to remove the parts when using the purple glue, is there a trick to removing the parts with out breaking them?

Erin O

Printed a 70 and 80% version last night. 3 walls, .16 layer, 15% infill on an X1 and P1S. Both came out pretty good using the all on one plate file. Joints all work, etc. Did find a weak point though on the wing of the 70% version where the smallest straight piece goes in to round upper section of the wing. Granted it was silk, but it's a pretty narrow section and didn't take much at all for it pop off. Looks great otherwise.

Darknynja

Holy cow! This is amazing!

Kellen Richard

Printed last night on a k1 in yousu tri color silk. Came out great

James Williamson

I put on my K1max 140% 60 hours and on my K1 100% 21 hours

Carla Schrum

printed good for me except the wings both broke at the bottom of the wing the taller part, reprinting the wings at 50% speed this time hopefully they don't mess up I also am using supports this time

Jes S

adorable!!! its in print line waiting for a free printer!!

Dan

Please don't use supports, just make sure you have good adhesion. Supports will do more harm than good and will hinder functionality. And I will work on thickening that part up.

Dan

You can pop it with a blade if you are not using a flexible build plate. Also just a thin layer is needed of the glue.

Dan

Thank you. I'm going to work on thickening that part up.

Jason

This is amazing! Very neat print.

Randy Gifford

I do not see a link for the purple dissapearing glue you use. Please provide.

Randy Gifford

In the future, when you are bundling up all the files into a single zip file, would it be possible for you to include a text file in the allfiles.zip that contains your print settings recommendations?

Erin O

Thank you! I was putting it in a box to wrap for a friend and it popped off when I went to remove the wings. Luckily I printed two, ha. I will reprint the updated file and give him back ups. :)

Louis Gattone

That would be ideal and appreciated. Then we know if the normal faster print settings on the Bambus which can cause some issues actually work or if we need to slow it down.

Louis Gattone

I wish we could share images as this thing came out amazing. Thanks for the great work

Dan

Me too! I'm not sure why they can't make it a feature of this website. But, you can always tag me on social @flexifactory. I would love to see what you printed. Also, you can join the Discord server and there is a section to share your photos there!

Dan

Thank you for the suggestion! I do put my print settings in each of the posts as a reminder. For the bambu machines, and really all of my machines, I run the same settings. I use the general settings in the slicer and just change the quality of the print to 0.12, three walls and 15% infill. I also use a general pla setting 100% of the time. I try to keep it very simple for testing. I try to keep everything consistent so I can design around those parameters. That way, if somebody makes a change in temperature or other machine settings, that would really be their personal choice in terms of speeding it up or changing the quality of the print.

KA Cruise

Wife said "Holy crap, that's amazing!" Great work Dan!

Eugene Rodriguez

This is by far my favorite😍😍 dragon design . Have a Merry Christmas !!

Brewzr 3D Printing

I love using purple glue, it saves a lot of prints. I always use a thin scotty peeler to remove models off the print plate, very gently. It helps clean off tiny pieces and better to remove more delicate prints.

Brewzr 3D Printing

I print so many dragons and this one was such a clean, easy print. I love it. I usually hate printing wings too and these came out great, with no issues. Great Design!

Venomuz13

Just finished printing mine today. It looks amazing. Love it

Railroad Model Engineering

All the other patreons I support have an official Facebook group where members share their makes, ask questions, the designers will make announcements there too. Printed mine on my Bambu with white and a 3-color coextruded red/blue/green silk filament from Eryone and it came out killer. Blue on one side of the wings and red on the other with the white highlights.

Dan

All the files are above in the post. If you cannot see them, you may need to use a desktop version of patreon. Some phones don't display them correctly.

Dan

Gotcha. I have a Facebook page, but a user group sounds like a great idea!

Chris Lutz

Nice cool design. My P1s just finished a 3 color 22hour print at 100%. It looks awesome.!

Lee Williams

It will not let me download.

Dan

Try desktop version of patreon? Files are in the post above.

Jeffrey J Libman

The bambu textured plate on my p1s has worked almost flawlessly and no glue. Only adhesion hiccup and I cleaned it and leveled it and that was that. Printed entire dragon in the fast change rainbow; did the 2 wings in one plate so they would have about the same gradient. Printed the fire with silk red gold and printed it on ludicrous speed... no glue

Kevin

love the design also should do a mech egg for it and be awesome if the spikes would lock in place to keep the head and neck up better. I can get it to stay but dosent take much for it to fall.

scamden2002

Awesome work Flex Factory do we need a invite to your discord. also where do i get the updated versions of the beefier dragon parts, I'm having trouble with breakage on the wings.

Dan

Did you resolve this?

Dan

I am sorry to hear that. The spikes do lock on the neck and I reworked them to easily hold up the head in all of my test prints.

Dan

I replaced the files when I did the update...so you can get them above. Also, connect discord through your settings app here on the bottom left when you are logged in. You will be redirected and a Patreon bot assigned.

Karyl

Dan, you and your team NEVER cease to amaze me!! This is truly amazing!!

Lee Williams

No. It tells me error code 902 attachment not found 404

1 Layer at a time

try to print if out today on x1 and fail i"ll try one more time

Jyxla Creations

I printed this in a matte brown and silky metallic from Bambu Lab, and it looks amazing! It's got a real steam-punk vibe to it. I love this model!

Mac Kloberg

Hello Dan, this model is an entirely new level of detail, creativity on your part and everyone I showed this to so far, was completely blown away. Steam Punk style is still big and this is right there, folks are loving it. Two suggestions I would make: - The arms for the wings are still too flimsy (not only looking but also breaking easily, even when an adult plays with it). Scale them up a little more and add crossing strut deco to them (Eiffel tower style), just to get some material on there (or make them struts all together, that would look cool) - I think that fire part doesn't match the rest of the level of quality. It looks like you did that in a hurry, just to get it out there - sorry that's just my honest opinion :-) I didn't even print it and chose to kept its mouth shut, or just a little bit open before revealing that giant canon like receptacle (way too big imho). Can you think about something more realistic for the fire piece, please? Thanks, Mac.

Carla Schrum

I have printed 4 of these all on different printers and all of the wings broke, every single one of them. I am using 20 infill on 2 of them and 30 on the other 2 and all have broke wings. Is there anyway you can fix this maybe make the long part that attaches shorter it is a awesome dragon but useless if the wings keep breaking.

Dan

Did you update the file to the one that is attached here? I did change it out from the original and reinforced the wings.

Erich Burch

Is the rework new or was it done before the original post? I've had the same issue but have not printed another since you updated the post the other day.

Erich Burch

Any chance you may be working on a wingless version? I love the wings but for some reason my printer hates printing them.

Amber Bridges

Attempted to print the one plate version without any adjustments besides wall loops up from 2 to 3, and slicing in latest updated Bambu slicer has an error that "it has floating regions" Advises re-orient or enable supports

Dan

The 3mf file or STL uploaded in thr slicer is just a file. The settings do not transfer. So you will need to adjust to your preferences. I use three walls, 15% infill and .12 layer height. I also use General Pla. And I have those saved in my slicer for any project. The slicers will often throw codes about adding supports or floating regions, because I test the limits of the overhangs. You do not ever need to enable supports and there are no floating regions. I also keep the slicer updated and test them with new releases.

Dan

Yes, there is a wingless version above. I added that on Christmas Day I believe or maybe it was Christmas Eve. But it is in the files.

Dan

Thank you for your feedback. I do want to speak to the quality and rushing of the Wings. I started with them first and worked on them for weeks. I will continue to try to improve my winged models of course:-) but I am tasked with the challenge of how the printer functions, and making them sturdy enough without being heavy or incredibly lengthy in print time. With the beefier wings, I did make the connector thicker and hoping this would help. But it's always a balance of design, and the mechanics to print effectively and efficiently. Printing them in a different orientation or with supports would cause its own set of issues, and I really wanted these to be more Plug and Play. I will say that I have about 150 of these guys and have only broken two wings. And it wasn't actually me that broke them but my wife pulling them from the plate . I watched her do it so I could see how other people might remove them and try to circumvent the issue. Again, I intend to work on better ways of making wings, because they are really fun in the design. And in terms of the fire, I have received several suggestions about how to make it more realistic. I had a shorter version initially and opted for the longer version in the release. It would have to print sideways and take a bit longer, but I am noodling how to improve the look.

Dan

Make sure you have great adhesion. It shouldn't fail on an X1 unless the settings are off or it loses adhesion. I find those to be great machines!

Dan

I have only done the One update on the date above, and switched out the files. However, I only changed the wings and added the wingless version. Everything else is the same. With the Imperial Dragon, those really locked in place, and that was causing people to push too hard and break them. So I used a different kind of interlocking feature for this one. So you should just be able to pull the head back and then forward again to interlock. I have a gif coming out today and I will add it here so everyone can see how I set it up:-)

Erich Burch

oh sweat! I missed that I guess. BTW, your work is amazing with these dragons. There are only a few really good flexi dragon creators, and you are at the top of that list for me. I know it's not your main thing, but the ones you have are my best sellers. Thank you for sharing your creativity with all of us.

Carla Schrum

this is the link I downloaded from yes and still breaking they are way to tall

Carla Schrum

I do see a wingless will try that but wings would of been nice that worked

CWP 3D

Seems to have printed well, Wings are pretty weak in silk filaments, had one break at the top before the joint just popping the wing into the socket. Other than that the flame would look a lot better if it was shorter or had the flames propagate closer to the hole it is placed in. Just looks kind of odd

Mayra Vazquez

The same happened to me with the silk filament. I decided to print another one without wings for the kids and decided not to use the flames, I agree it looks somewhat odd. Other than that, it is an awesome dragon.

Karyl

BTW, clever lighting!

Amber Bridges

I gave it a try as is like you said and it printed successfully! Looks amazing!

Andrew Yacomen

would be awesome to get the eyes separate to the main model as an option. that way can print eyes separately and attach!

Chantal

Would love it if we could get a dragon head for a keychain just like the T-Rex and triceratop.

Spark876

what is a printmill version?

Dan

It's a special type of printer.

Jason

I printed two of these and I broke the wings on both. I will try the new one thanks!

Dr. J B

My wing fell over 😫 20 hour print and it fell over at the end.

Dan

The wing can be printed separately too. I am so sorry to hear that.

Gilbert Hernandez

these things are looking great!!! I've printed several and people love them.

J K

Any way we can get different wings? Even with 80% infill on colored filament the join attachments are snapping. I’m having to refund alot of customers. The “stick” part of the wing is very fragile.

MilneCreates

I am reprinting wings, also had one snap and it was the new file. :(

goldwolfnhn

anyone else having problems with the jaw hinge breaking when trying to put the upper and lower together, I've even slightly enlarged the upper part, but it still breaks the hinge part on the lower jaw.

3D Print Pro Studio

Probably your printer's tolerance. What printer do you have?

goldwolfnhn

an ender 3 s1 pro and a cr10 smart that I've tried printing it on.

3D Print Pro Studio

Crealitys don't have very good tolerance. Try scaling the head a little more and see if it fits. Also, check to make sure there is no layer shift on the body or head. Even very minor layer shift can cause it not to fit. Are the ball joints for the wings working?

Dan

Great advice. Discord troubleshooting is a great way to get questions answered as well. And pics can be added there to. I redesigned the head on that one to have a better tolerance across all machines...assuming it prints correctly.

goldwolfnhn

I have actually removed the lower part of the head from the main body so was able to print just the upper and lower parts of the head and at 100.1% and 100.25% the upper fit on the lower fine with no problems, but when I printed the whole dragon with the resized upper head the hinge broke, everything else is fine just the jaw hinge breaking, and I have tried using the troubleshooting on the discord over a month ago concerning printing flexi's on my cr-m4 were the joints keep failing and no response of any kind there.

Mark

can anyone tell me how long the 100% winged mech is ? TIA

SneakySmurf

Dan, I just had to check in and say that this is an absolutely fantastic model! I've printed every color I have and man I can't wait till the season starts. Such amazing detail. Magnificent job! Thank you for putting out such great models as always. :)

IOX Creative 3D Printing

If I may ask, have you thought of doing a ball joint dragon yet? if this is possible, we would be able to print one section at a time full bed size and have them snap together after, this would be a life size 2 meter long 250mm high dragon or longer if you keep snapping body parts in between the legs

Chris

Love the dragon, but after 1st print the legs did not want to move and trying to free them they broke off. will try with other settings

John Siddley

I'm currently 22 hours into printing this, not long to wait now, 9 hours to go!

Dan

That is not a problem the print should have. Happy to help troubleshoot if you would like to send pics to flexifactory@gmail.com

James Duryea

The wingless version was greatly appreciated. People have been asking for dragons every month at my booth, and now they don't have to ask any more.

Andrew Kilpatrick

If you continue to have this problem, simply take a hair dryer to the joint to soften it up just a bit and that will allow it to expand enough to slip on easily.

ashley Bravo

Having issues getting mine to stand on it's on. Suggestions?

Dan

The neck has an s shape. So if you hold it by the head and swoop it back, then adjust the head it should stand up.

Antonia Hernandez

If we scale down you think will encounter problems?

pcwzrd13

I'm having the same issue. It printed great but for the life of me I can't get it to stand up. I have no issue with the regular dragon but this one is stubborn. lol Any chance you might be able to make some adjustments to make it easier?

Randy clayton

Everytime I try to print this on my A1 mini it messes up when printing the head and wings. Any suggestions?

Dan

Great adhesion. I also print on a mini and the textured plate is not my favorite. Consider a polymer based glue like magigoo. Really clean plate

Randy clayton

Thanks for replying!! I ended up using some disappearing purple glue stick and so far its holding up. Keeping my fingers crossed!! Also i went with the single color profile instead of the multi color download.

Sebastian

Niesamowity projekt. 💪
