Hi everyone!!

For this month's drawing exercise, we will create a little animal study spread in our sketchbook! The goal of this exercise is to study one animal from different angles and in different poses. By drawing the same animal multiple times, you will start to understand its shapes, proportions, and how to simplify it.

For my study spread, I chose a little robin in different poses.

1. Choose your references

If you'd like to draw a Robin as well, you can find the references I used in the attachment down below. You can also choose another animal and find your own references if you prefer. Search for the same animal in different poses.

Tip: Don’t pick an animal that is too detailed at first. Simpler ones make the exercise easier and more fun!

2. Practice using multiple references ✏️

Use your reference photos to fill one sketchbook page with small sketches of your chosen animal. Try drawing it from different angles and in different poses. Don't worry about creating finished drawings, these are simply little studies to help you understand the animal better.

Helpful tips:

Squint your eyes to reduce details

Make your references as small as possible, so you won't see all the tiny details

Keep your illustrations small. Small drawings are quicker and less intimidating

Sharing

As always, I’d love to see your results! Post your sketches in our group chat or in the comments below. I can’t wait to see what you create! 🤗

Happy drawing!

Celyn 🌸
