Anybody in the mood for Italian now?

That look of withering disappointment Daniels gives McNulty... It's like I feel myself shrinking when I see that. Real Dad energy, there.

Hell yeah! Can now say, I'd really recommend watching Thomas Flight's videos on The Wire, especially the one about how every season matters - in short, season one introduces the core story of the war on drugs and how the police ultimately fails it, and each season following takes a rounded look at another aspect of society and how they also fail it (economics/poverty > politics > education > the media). There's so much additional reading/watching you could do on this show it's incredible. Also re: Herc/Levy's interaction at the end - Levy didn't know anything about Herc taking the number, but Herc was the one who suggested to him it sounded like a wiretap (which Levy would know at that stage would need to have been illegal) and therefore gave him the leverage to make the deal he did to keep Marlo (and potentially himself too) out of prison.

Anybody else getting a sudden craving for some gabagool?

I can’t watch this until tomorrow, but I am STOKED! Duquan becoming the new Bubbles and Michael becoming the new Omar breaks my heart. Meanwhile Randy is in such a messed up situation while Namond got out. This entire show is amazing, but those four kids are what I’ll remember the most.

Marlo's fate is the embodiment of "One man's trash is another man's treasure." He ended up being handed Stringer's dream; alive, out of jail, and forced out of the game and into legitimate business. For Stringer, it was a heaven he died trying to reach, but for Marlo, this is hell. All he wanted was to be the man on the streets.

That final Marlo scene is one of my favorites ever but shit there are a lot in this series. Seeing bubbles come up to eat with his sister and niece makes me shed a tear every time

they’re ain’t no other like it, just wait til you watch it again

Great show and it was so awesome to rewatch it with you! One last plea to check out The Shield lol, it is if Breaking Bad and The Wire had a baby. Looking forward to The Sopranos and all that you do!

Without rambling, I'll just say that the "everything comes full circle" type of ending has always been my favourite. Nothing ever really ends.

This show is a journey to watch. It challenges your understanding of certain stereotypical views of life and politics using a gritty crime drama centered on Baltimore. That's what the Wire is to me, not to mention all the memorable characters, memes, popular sayings it created. In fact there is a family guy joke that "Breaking bad is the best show I've ever seen. Except maybe the Wire." I finally understand that joke isn't actually a joke. It really is.

It's been a joy to re-watch, discuss, and be along for the ride of watching this show I've with you, James. And everyone else in the comments too! I'm genuinely so happy that you found so much enjoyment and value with what The Wire brings to the table. I love, as you said, that the show is always honest with its depictions and doesn't try to craft a narrative that steers you on how to feel. It's probably the biggest reason why I always seek out different reactions to it, because there are so many different takeaways to be had depending on each person's unique perspectives. I believe, deeply and truly, that engaging in seeking out differing opinions, outlooks, and ideas and trying to understand them whether you agree or not is the key to appreciating your fellow man and the world at large. Never be content in your current level of knowledge and understanding. Always find ways to learn new things, ways to look at something from a different angle, and develop the skill of empathy so you can understand where other people are coming from. If everyone could do this - and they could if they try - then the world would be a much better place for it. Sorry to be too sentimental or preachy in my comment, but I just want to air out why this show means so much to me and I hold it in such high regard. So thanks again, James, for watching the show and sharing your own perspective and I look forward to what you have to say in your Wire characters video, as well as your Sopranos reactions!

In a very interesting way, Omar won the war with Marlo. Unlike Stringer who wanted to walk away with that big bag, Marlo was not about money. Marlo was about his reputation, his name ringing out, control and fear. That is what kept him going. A rare case where the criminal is motivated by the immaterial things. And Omar took that away from him. Omar has been shown time and again to be like the greek myths he looked up to as a kid. Everyone knows him, fears him and talks about him. And after he got killed by a nobody, we hear more and more out there rumors about Omar. How he died. They keep the legend going. Meanwhile Marlo is either already forgotten, or some know that he never stepped up to Omar. The average TV viewer would expect Omar to have gone after Chris, Snoop and Marlo and gotten his bloody revenge. But this season we saw Omar at his weakest. Blinded by rage like never before, taking no prisoners, leaving all morals behind. And that got him in the end. But even tho he did not get physical revenge, he got the metaphysical revenge. Omar is a legend that lives on in the city for years to come. Meanwhile what becomes of Marlo? He ironically got Stringers dream, but I bet he would be happier if he got shot instead. He is stuck with money he doesn’t care for, being surrounded by vultures who want something from him, all the while his reputation is no more, and the proverbial sword of Damocles is hanging over his head in the form of an investigation, that will reopen the second he makes a move. And his last scene shows that he can’t go 15 minutes without starting trouble. Marlo is in a purgatory. A great white shark in a small aquarium, where it can’t swim freely or hunt. So in the end, who won? I’d say Omar. He has the legend, the legacy and the last laugh.

I know you probably won’t get to it but seriously. Carnivale is such an amazing show back from the HBO golden days (along with Sopranos, Rome, the wire and Deadwood) filmmaking wise it is masterfully done! Very David Lynch inspired. But Seriously you need to hit all the Golden era HBO shows.

I knows it’s been months now since you finished this but I just have to thank you for the reaction to this great show, James. It was great watching it with ye and listening to your thoughts.
