The way I jumped out of my seat seeing this notification

Nick Huber

What a wonderful surprise. I just started rewatching this show

Night King01

I had to do a double take when I saw this notification. the bangers keep coming.

Night King01

I had to skip to the end because I knew the season episode count on max would be intimidating. The show had a weird release schedule, which is why season 2 only has about 20 episodes. The pilot is technically on leather wings but this was released about a week before to promote the show. Prime Video has a different ordering, I guess, going by the old DVD releases, but it doesn't matter too much. It was common with animated shows back in the day. A lot of episodes that were produced first came out after episodes that were done later. So if there is a feeling that some episodes vary in quality and tone, it's probably because they're earlier episodes where they were still trying to find their vibe, and Alan Burnett didn't have as much power as a producer. Once everything got rolling, with him having the studio trust the team, we got the darker, more character-driven episodes that the show is known for, like Two-Face, Feat of Clay, and Heart of Ice. Sorry for the long post.

Night King01

This isn't even the best animation the show has to offer. Wait until you see the feat of clay and Two-Face.

Yo! Lets gooooooo!

Nick Huber

The style of this show is so cool, the architecture, vehicles, and outfits are very Art deco and roaring 20s mixed with heavy hard boiled noir. It's like if the Great Gatsby and the Maltese falcon had a baby with some Metropolis influences too

The title cards in this show are real art. Some of them could be framed.

RICHARD

Definitely in the running for best animated series of all time. There is nothing bad you can really say about it.

Hanna

Oh sweet I didn't know you were gonna watch this. Lovvved as a kid haven't watched since- My favorite joker is Mark Hamill! Also this was where Harley Quinn was created and first appearance! + Lovee Catwoman. So happy to rewatch with you!

No shit, J!? (I jumped outta my seat too, Ben.) Weird coincidences, my wife is running some Con panels with Paul Dini in a couple weeks. So hyped.

kbobravo

James, you have yet to disappoint me with a show you've picked. I am so excited for this!

kbobravo

I do hope you get back to What We Do in the Shadows at some point too

Part of the reason the style of the show is unique and looks so cool is the dark deco aesthetic created for the show. Traditionally, white paper was used to draw off of, but BTAS used black paper. Backgrounds would be painted on black paper and anything that was black in the show was left unpainted.

Jon Bradley

Most of the darker backdrop of the setting happened because they did the artwork of the series on a black background to start with

Sonia Deepak

Oh I hope you continue with this! To answer your questions: - The show premiered in 1997 and had 4 seasons - The signature style of city was coined as "dark deco", which was a blend of film noirs lighting and clothes with art deco architectures. It was so cool because you could have zeppelins in the same episodes as a computer. Great great episode I'd rec is : Heart of Ice If you're looking for other pilots, I highly recommend: - Interview with the Vampire (the TV show) - Deadwood - HBO's Rome

Hanna

Makes me think back to childhood- other animated shows- Gargoyles soo loved & Darkwing Duck - good times~LOL

SimplySteph215
