Update: 1_23_2024 - If you were one of the folks that had an issue with the head fitting too loosely, here is a new version that is a "hair" tighter :).................................................................................................Hey Everyone!

My latest model is here!

I have been noodling this character for a couple of months. Toucan Beaks have beautiful gradient colors, and I wanted to be able to print the beak separately in order to utilize multi colored filaments. And it really needed to open and close.

By design, It is much harder to get the beaks out again (hopefully you won't need to 😉)

I hope you like, and happy printing  -Dan

Print Settings and Info:- 15%infill, 3 walls, no supports, .16 layer height for 3mf and .12 layer height for stl.- Wings, head, and beak have pop-in feature for swapping out different colors and making this truly customizable!- To assemble the Beak... Start with the bottom first.  Simply set one side in the divot and push the other side in place. The inset of the mouth will guide it right in. There is an inset for the Top beak too. Just repeat the process.- 100% Hand Painted Blue Eyed Toucan (stl): Body and Head - Cookiecad Mint Chip,  Wings - Cookiecad Sunrise , Beak with layer color change on the end is also Cookiecad Sunrise, and Bambulab PLA Matte Yellow- 115% Green Eyed Toucan (3mf): Body - OVV3D Silk Red-Blue-Green, Wings, Feet : Cookiecad Sunrise, Beak -  Geetech Rainbow and Stronghero Mirror Chrome

¡¡Absolutamente maravilloso!!

Colleen Nordheim

I have been waiting for a flexy Toucan!! Thank you!!

Holli

This is one of my favorites so far! We have a rose breasted cockatoo who will love this, from a distance lol

Marti Reusch

Have you tested at smaller scale? I love when things are mini!

LC

Amazing! 🤩

Dan

Yep. Always test to 50 to make sure they function ... but 75 is my small size suggestion with the small parts.

Jasmine Julian

So awesome!! We have a red crested Amazon pet in the house so glad to see a feathered creature model!! 😍

Kelley G

wow amazing work !!!

Mikateri

Ok, this is absolutely gorgeous

Jason

Now im hungry for fruit loops...

Chris Lutz

You have really outdone yourself on this one. The detail is amazing!!! Great work!!

Tanya Denyer

Wow can't wait for these to finish printing these are amazing

Daniel Orr

I love this so much!! We were in Costa Rica back in October and had toucans flying all around the place we were staying one morning. I’ve been wanting something like this!!

Herb Veitenhans

I really like this. The ability to mix and match is nice. Question in the head though, scaled down to 75% it pops on and off really easy. Is there a way to make it a bit tighter?

Marti Reusch

Also having this issue, even at 100%

Marti Reusch

At 75% the head doesn't seem to stay on at all and at 100% it's better but still pops right off. I've double checked that everything was scaled correctly and do see one other person mentioned this. This would be fine to just have sitting on a desk but any time I pick them up the heads pop right off. I think I could easily fix it by making the head about 2% smaller but would love an update if others are also finding this to be an issue. Thanks Dan! I've printed several already and loving the possibilities here.

Dan

Thanks for the feedback. I will work on a tighter version.

Dan

Thanks for the feedback. I will work on a tighter version.

Nic Wilson

I have had no issue with this both on a Bambu and on an Ender6, fitment is fine.

Marti Reusch

X1C, A1 and A1 Mini, adjusted settings, issue persists.

Jason

Mine come off kinda easy also. They stay on and would work but could be tighter. Using bambu p1s

Eric Dockery

Printed at 50% and everything works great

Railroad Model Engineering

Just a tip here for the Bambu users here, change the neck to the same color as the primary beak and you'll print about 40 minutes faster.

Railroad Model Engineering

Really? What part of CR? Because we didn't see any last time but will be there in a couple weeks and would like to.

Kevin Ritchie

Looks great but after a very long print, both of my wing hubs broke - so gonna have to glue!

Dan

Added a new version above.

Dan

I am so sorry to hear that! these are similar to the owl and very strong on the connector. Was there a layer shift or some other printing issue?

Kevin Ritchie

No layer shift or anything like that. I suspect it was the filament that I’m using. The color is galaxy chameleon. It’s made by stronghero and while it looks great. It does seem to be a bit brittle.

Pat Caton

My wings and beak just came off the printer this morning! My Toucan looks sooooo cute and the wings popped in nicely (I usually have trouble with the ball/joint pieces)!!

Figterk

FYI, it appears that the 2 beak pieces as well as the 2 wings are the wrong scale in the Prusa painted project. I compared the sizes to the Bambu project and those parts are larger and wont fit in the Prusa version.

Dan

Oh goodness. Taking a look now! Thank you for letting me know. I think when I made the updated head and body to snap better, it scaled wrong for Prusa 3MF :( Fixing and reposting to all platforms.

Alison Mackel

they are probably done per size of the machines i would just print all of one project on the same brand of machine for ease

Figterk

I did, but the beak didn't fit in the head and the wings didn't fit in the body.

Dan

It's all fixed. I don't have a prusa multi-color machine, but like to add the 3mf for that purpose. I do test out the stls on all my machine brands using different slicers. Not sure what happened with the 3mf prusa file, but it looks to be (used to be, now fixed) about 120% on the wings and beak. I really apologize for that. Since so few people use multicolor prusa, it took awhile to get noticed.

Dan

Great adhesion is needed. Clean plate helps, I us ea cool plate because I personally have more issues with textured pei. But I also use a thin layer of purple disappearing glue every time, it helps alot. I use magigoo for my textured pei plates, but have to keep those plates very clean. And I never touch the plates with my hands due to oil.

Figterk

No problem. I have enjoyed printing these on my XL recently. This was the only problem I have noticed as of yet.

Paige

Has anyone had issues with printing the top of the beak? I’m using a Bambu P1S, printing at standard speed and .16 height. It’s almost like it’s so light, it isnt staying on the build plate in a stationary position. The first time, it had like an hour left to print, and now the second time, it printed like a quarter of the way and when I looked, it was all the way over on the side of my build plate and filament was everywhere lol. Any ideas?! Thanks in advance! Love this design!

michael alfaro

try adding a brim to it? i have found when using a brim if i can remove the print off the build plate as soon as it's down while it's still warm, the brim peels right off. since there isn't a lot of detail even if it cools it should come off relatively easy :)

Jill Martin

Love this! I am loving all your winged animal files. Just did the Pegasus last night!

Paige

I ended up seeing the post above mine about the glue and have had luck with that! I will keep the brim idea in mind for future reference if all else fails! Thank you!

Janet Albia

I have printed it so perfectly without error, but the parts are impossible to fit in

Dan

could you send a pic of the beak and head to flexifactory@gmail.com? They should pop in one side then the other, top beak first works best. It's a tight fit, but overextrusion could make it difficult. Sometimes that is hard to see. Or a number other than zero on horizontal expansion happens sometimes by accident.

Lisa Meine

I had a perfect outcome with my printing, thank you!

Dan

I test to 50% for functionality, but the parts will be small. I suggest to use high quality settings.

Looking back, I have been a member for over a year, isn't this a January file? I am confused and can't find the files either
